  • I've got an 8700k in my drawer waiting for a good deal on RAM and a motherboard.
    This is tempting!

Why do you say to wait?

    • Prices may slide further down, although not by much as Samsung is going to artificially restrict supply to keep the prices high.

Samsung is not the only manufacturer though. SK Hynix and Micron are also in the same industry but if they also get on board with Samsung there's a chance that memory prices go up again.

      • Hmm it's tricky to know what to do then.
I'm not in a rush cause my current PC works, butttt I want to use my new i7.

        • Even if the prices drop it will probably be maximum $30-40 so IMO it's not really worth the wait.
Also if you don't need 3000MHz then you can always get a cheaper kit with less MHz (Intel chips don't rely as much on memory speed).
Even if you do get a slower kit, it's not hard to overclock to 3000. I'm using a 2400 kit overclocking to 3000 with latency lowered to 15, you'd need a motherboard that supports overclocking if you wanna do the same.

@[Deactivated]: I remember Toms Hardware doing a performance comparison on different ram speeds. The conclusion was that there is pretty much no noticeable performance difference at all between 1600/1866/2400/3000 ram. Obviously this is different for the new AMD chips.

        • The longer you wait, the less time you enjoy your new i7 before 9th gen comes out. That's worth something too.

  • What's the memory minimum speed required for ryzen 5 these days? Trying to save due to budget etc..

  • I only have the rzyen 3 and 8 gb of ram but need more ram, pretty easy to pop this in? Or should I get a CPU upgrade as well???
