HP EX920 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD $352 AUD Delivered @ Newegg

60

I was looking for a decent 1TB NVME drive to have as a new boot drive, and found this. Reviews show it's similar to performance to the Samsung 970 EVO while being almost $150 cheaper (compared to Amazon AUS).

  • $352.42 Including Tax

    • Whoops, forgot they slap on GST during checkout. Updated the title, thanks!

  • considering GST, the 970 evo for $400 odd seems a better bet from ebay futu

$319 would've been a mega deal if it was inclusive of GST

    • 970 Evo is actually $407 on Futu

But yeah I agree at $350 this HP isn't as good of a deal as I originally thought :(

      • So you guys won't consider it?

        • It's not a bad deal at all. Personally I'd spend the extra $50 but that doesn't negate that this is an OK deal.

  • I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro. Would it be able to use this NVMe SSD if I attached it to an AHCI adapter from eBay??

I got the 500 GB HP ex920 from NewEgg and also brought the new Western Digital Black NVME. The NewEgg deal was $216 with GST now its reduced to around $200!

The WD via Amazon was around $216 delivered but it is now also down to around $200.

The WD writes just short of 2400 and reads more than 3500.
The HP writes around 1700 and reads more than 3100.

The HP EX920 appears to be similar to Adata SX8200 and uses the same firmware (SVN105).

No SSD toolbox comes with the HP so firmware updates might be a problem. the Adata product does come with a toolbox that supports firmware updates.

To me the WD Black NVME SSD was far better for roughly the same money.

    FYI

Subjectively they are both super fast and you won't notice the difference for most work.

  • Looks like these guys are shaking up the nvme ssd game.

They are the first company to use a new controller that allows them to do 3500 sequential reads and 3100 sequential writes. Looks like Hp has dropped their price to compete. There are lots more (up to 20 or so) other vendors going to use the new controller, so hopefully, the prices will continue to drop. There are other better controllers in the wind and Samsung who have always had the performance high ground have some new technology which might change it all again.
