Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones $349.99 @ Costco (Membership Required)

1380

So many 1000xm3 deals so far couldn't tell if this is good enough. Maybe not compared to the past costco xm2 deal I guess which I didn't get.

Usually $399.99

The photo was taken at Epping costco VIC and this deal should be statewide at least.

First time post thanks to someone who help me edited the title.

You're far better, my friend !

      • true true!!!! however I did use ebay gift cards :)

    • +1

Well you got to use it sooner than others :). Electronics are probably the only things that depreciate so quickly even when brand new.

  • +1

What the hell is instant rebate?

    • +17

You just pay less at the counter… an American way of saying 'discount'

  • Gotta find someones costco membership to borrow now.

I am not in Sydney, but let me know if you want to buy one in Costco Moorabbin Airport, you can go with me on my next visit :)

    • OP appears to be in Melbourne. I've just picked one up from Canberra. Could be nationwide?

      • Many in stock in Canberra?

      • Canberra! Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

  • $299 soon?

    • -1

That would be the sweet spot for this headphone. I feel sorry for ppl go nuts for $370 price tag.

  • +3

Under $350 for brand new now. I’m tipping under $300 in time for Christmas. Am keen to get myself and my partner a pair each before our next international trip!

    • +1

      Don't forget TRS!

      • It looks like a 60 day limit for claiming after purchase so I may not be able to.

    • +5

      That's just their marketing strategy

    • -1

Go away troll… you said the same thing in both posts.

If you buy stuff based on price go ahead. Stop spreading FUD when A Sony is a reputable brand B quality has been proven in terms of NC and build quality.

    • Thats how they roll, very high RRP then big discounts, ppl go nuts!

      • No with these Sony’s overseas prices are still around their RRP and rarely have discount.

        Source in the other post.

        • Sony Australia RRP pricing for regional based than overseas market. Each market given certain amount of stocks to sell within a time frame, if they don't sell, they reduce the price. usually higher RRP benefitiory are retailers.

    • What's your point?

      Serious question.

They will sound different. Buy the one you prefer. $50 is nothing.

how good are these???? i always had a problem with sonys earphones/headphones, the reproduction is terrible, just terrible, instruments/vocals always sound like computerized, artificial, you dont feel the layers expanding, giving depth to differentiate lows, mids, highs.

    • How about researching using youtube? There are litreally tonnes of reviews you can find about the headphones there

      • +4

There are litreally tonnes of reviews

Did they use a weighbridge to quantify them?

        • +1

Nah but you'll need one for those eyebrows

    • +1

how good are these!!!! i always had no problem with sonys earphones/headphones, the reproduction is tremendous, just tremendous, instruments/vocals always sound like the way they made it, natural, you feel the layers expanding, giving depth to differentiate lows, mids, highs.

Are these like fan boy noise cancelling headphones or what?

  • Anyone have a go at getting JB or HN to pricematch?

    • Depends on the employee, some will do it, others will add the membership fee to the price.

      • I heard stories in other threads that if you show JB your membership card when price matching Costco, they won’t add the $60 member fee.

    • Person I got on Live chat wouldn’t do it for me but matched the Sydney airport duty free price

    • That would be awesome, I got few gift vouchers to use :)

  • the invoice provided at check out is suitable for the tourist refund at the airport?

    • Yes, 100%.

      • +9

        Yes, 10% ..

  • anyone in QLD have any luck? :)

  • Costco’s actually been having some good deals lately. I picked a PlayStation VR yesterday for $150 (version 1, camera had an open box) from the North Lakes store.

"The next level of silence" ?? Are we looking at crazy expensive ear muffs ??

    • +3

You never used noise-cancelling or something?

      • -2

For silence I either use ear muffs or send my wife to her home.

  • Just speculation, with the our dollar being so low and Sony making noises about increasing the wholesale cost of these headphones, I am not sure how much lower these can go.

    • According to another post, the wholesale on these is only $240. So no wonder every company is trying to jump in at $350. The markup seems over the top, especially for such a small item (freight negligible). I'm hopeful of another $269 JB Hifi on these (like the XM2's). Making $20 (drop shipped) seems reasonable (allowing $10 for shipping), currently around $100 profit per headset seems on the high side. I'm guessing theres no shortage in terms of stock in Australia, hence the more competitive pricing.

      • Happy to be corrected on the $240 wholesale. Someone trying to cover up that figure the reason for the neg?

        • I get staff price from Sony on these at $299, so $240 may be a bit low

        • 240 at what qty? Probably like 10000 pieces for jb? … See what the single piece price is. At any rate, if I was in the market for one of these I'd buy these for sure.

          • +1

@hippyhippy: Why? I don't think any retailer is buying one of these. While Addicted to Audio and the smaller retailers aren't going to be buying the same quantity as Harvey Norman, JB Hifi, CostCo, etc. the price difference shouldn't be that significant. It's a sad state when HN look for excuses to avoid price matching instead of moving stock, and that the smaller players are the ones bringing prices down. Competition between the big retailers seems to be heading the way of the big banks. Protect your large margins, don't undercut each other, and everything ticks along nicely. Now that Sony have revised the RRP from 499 down to 399, $50 off (~12% from RRP), $349 inc shipping from a smaller retailer is the best deal on offer. Even with the inflated prices for the 20% eBay selected sellers "sales", at full RRP these should become available around the $320 mark sometime soon.

            • @hellrazorone: no one needs to match prices if they dont want to … if a retailer thinks 100 is what they need to move the box, its up to them.

  • +2

Everyone going about about Sony failing with this model because of the price drops do know there's a whole world outside Australia, right?

The same doesn't appear to be happening in other countries, and is happening under pretty specific circumstances here. I.e. it's generally from small players trying to make a name for themselves, generic eBay discounts and company incentive sites.

While I know Australia is the center of the universe as far as most of us are concerned, I'm sure if Sony was having real problems and needing to shift lots of these, they'd choose a much bigger market than Australia to do so.

    • +2

It's getting good reviews internationally, but Sony misdjudged the local RRP. If they stayed at $499, they wouldn't get anywhere near the same buzz.

      • And they also won't get anywhere near the amount of buzz at $300 as they would for $150!

The RRP in Australia is the same or cheaper than all the other countries I checked. Significantly so sometimes - they're $600 in the UK.

  • +3

It's 4c cheaper here, and no requirement for membership at all: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/411220

    You're welcome. ☺

    • Yeah shots fired by addicted to audio.

  • Should I get this instead and sell my unopened Bose Qc35ii?

    • Depends on what you want. Have tried them both on at stores?

I find the Bose more compact on my head. Sony feel a little bigger.

Just tried both on a plane ride and both offerref similar performance NC wise. I think the Sony were a little better at removing voices. This is the M3 and QC25

Picked one up from Costco North Lakes (QLD) today. They did not have any on display. I had to ask for it. They had 15 on hand. Listening to music on my laptop using these headphones right now, the ANC is pretty impressive !

  • I'll just keep using my OPPO Pm3

  • I got a price match at jb cbd (the strand) for $349.95 by showing the photo above.

  • Went to Casula and auburn. Both out of stock in black

  • Thanks op. I used your photo just now at jbhifi to price match.
