    • YES! And included 2PC of luggage included. Stopovers in Shanghai permitted!

Amazing price, terrible airline. Now let me explain before you neg me.

I was suffering from barotrauma (an extreme build up of pressure behind ears/forehead when descending) and they wouldn't give me a glass of water or anything - they looked at me saw me in immense pain and kept strolling past. Other airlines have provided much more - my favourite being Air New Zealand (they gave a hot, wet towel which helped considerably - I also remember steam and a bucket?).
Of course, I can't actually remember half of that landing because I was delirious but my mate's there told me exactly what happened.

Pilot was super rough both on take off and landing which made it worse. Never again.

      Why so many downvotes..?

      • +1

I honestly have no idea, but can assume people just think I am being "racist" or something by complaining about a Chinese airline.

If this was a United flight, I'd certainly have something to say also - second worst experience, but this isn't a United flight.

Also Emirates and Malaysian Airlines (before MH17/370) also provided top notch support and concern for me. They didn't just run away like this lot.

        • or red army downvoting anyone defaming Chinese airline.

I like Air China but when it comes to handling troubles, they are horrible or somewhat ignorant.

    • ouch. what have you tried to use as a preventative? A pilot mate years ago suggested we give our kids lollipops on decent to help equalise. Which shut them up one way or another ;-)

Pseudoephedrine might be worth a shot (sudafed behind the counter at the chemist, not the PE stuff)

      • I have now been using EarPlanes (which help short-term, can't hear anything though) and Vicks vapodrops.

It's not a great fix but at least the pain is toned down from an 11 to a 7 or 8.

I end up getting more help from the actual passengers on board (who seem more concerned than the staff!) - live and learn. But I'll definitely pay more for a direct flight somewhere for this exact reason.

Actually you are supposed to land roughly. Its much safer.

The first time this happened to me I was convinced I was about to die. I was actually in a frozen panic, so didn't even ask for any assistance. Easily the worst pain I've ever felt. It has happened a few times, but at least I knew then what it was (and that I won't die). For me, FESS spray is a godsend.

      • Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to look in to it. Glad I'm not the only one!!

anyone able to get any actual dates after "speaking to an expert"?

    • Call 134782 I am sure they can help - select dates of course like any offer but I booked this for May - coming home in June.

  • +2

Great price if you wanted to go attend Primavera music festival on at the end of May… but yeah, the airline…..

$700 return to Europe, would you really care who you fly with for that price?

    • +4

Personally I'd pay $300 more to go on a better rated airline for a 24 hour flight but each to their own.

I haven't flown with this lot but have never heard a positive review. In the end though, this is a great price and a deal is a deal!

      • +2

LOL! This is ozbargain! People don't pay $300 more because they're soft and need pampering. Why do people upvote this rubbish?!

I flew with Air China to NYC this year and their service was fine for the price of $900 return.

    Any good deal for London?

    • +1

Ryanair flight to London from Barcelona…

      • That will end up costing 100-200 more and lots of hassles. You'd need to pay extra for bags, too. There are alternatives to London at $900.

    • London one way $479 or return or $949 with Royal Brunei(ex MEL)

Or fly with Malaysia Airlines $1059 return - can lay-by for $99 and pay the rest 10 weeks before you fly

  • Around what dates you guys are seeing ~$700 fares from Sydney? I checked May/June - nothing

  • -2

Hey guys - you will not be able to find this price on the website - you have to call a store to book as this is an exclusive in store offer only - You can also call the Contact Centre on 134782, I just booked my flight going to BCN in May and coming home in June and got the $699 offer fine

    Aija

  • The difference between a Cheap and Standard price is a nights accommodation in Europe. I'd rather spend less time on the flight and stop over and pay the extra $250-350 for something more direct.

    • +1

      Not for a backpacker/budget accom.

  • Sydney <-> Barcelona involves 2 stops in Chengdu and Beijing.

    • +1

Wrong. One stop on Shanghai (PVG) each way.

  • +1

Too bad I missed it. Like many efficient ozbargainers I browse the category on a Saturday, not on a Friday night when I value the time with family…

    • You can set up email notifications for travel related listings. The downside is the spam associated with luggage and sim cards listings.

    • STA Travel have just released another fare: $799 RT to Rome with Air China - not quite $699 but still a great offer and lots of availability in May/Jun again. Call 134782 I am sure they can help :)
