They sell it in a phone variant which is extremely appealing.

      • Oops, I'm thinking of the Granbeat.

The Generation born post 2000 don't even know what CD quality sound is like, let alone Hi Res. This deal will go unnoticed.

    • -7

I don't get what is meant by "CD quality sound"

How does using a CD make the sound quality better? In comparison to what?

    • +10

Sadly true. The number of people I spot with very expensive headphones pumping out mp3 music files at high volume maked me concerned how many of them will become prematurely hearing impaired (deaf).

Having spent a few years in radio broadcasting (producing, recording, presenting) I quickly learnt the true value of using high quality audio equipment to play music back at low volume and this has left me at age 65 with hearing as good as it was at age 20. I can still hear guitar picks and strings snapping and violins being played with shredded bows. Never once have I gone the 'Spinal Tap' route of ramping the amp up to '11'! I am glad I 'listened' to my mentors back in theday :)

Anyway.. about to choof off and have a look at this listing. B&H are an excellent mob to deal with. Fast and furious service and reasonable shipping costs. They do not appear to be pre-occupied with the Australian post 01-Ju-2018 GST impost. As long as goods are coming in at the old A$1K limit, there has to been no issue for me so far touch wood.

        Hahaha, you're hilarious.

Yet I still see people abusing the volume on their amps when using FLAC. Loudness is often a preference and a disregard for ones self

Sound isolating IEMs help with the amount of energy needed to drive your music

      • So true, I had an early 90s Roland sound card, even MP3s sounded amazing. I tried any other sound card and nothing came close. So annoyed it only had windows 3.1 drivers for it. It worked with windows 95 but nothing beyond that.

Humans cannot perceive higher resolution than CD quality.

      • ….. and we can't hear more than 60 beats per second……….

      • +1

When playing back media from a digital encoded file there certainly are benefits. "There is no benefit to anything more than 16bit 44kHz" is NOT scientifically correct for digital media.

Edit: Listen to the quality that gives you the most enjoyment through a player that gives you the sound that you enjoy. That's a much better judgement for your listening preference than worrying about some numbers that may or may not be mathematically and/or real world correct.

yet another generalisation about the younger generation. I'm not from that generation but I tire of these generalisations.

        passes the tissues..

  • If we were to compare this to the Sony A45, which would be a better option if we are using Sony headphones?

The guy who works at the audio shop told me a sony player will be able to get the most out of a sony headphone, i.e. making a sony player a better match for Sony headphones.

    • +5

That "technological" advice sounds like what is technically known as "poppycock".

      • "Poppycock"= salespeak = upselling = bullshit ;)

    • Lol, he probably had no idea what he was talking about.

    • +5

told me a sony player will be able to get the most out of a sony headphone,

      lies, all lies.

    • I was fooled. Haha

But in a more serious note, is this similar to the Sony nw-a45? I seem to remember the Sony having better Bluetooth tech.

      • +1

You are right, Sony has better bluetooth tech. If you're using Sony 1000XM3 - op for the sony (both support the LDAC codec). If you're using Bose QC 35 II, then get either (Bose only supports the shittier SBC format). the Pioneer does not support LDAC or any advanced codecs…

    • +2

Would that be the guy who sold you the Sony player perchance?
Occam has a good razor for you.

  • How much is everyone paying as final amount?

    • I paid about $250Aud after conversion.

  • Pulled the trigger also.. Thx OP.!

I suppose having like 3 pairs of half decent headphones warrants a decent player…

FYI - Converted to just under $240AUD for me…

  • Doesn't latest phones can do this already?
Why would anyone need MP3 players anymore

  • Worth noting these can stream Tidal but you cannot resume upon pause.

  • Does it need a proprietary charger?

    • Manual says it has a Micro USB port

  • One of the reviewers at B&H says it has no search function.

  • I read on the website it has 2 year limited warranty. Is that under B&H (so I have to send it to B&H) or directly with Pioneer (so I can send it to any Pioneer service centre)?

  • Damn…only saw the deal just now and it's back to 229 USD

  • Mine arrived yesterday…

Got it home 2day & unboxed it, only to find the battery dead flat…

Waiting for it 2 charge now so i can see wot this sucker does…

Uses Micro USB for charge port btw, hoping it’s also a data port as i have an OTG thumb drive to try on it…
