They're still making Radeon 7000 videocards?? A PC I bought 9years ago had one of those in it and it was far from state of the art then.

  • can any of these cards do hardware video decoding? i.e. play hd video
can they play street fighter 4?

    • PCI = 133MB/s vs PCIe x16 = 8000MB/s, (PCIe 8400GS 512MB is only $35) why would anyone wants a PCI cards these days anyway, when most cards can do dual or triple monitor.

      • lol my pc only has agp/pci

        • Then i would go AGP (arround $66 for 512mb). Stay away from PCI cards they are very sluggish, they are for good old days of 800x600

      • my old man has one that doens't have standard TV out for watching videos, so have had to network it to another PC with an APG video card that does, plug that into an av sender so it can all work,
would be much easier to get an extremely cheap PCI card for TV out in the Main PC so we dont have to have the second PC on…

these things would do the job…

  • the 8400gs and radeo 7000 are low profile cards that will fit into dell slimline pcs (which usually have inbuilt crappy graphics)

PCI video is the best way to add a third/forth/fifth ect monitor, but the bandwidth through the bus 128m/sec is a real performance killer

  • +2

Wow, don't know anyone still want to buy PCI video cards let a lone selling one. May be at a secondhand/computer markets but not new from a store .

  • Aw crap. Just ordered one on dealxtreme last week.. :(

    • +4

so you could buy one of these to use for the next 2-3 months while you wait for the dx one to arrive lol

  • +1

I reckon the inbuilt Intel HD Express would be better than most of these.

  • You can get 5450 cheaper. They are too old models but they are PCI cards, anyone will still buy PCI card?

  • -2

who in their right mind would pay for these outdated GPU?

    • amen to that!

    • +5

people who need a PCI GPU?

can you show me where you can get a new PCI GPU for less than this?

Just because you don't need it or want it, doesn't mean everyone feels the same.

      • +2

Who needs a new PCI video card?

Who has a computer that is so old its motherboard doesn't have PCI-E or even AGP, and is prepared to spend money to upgrade it?

        • +4

Well, at my old work, there is a PII 500 running as a subversion server. If say, the graphic card dies, the first thing they will do is to find a replacement, and then possibly upgrading the whole thing.

Frankly, there are still a lot of old work horses out there, especially when you are dealing with legacy peripherals. E.g. a couple of the older CNCs at work.

Just because you live in the iPad world, and can not see the need for it, doesn't mean the need does not exist.

        • +3

So you're goin to pay full price for a brand new card instead of a few dollars in the 2nd hand market?

      • +1

outdated and obsolete. Save ur self some money and time buy upgrading your system. You will save more in the long run, esp in term of driver support, compatibility, loading time, power consumption, etc..

        • +2

AGAIN. in a lot of cases, upgrading of the computer it self is not a problem. Its upgrading everything else thats the issue. Its funny that you mention driver support and compatibility, have you tried finding drivers for some of the legacy data takers, PLC etc for a modern OS. When was the last time that you saw a parallel port on a machine?

Sure, you are probably rich enough since you are on OzBargains, that when you upgrade the PC, you can upgrade the 10 datatakers that are 3-5k each along with it, or that 100k CNC as well. But for us mere mortals, upgrading the entire ecosystem is just not feasible.

        • +2

Well in anycase you ertainly aren't going to be shopping on OzB for a video ard if your machine has suddenly clapped out. This post is a waste of space and the product would be useless to 99.99% of OzBargainers.

        • most new graphics cards don't have standard TV out… they have HDMI etc…saves sacrificing on a good graphics card to find one with TV out…

    • +1

Anyone who wants multiple monitors displaying slow-changing data.

Not all computers are used for playing games or movies, some are used for actual work.

It doesn't take much GPU power to render a web page, or a PDF.

I currently have 4 PCs at my desk with 2 monitors each.
Using PCI cards I could trim that back to 2 PCs.

      Or add more monitors. :)

  • +4

those older fully functioning computers need these. DX & markets are where to otherwise buy. If not take your electric screwdrivers out on council cleanups.

  • +1

    Real ultimate powa!

  • -2

All crappy video cards at premium prices.

    • -5

      Agreed. Terrible value.

      • +3

Find a better $ on SI, i dare you.

        • -1

8400GS is $25 at MSY. Do your research before you start spouting out rubbish.

          http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=8400gs&spos=1

Plus loads of AGP cards here for under $20

        • +4

mustkill - What part of PCI-'E' vs PCI dont you understand?

          Do you need a refresher?

        • +4

Don't know why I can't reply to mustkills post but the msy one is Pcie which is different

        • -4

          PCI-E > AGP > PCI

        • +8

not when you only have a PCI slot.

geez, this is for people with legacy systems that they want to keep it running.

        • +5

mustkill - the argument isn't which video bus standard is better MOD: REMOVED PERSONAL ATTACK, it is whether there is a better deal anywhere for a PCI video card(not PCI-E). SI says there isn't.

Be open minded, there are uses for these for alot people/industries, mine included.

Let me explain - we build display pc's for the gambling industry. We have to get a complete unit approved by the government before we can operate it. If that unit fails we need to replace the SAME unit, like for like. If the unit is end of life, or we can't repair or source the same unit or part, we might search the 2nd-hand/grey market for these exact kinds of cards just to keep it going till the next major upgrade project. Approvals cost us time and money, so we keep our old, perfectly capable devices alive.

You guys would cry if you saw how much people are willing to pay for legacy devices when they are desperately needed due to failure.

  • I offer $2.2, $3.4, and $5.95

  • +1

This is not a bargain, those cards are pretty worthless now!
Let me guess, next thing you are gonna post is EDO RAM or SD RAM?

  • +5

Seeing the closest ATI7000 PCI card on SI is worth $83, i don't see why this is seen as a waste of people time.

Just because there's better gear out there doesn't mean these are useless. I know plenty of people who would rather breath life into old gear than to constantly chase the upgrade dragon, esp if you dont need the CPU/GPU grunt.

PC's are used for more than games/videos/internet you know.

  • +6

argh.. used up my daily negs on people who don't seem to be able to comprehend the simple fact that there are some people in the market for things that the said people find useless… :/

    • Yep! I always waste mine so quickly on that :P

  • +3

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Retro-Atrai-2600-System-C-Sticks-Padd…

Need we say more….it's not about how old/obsolete the product is, it's about whether there is demand for it.

And if someone is chasing this product, this is a bargain.

  • +1

it's like buying a DDR1 at this time .. overpriced

  • +1

Lol i bought the 8400 4 years ago for that price

  • Most comments here are useless… this is a good option for adding a third monitor for non graphoc intensive work, ie email/web browsing.

    • or movie viewing when you're PCI'e doenst have standard tv out…
