Me too! However I take comfort in the fact that if I don't need it right now, gadgets can only get cheaper later.

    • You've got my vote. No need to rush for this.

Sorry, for the off-topic discussion, but its really funny how Voda prices their product

    General Deal:
HTC Legend $10 on a $29 Cap over 12 months
    http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/HTC-Legend-Silver

But for Mototing club members (RACQ, NRMA, RACV etc):
HTC Legend $20 on a $29 Cap over 12 months (minus 10% off each month)
    http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-htc-legend.aspx?company…

    Whats the point?

I rathar get a HTC Desire HD, currently $10 on a $29 Cap over 24 months (minus 10% off each month)
    http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-desirehd.aspx?company=A…

I guess its time to move to prepaid and buy mobiles from Unique Mobiles?

Better off getting a samsung captivate ;)

    • For $315?

      • +1

I have seen them go for that cheap on eBay! So yes. I ended up paying 370 for mine from american delivered brand new. No idea why they are so cheap (besides problems that can be fixed..) but awesome phone :)

The key is to check eBay regularly until a good deal pops up.. good idea if you work at a computer.

Can even get the Nexus One second hand from ebay for 250-300$ mint condition.

I personally am not a fan of this phone..imo outdated

        • I want the Samsung Captivate, but it's not selling on ebay.com.au at all right now. Anywhere else I can get one brand new cheap?

  • Hmm.. I am not sure if it is a good deal. After all it does not have a WVGA screen and it is a old model. DEFY is selling for 394 on BecexTech. It has so much more feature. And if you have the budget, get a dual core handset. i am not sure if old generation Android (single core) will have enough juice to run new apps coming out this year.

    • hey man, fair points.

I played with both the Legend and the Defy in a store, and the Defy is way laggier. im not sure, but i think the Legend would receive more android support.

"i am not sure if old generation Android (single core) will have enough juice to run new apps coming out this year."

Apps are designed to run off base-line hardware to maximise the number of handsets capable of running it. There's not a single app that absolutely requires dual core now, and there won't be for a very long time. It doesn't make sense from either a marketing or economic point of view. Smartphone OSes are designed from the ground up to be extremely efficient in usage.

The only valid reason for needing dual core is if you're into the development or min/maxing scene.

    • lol have u guys read about the Defy's issue with the ear piece? huge fail.

  • Last week I got a HTC Legend with Vodafone for $0 on a $29 cap. Would have got 3 months free access but their crappy online site was dying under load and it was the last day of the deal so I had to do it over the phone instead :(

Damn good phone, comes with Android Froyo, and a 2gig TF card.

  • +2

How about a similar deal with Desire??

    • just pay 200 extra and get the desire z :D

  • +5

    Just looking at the specs…
The Huawei X5 spec blows this out of the water and only $299 outright, unlocked, with 8gb SD Card, from Crazy Johns.

    • +3

i havent used a huawei X5. but purely basing your opinion on specs is silly. i could have a super computer and run windows 95, and it wouldnt be able to do things a i7 with Win7 could do.

its all about how interface, usability and hardware integrates together. seeing from reviews from cnet, it seems ok, but also doesn't seem that good

      • +1

also the build quality of the htc legend is unmatched by any other phone (aluminum unibody).

  • +3

Desire is Telstra exclusive so don't see a chance for discount. Desire HD has already come down in price. You can get it on http://www.crazysales.com.au/search/search#w=HTC&asug= for $550.

  • Fantastic deal if you like HTC Sense

Personally, will go for the Huawei X5 which for $299 unlocked is amazing. Bigger screen, higher resolution screen, faster processor, and stock android. Only negative is that wifi tethering is not out of the box, and needs a software update which Huawei is saying will come in May.

  • I got one of these on a 12 months contract with Vodafone and the total cost over 12 months was like $295 or something with $130 of call credit.

    • ya ya

    • when was this? when did u get it?
You have saved heaps then. I was waiting for that deal too.
      Great fone, but Vodafail!!!
      Pity Virgin don't sell Legend.

  • +1

good price….Mobicity is still like $490 oversea stock too.
Too bad i signed up with Virgin yesterday by porting my Three number!
Otherwise would have bought this outright, then ported to a month-month basis with Virgin.

    • Cooling off period?

  • Hi - is this one better than the HTC Wildfire - I'd appreciate any feedback

    • Wildfire was more a basic phone for people mainly who use social network sites. The legend is a much more better phone altho i find the screen a bit small.

    • Yes.. Specs are similar, but the Legend is an aging top of the line model as opposed to the Wildfire which has been released as a budget model.
ie it's like buying a 10 year old (but still brand new) BMW as opposed to buying a current model Kia… The feature-set is the same, but the build quality on the old flagship is significantly better.

  • -5

I'm sure you could get it cheaper than this.

  • +1

i'd consider it if it was easier to root… im looking for a relatively cheap phone to root and muck about with Android and Cyanogenmod

    • +2

      Cheap Android?
I would highly recommend the Orange San Francisco (otherwise known as the ZTE Blade) can be had for around 99pounds (UK) at ebay or find someone to buy you the prepaid at the UK from Orange.
800x400 screen and all that rooting, upgrading ROMs to 2.2 Froyo goodness. If you got the OLED version like me you'd be one of a lucky few too I think.
      my 2c.

    • Agreed, I bought the Vodafail HTC Legend and it took me 10 hours to work out how to root! (having said that, I blame Windows 64bit… the warnings are true… for some strange reason 64bit screws with the rooting process)

    • +1

Currently on CM7 RC2 overcloaked cpu and it's awesome

      • yeah that what i wanna do with it but legend is a pain to root…

  • +5

FYI: I just bought this phone last week from my local Vodafone (VF) shop outright for $350. I unlocked it for free thru VF's website and plugged my TPG (optus) sim card in and its been a dream. I can highly recommened this phone. (however, depending on stock, u can have trouble unlocking the legends for free/instantly, msg me if u want more information, i know how to get around it - in regards to buying at a VF shop).

I owned an Iphone 3 before this phone, and i am very happy with the Legend. Its not an iphone, but it isnt $700+ either.

    • I'm also looking to buy this phone from VF shop. Can't seem to msg you (contact settings prob off). Would be great to have more info regarding potential unlocking problems & how to get around them (need to use other sims for trips overseas).

      Cheers

I'll wait for all new tablets this year

    • What does this have to do with a phone?

  • on the website it mentions a 12 month warranty, doesn't HTC offer a 24 month warranty? or is that only if you purchase as part of a plan (i.e. through voda/3)?

Also if any one is interested - the phantom black version comes with 2.2 preloaded if you can get it.

  • "This Item is Temporarily Out Of Stock."

seems like i just missed out…..
    :(

uniquemobiles, any more available? or maybe black color ones?

    • Hi llzz, Yes limited stock still available. I suggest ordering very quickly

  • still waiting for a deal of a price similar to vodaphone previously had offered,$270 contract for 9 month including $300 cap each month

  • +1

Good Deal. I paid for my legend $450 4 months ago. Great phone. At this stage it is only running Android 2.1 in Australia. I also have HTC Desire HD but battery life is shocking compared to Legend. (24h compared to 3 days + with Legend)..

    • how much usage are you getting out of your phone over 3 days? my legend will last 3-4 days if i only use it for calls/texting and everything off (no wifi/3g), but it drains down hard if i play games/net etc. You can also upgrade to 2.2 via the htc site if you like.
