not worth your dime.i bought couple of years back for $25.
i have since then moved to BES 820 model.
my experience with catchoftheday has told me everytime that they mislead and sell junk stuff that is rotting in some warehouse.

got one of these for $30 on sale.. its terrible. buy a $200-$300 sunbeam, they are good.

    • +1

the comparison is unfair. $30 vs $200-300?

Is this one of those ones with no pump, just a boiler? They are junk.

  • I bought one of these for work.

It has made about 1000 coffees so far.

    i love it.

the little black plastic thing on the frothing arm broke. I rang breville and they sent a replacement one out in 2 days.

    I previously had a Saeco $400 machine.

the difference? the saeco had a removable water jug.

the result in the coffee they made? nothing.

  • Now this may sound ignorance but I'm not a coffee drinker (I'm used to instant coffee…)
What does this machine actually do? Can it make cappuccino from start to finish - all you need to do is place a mug on the machine and out come with coffee on the bottom and froth on top?

    • Try visiting a café some time and see how they make coffee.

      • Gee thanks for the great tips :)

      • No need to be a smartass. There are coffee machines that DO do that.

This machine will not do that.

You have to remove the group handle, put ground coffee (not instant) in the filter basket, tamp it down (squish it with a pushy thing), put it back on the machine, and turn it on with your cup underneath. from there, it will make terrible burnt coffee by itself as the boiler section heats up, and the built up steam pressure forces boiling water throughb your coffee grounds (good coffee is made with water at only about 80 degrees celcius, not boiling around 100).

for the milk, wait until it's finished making the coffee, then put the jug of milk under the steam wand on the side and turn the wand on. make sure the tip of the steam wand is under the surface of the milk to make sort of a whooshy sounds, not a complete burble sound, but not too deep either (although the plastic thingy might make it not matter so much how deep it is). after 20 seconds or so (depending on how powerful the steam is and how much milk you're using), you'll probably have some over-cooked hot frothy milk.

      • Ok that sounds way too much work for a coffee…I wanted a machine that can do all that by itself. All I want is something like the coffee machine at work (put the cup down, press a button for espresso/cappuccino), that's it. How much am I looking at for something really basic? (I'm not a coffee lover at all)

        • Automatic machines start at around 800

        • $800…a bit too much in my opinion…maybe I should stick to the instant stuff then…. :)

$15 for a kettle and $10 for a big jar of Nescafé.

For non-instant, filter coffee makers are cheap, and less hassle than espresso. For some reason they seem to be unfashionable in Australia, but are very popular in the US and parts of Europe.

  • I got one of these free with my VISA card a while back. It sits in a box. Not a good machine at all. Not worth the $59.80 + $5.95 in my opinioin, you'll end up buying it, for it to clog up your cupboards in a couple weeks.
