Belong Mobile $25 Starter Pack for $10 @ Coles

540

From today (17th October) Coles are selling the $25 Belong Starter Park for $10 until Tuesday 23rd October 2018.

A link to the Coles catalogue with the Belong deal on page 37-> https://www.coles.com.au/catalogues-and-specials/view-all-av…

Please note:

  • The $25 Belong Starter Pack will provide you with 5GB of data upon activation, as per its "Regular Plan". You will be credited with an additional 5GB on your first billing date ie. 5GB on activation + 5GB on your first billing date. (The initial billing date uses the credit inherent in the starter pack, so you don't need to pay anything in addition.)

  • Initial billing dates are every eighth day (4th, 12th, 20th, 28th of the month). So, for example, if you buy and activate today (17th October), in three days you will get an additional 5GB (total = 10GB). After that first billing is transacted, you can then migrate down to the 1GB $10/month "Small Plan" and bank your 10GB of data for future use.

  • All Belong Mobile plans include unlimited standard national calls, SMS and MMS (includes 13, 1300 & 1800 numbers)

PS: Don't forget to use a referral code to get an extra $20 credited to your account, and also to the account of the referrer. (Limit of 10 Referrals per account.)

Can recommend. Girlfriend and I switched to Belong, no issues at all, service switched/activated in like 10 mins for both of us.
She went on the bigger data plan for the unlimited international calls, and she gifted me some of her excess data as i am on the elcheapo plan, worked awesomely!!

    • You can get it on the elcheapo plan for $5 a month

      • is that through the jb hifi half price deal at the moment?

        • I mean you can get international call pack for $5 extra a month on the $10 plan. This is done on the belong website

  • Is belomg the plan that lets ypu use unlimited, bit very slow data if you exceed your limit? If so is it good enough for google maps?

    • +1

It is! Speed is 64kbps so think back to your dialup days, perfect for iMessage and at a pinch it is ok for maps if you're willing to wait a minute for it to load

      • +2

        Also good for GPS tracker

      • That's a good feature. Enough to use mobile banking and get you out of trouble.

    • ok for IM not so good for Google map or GPS. I ran out data couple days ago Google map took about a minute to come up.

  • +1

Belong is awesome..I pay $10 month.

  • Is there any date the service must be activated by?

    • I purchased my pack back in early-July and activated at the start of October, if that's of any help.

    • When a starter pack is purchased it is scanned and within a few hours should be usable. It will expire a year from purchase.

  • Still waiting for the $40 sim to go on sale -_-

  • Although decent on paper if you don't need too much data, I have intermittent problems with MMS. (failing to send… but only sometimes, etc) Might be just unlucky or coincidental, but my other normal Telstra SIM doesn't have these issues.

    • Doesn't Belong just resell Telstra ?

      • +1

        Belong is Telstra.

    • Did you check the apn settings on your phone

      • of course. but the problem is intermittent. it should work all the time or not at all. in this case, it must be some other issue. Telstra not devoting enough resources to Belong? Intentionally crippling it? Or just random glitch with my phones… not sure. I thought it might be the MB limit on the MMS is low (less than 2MB?) but even sending a photo measured in kB seems to make no difference.

  • $10 for 5GB???

    • +1

Confusing but it sounds like 10gb. You get 5gb then need to wait for your billing date which could be a few days.

Data will then roll over if unused.

    • Plus unlimited local calls and SMS, unused data rollover, data gifting etc.

  • No voicemail sucks.

    • +1

This is being "worked on" according to the Belong rep on Whirlpool, but no ETA.

      • Rumors were December but the last update I heard it was early 2019 - first quarter perhaps?

    • +6

Voicemail sucks, send me a text

    • Voicemail.sucks.

  • I guess not but can you access telstra air with belong?

    • Good guess

  • I moved to belong last month and work in a regional location, and recieve the same service as I did with Telstra. Another plus

  • Can anyone confirm that it works with a locked Telstra phone. I believe it does but when I went to Telstra shop today to purchase locked Oppo AX5 for $299 I was told it wouldnt work.

    • You were told correctly, all recent Telstra prepaid handsets are properly locked, meaning they only work with a Telstra or Boost sim

  • 15GB for $20 @ Boost Mobile

  • Very bad experience with Belong with a similar deal to this early in the year. Bought a few sims for some overseas friends who were visiting. Signed up in their names but we used my credit card. After they left I tried to cancel and Belong refused to deal with me because the accounts were not in my name. When I told them the credit card was in my name they said they had no proof of that. When I asked why they let someone sign up with a credit card with a different name to the account they hung up on me. In the end I used a fake accent but that only worked to get one account cancelled, spent a few extra hours on the phone with them but they wouldn't do any more. Had to cancel my credit card to stop them rebilling.

    • This is my biggest fear with joining Belong. It's ridiculous how a $10 monthly postpaid plan that operates like a prepaid plan can potentially affect your credit score.

I suppose it's normal that only the owner of a phone number could cancel it. Without a proxy form though it seems a bank should be able to deny direct debit in the absence of a personal contract. Would it have been possible to simply port out to a cheap SIM without human interaction?

      • +2

Can you explain how it effects your credit score? There was no credit check conducted and if you don’t pay they just cut you off (no collections agency or anything)

        • Sorry I wasn't speaking from experience. Although it's unlikely to occur with Belong if they cut you off as you say, with usual post-paid plans apparently if you have $150 owing for more than 60 days you can get it marked as a consumer payment default on your credit report for 5 years, even once paid.

    • You don't need to cancel, just port the number to another operator.

  • Just port sim to Optus or Vodafone to stop billing.

Or get a discounted prepaid Mastercard
like Coles has on sale starting today -Flybuys deal- spend the rest on other items
and just leave the "pending" amount of $1.

I use these cards regularly for Spotify deals etc where I don't want to risk recurring billing.

    Cheers

  • For someone that wants to simply accumulate a good chunk of data (say over 30 GB) and either downgrade or gift it to their $10 plan (cancelling the new one and keeping referral credit) I suppose this isn't ideal compared to half-price $40 SIMs when they exist?

I accidentally chewed through 1 GB in a day on Amaysim since my dual SIM phone that can't do dual SIM in Australia was left on Amaysim instead of a Kogan disposable after I needed to make a phone call…

  • Can you switch to the $10 plan after a month
and the unused data be transferred to the new plan?

    • +1

      Yes

  • I tried a referral from here in the promo code section but it didn't work, now I've progressed in the signup, I guess there is no way to enter it afterwards?

    • If you haven't activated it, you can probably start again and re-try.

You won't see the benefit of the referral until you're fully signed up. It will show as a "credit" in your payment profile.

  • I bought a Belong sim a while back on the same deal. Anyone know how long I have to activate it before it expires? Didn't opt to make it my main service because it turns out Optus has better coverage in my area, maybe because Belong only has Telstra wholesale coverage not full retail. Still a good price for a month's data if I need it though.

    • I've read that is "around a year" but nothing definitive.

  • +1

Office Works are now matching this deal (Belong Mobile $25 Starter Pack for $10)

  • I'm just wondering, for those who has multiple belong accounts (eg to refer yourself/data gifting), did you use the same details (name & address) and different email?
Or do you use different name/address for the secondary accounts?

    • different email. different name. same address.

      • How do you use a different name ?

Don't you need to provide ID to sign-up to a Belong Mobile account ?

        • No ID is required when activating. In fact you can just make a name and DOB because it's not verified. The payment method (Paypal or Credit/Debit card) is verified tho.

          • @finbar: How is the Credit/Debit Card verified ?

            • @[Deactivated]: They withdraw $1 initially and check that the payment goes through. The $1 is returned a few days later.

              • @finbar: When you go through the sign-up process and want to select a 'new' number, does it let you search and choose from available numbers ?

Or does it just default a number with no options ?

          • @finbar: Thanks finbar.

Do you know if we can use the same paypal/credit card for multiple belongs account?
