    *DoCoMo

  • I got the 8 day travel sim from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/401869 - which I believe is the same card.

Currently listed at $27.55 and pickup from most major airports in Japan.

With vouchers I was able to get it down to $25ish when I bought mine a few weeks back.

    • How do they compare?

      • It is the same docomo card on offer as far as I can compare.

I have also seen this one on eBay for around the 30 mark but klook ended up being the cheapest

  • I was there 2 weeks ago. I pre-ordered the "Welcome Japan" sim from docomo. There is an unlimited 3g sim that costs ~¥800 (14 days of usage) and you can choose to pick it up at the Lawson convenience store just out side immigration exit doors (terminal 3) - just print out the order confirmation to show the staff. All your data heavy uploading/social media updates can be done with the Free Wi-Fi at your Airbnb. The sim was total fine for my time in Japan , mostly used for maps and googling. I did use it to upload pics, but when you're out and about…homie ain't got time for that. will get that again when I next visit.

    • Can also vouch for this - used it on my last trip to Hokkaido for free by watching advertisements beforehand. No problems at all.

      • What I you're not staying at airbnb cause it's pricer?

        • I recently ordered a yokoso 16 day sim for $35 delivered.

It gives 3.5GB at full speed, then throttles to 32 kilobytes per second.

Not unlimited, but enough for my usage.

  • Bought 1 month voda with 20gb and five dollar roaming, have been in Tokyo and Kyōto currently. Using the DOCOMO network and it works very well!

    • Do you get 4G on it, or is it 3G only? Have you had a chance to run a speedtest? (test might eat a fair bit, 100MB+, of data)

It’s 4g and speeds are fine. I was surprised that coverage even on bullet train was good. Not streaming a lot but general use ie maps email and web no problems!

Thanks! I've been debating going this route but kinda turned off it by people reporting 3G only earlier this year on TripAdvisor. Then my coworker said 4G, so it's good to have confirmation!

@elusive: No issues in Hiroshima or Ōsaka, been solid and good speeds everywhere really

            • @Fancydancer: I'll be going to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, so it's good to know roaming will be fast everywhere :)

  • The b mobile plans are much cheaper but not unlimited though. Can anybody comment on their service? I used them last year and they seemed fine

    • I've used b mobile twice and I wouldn't use them again. Patchy reception and slow speeds. But as always, YMMV.

      • ah thanks for the feedback. was it that bad even in major cities?

        • Yeah, it was hit and miss and we didn't go anywhere rural.
