Will I be able to receive SMS whilst overseas? (Planning to go abroad during December but still need access to SMS to receive OTPs etc.)

        • +4

          No :(

        • +1

i remember only Telstra does it. with active prepaid and no balance required

          • @hopper: Almost any telecom operator in India allows free incoming sms when you’re abroad and your plan/card is active. Is it common in other countries too? It is quite useful for receiving OTP etc.

        • You can receive SMS with Catch Connect whilst overseas.

Just need to add $5 Catch Extras credit and turn off voicemail if you don't want to charged for voicemail deposit.

          $15 for 90 days.

They have started now as an additional package

    • ^ or alternatively wish Lebara starts giving more data in their plans.

Time to port out from Vaya I think, this is good value.

    • -2

Vaya is optus, kogan use voda. For me, optus gives a better signal almost everywhere…

      • +1

Depends on where you live and use your phone as to whether this matters. I live in Melbourne and 99% of the time use my phone in and around Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. I have incredible coverage with Vodafone in all those places.

        • +3

I'm on a Telstra MVNO because I live in a blackspot for Vodafone and Optus, but I recently bought one of the 98c 30GB Kogan startup packs so I could use it while I was on holidays in Tasmania. I barely used it. The only times that I had any Vodafone reception was when I was staying at places that already had wifi available. I'll be amazed if I managed to use more than a couple of hundred mb's.

          • +1

@macrocephalic: Only place I've used Voda network in TAS was in Hobart and that was perfectly fine for coverage.

Of course if you get out of major populated areas you won't get the coverage of Telstra, but that's why it's more expensive. I am not paying extra to cover the added costs of regional towers when I don't use them.

If you need coverage outside cap city areas, Tel$tra is probably your best bet, which goes without saying.

For me, I rarely travel outside capital cities, so I am very happy with coverage.

          • @macrocephalic: what phone do you have? and where in Tasmania?

      • +4

Depends where you are. In most of sydney Voda has Optus well covered.

        • +2

Voda is better in Sydney's North Shore + T1 Northern Line.

      • I've always said the same thing (from first-hand experience travelling out of the cities and my black zoned house), but after trying Kogan/Vodafone the last few days in different areas of the CBD I can see why people that rarely go bush are giving up on Optus.

Just a shame all my backup phones accumulated over the years lack the required Voda band.

      • In my garage in Brisbane I'm on Kogafone and get best reception in the house.

I think that's just a fluke though, based on the way the signals bounce of garage door or something, the same way an antenna might only work at a particular angle.

Having said that, whilst I'm using the best phone I've ever had, Kogafone gives me the best data speeds I've ever had outside of 100/40 FttP NBN.

  • Seems to be a bug in the site. After you add it to cart and go to checkout, it says there are no items in your cart?

  • It comes up at $99.90 for me

    • +3

That's weird, it's showing as $14.90 at the top of here, looks like the promo might be glitching a bit.

      • Now it's $14.90 :)

  • -1

bummer, my current contract end date is 23rd Nov with Telstra and this voucher will expire on 21st Nov.

Looks like very good deal but no use for me at this stage.

    • +15

2 days shouldnt really matter if you are saving a lot.

      • I’m on a BYO $39 per month plan with Telstra, and don’t think Telstra will like me to leave them before contract last day 23rd Nov.

TBH I would love to as it will save me heaps with extra data too.

        • Don't you anyway pay a month in advance? You could perhaps ask them to transfer you to Prepaid first and then port.

        • +4

Check your Telstra plan through the app and it’ll tell you your early termination fee under My Plan. It drops each day. I ported out only yesterday from Telstra to Kogan two days before my Telstra 12 month contract ended and fee had dropped to $6.

I was on a BYO $49 per month plan so same boat as you.

Just do it a couple of days before your Telstra plans ends - you’ll be fine.

          • @Slave1: Thanks Slave1, i will check in app :)

    • why are people giving this a negative!! jesus. It's just a fact being shared. You are ultimately disagreeing with someone but from it people are offering opinions and advice that might help!!

  • Also shows as $99 for me

    • Now showing as $14.90. all good!

  • How long is this valid for once purchased?
I am thinking to use Catch Connect 90 days deal first and then use this one.
Might be too late to activate?

    • +2

      Expires 21st of November, sadly.

Kogan already have a Christmas logo on the website masthead. Wow.

    new customer only

i am going to port in my number from amaysim to kogan, but i still have 32gb plan with kogan at the same time, does this count as a new customer?

    • +2

Yes, new customer just means you can’t use it to recharge an existing Kogan Mobile service.

      • Does it need to be 30days out of kogan?

  • +2

Grabbed one this is great for extra data saves me having to activate a new one every month

  • -1

Can I use this one with my current Kogan number ?

    • +2

      It says new customers.

      • +1

shoot, I just joined them last week :(

  • +1

    Dumb question time.

Does a new service for an existing customer satisfy the "new customer only" restriction?

  • Hope they will have the 0.98 deal back.

    • +2

Discounts available on Kogan Mobile Prepaid SMALL, MEDIUM & LARGE 90 day plans purchased before 11:59pm AEDT 24/10/2018 unless sold out prior or extended.

  • Any cheap one month deals to get me through until november ?

  • +1

    Bought without thought!

    • +3

You are now officially a professional.

      • I am now thinking about how to use this deal LOL=)))

        Hi All,
I would like to ask about using two recent Kogan deals.
        1) $1.95 for a Kogan 30-Day 32GB Unlimited Mobile Plan: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/406925
        2) Kogan Mobile | $14.90 for 90 Days | 17GB Per 30 Days: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/406925

I'm using a dual sim phone with one Optus sim (my main number) which will be expired on 29/11/2018. After that, I am going to port my phone to Kogan.
What I intend to do is:
        - On 29/11, I will port my number to Kogan, using the 2nd deal ($14.90 for 90 Days)
        - After 3 months (29/02/2019), I will chose a basic plan (not sure, but minimum data) then I can use the 1st deal as a second sim.

I appreciate if anyone can give any advise for my plan :D

        • +3

You did not notice that the voucher will expire.

        • +3

          From the description -

          Voucher expires November 21 2018.

So you need to port on Nov 21st, not Nov 29th, that's too late.

          • +2

@WatchNerd: Thanks a lot mates Neoika and WatchNerd :D

  • Hi folks. I need a new sim and number for my father visiting me in Australia in November. Can I buy this sim now and activate it when he comes? 21st November?

    • +2

Yes, just activate before the expiry date

      • Which is 21st of November right?

        • It's valid for 90 days. Will he be around longer than that?

          • @cheapbloke: Yeah he is coming for 3 months. Mid November till mid Feb

  • +3

A few of us here are hanging for their 40+% off 365day plans… come on Kogan!!!!

  • decent deal woth kogan these days. not bad

  • -6

Waiting for kogan mobile to give us existing users some deals for once…

  • -5

Hey Kogan, if you're reading this thread, what about some incentive for EXISTING customers to stay with you. There's no point getting new customers when you shaft your existing ones with crappy plans that don't compare to the new deals.

    • +1

to be fair to kogan they do raise data allowance often for new and existing customers, but yes my plan is due for renewal around then and I would love to get this deal, I guess it depends if you can be bothered porting out and back in

    • -1

Kogan Plans itself is a deal compared the many of the other service providers

  • Do vouchers stack? Or does applying the first voucher (therefore turning you into an "existing customer") prevent you from activating additional vouchers (from this deal).

  • +2

Currently on kogan plan, anybody tried to port out and then port in back successfully the same number to koogan successfully within a week ?

    • +1

Comments on past Kogan mobile deals have said that you need to port out for 1 month in order to be considered a new customer.

  • This is incredibly good value.

  • +1

And here i was about to sign up for 10gb $15 a month with TPG like a sucker…thanks OP!

  • +1

Ah, price will reset to RRP $99.90 after initial three months, right??

  • -1

No love for existing customers again.

  • So I'm at the end of my Telstra contract.. I can do this for a month and then Port back in using the jb hifi deal yea?

    • +1

      Yes

  • what happen after 90 days? I couldn't find anywhere how much is it to recharge on kogan website

    • +1

Recharge rates are pretty normal. That's the catch. When you activate the service, kogan will ask for your credit card details . you will be charged $1 and then refunded immediately.

Its just a way for them to grab your card details so they could set you up for automatic recharge when your coupon expires.

  • +1

    $4.90 / 32gb / 30 days is still a better deal

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

    • Yeah but once you're a customer you can't take advantage of any more new customer deals, so this works out better for people who want to port over their main number and stay for 90 days instead of only 30.

      • no good for existing customers who wants to recharge and extend their plans … Com'on Kogan, we all want to stay with you, please treat every existing customers with "LOVE" !!!

        • Correct, it's for new customers only. So you're best option is to port out for 90 days with the Catch Connect deal in the description, it's only $10.00 after cashback.

  • -3

When is the last day for you to activate this deal by?

  • I'm about a week into their 32gb 1 month offer for 98c posted here recently, can i still purchase this now and towards the end of the month use this voucher?

    • +1

From previous comments, you need a interval of minimum 31 days to be a new customer with Kogan Mobile(to take up any new customer offers).

      • Okay thanks mate.

  • Hey, im looking to port my number in from another carrier but my contract doesn't expire until mid-November. Now does anyone know if i order a sim from Kogan, will they start the porting process straight away? Or when i choose to activate the sim closer to my contract expiry date?
