      Tasty Tuesdays

      • Do the allocations run out quickly each Tuesday?

        • -1

          Depends on the offer
The oporto one was very popular and lasted only a few Days

    • +1

churning providers on a monthly basis..

      • But when churning, will there be like one or two days where the current Sim expired but the porting still in progress for example? So you don't have number active during that gap period?

        • +2

Nah, maybe 5 mins to do once your credit expires.. make sure you are porting (eg. telstra to optus) not transferring (eg. optus to optus reseller). Transferring can take days to complete sometimes.

          • @Supercool: wow. i have churned before but i worried so i gave like 2 days before billing cycle ends just in case slow porting. but now i remember the processes took 1 hour max.

            • @CyberMurning: Porting can still fall over. I had a churn get stuck on a Friday and no phone until the Monday morning. Lesson learnt, is to keep away from weekends during the process.

There is Optus store around the corner of my office. I wish they do the same deal in stores.

    • +2

Price match at officeworks. I've successfully done this before, but I find the optus online system cumbersome, so I refuse to use them. Optus MNVOs are fine.

Just picked up from OW for $4.75

        • +1

Did OW ask you to activate it within 2 days or you can activate it at any time, ie. No time limit?

          • @yht: Didn't say anything. It's just a standard starter pack that they price beat on.

            • @star-ggg: I guess Optus Chat just bluffing

        • +1

Why does your comment get more plus votes?

  • When you need to activate by?

    • First recharge needs to be made before 4/2/19

      • If I chose the long expire plan, can I activate it in December?

        • Probably, read the terms for that plan

      • +4

        I think Pros never recharge.

        • Correct pros never recharge or shop at HN

          Its either port or bust

      • is that only to get the bonus 10GB, i.e. if activate after 4 feb, you will only get the standard 10GB (but still able to be activated)?

    • I wanted to know this too so I've just live chatted with Optus - they said it's activated on delivery 😞:

Auto-Generated Message (20:02:03 AEST) : Hi, this is Addison C, your Optus Sales consultant. How can I help?
Auto-Generated Message (20:02:05 AEST) : Solution Type: "UDE Chat"
Visitor (20:03:06 AEST) : Hi there. I've seen the Optus $30 SIM Starter Kit for $5. If I bought one could I keep it and not activate until March 2019?
      Addison C (20:04:47 AEST) : Hi there.
Addison C (20:04:51 AEST) : Help me with your full name, Mobile number and date of birth so that I will check your account .
Visitor (20:06:11 AEST) : XXXXXXX, XX/XXXX/XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. However, I wouldn't be buying the Sim for me, I'd be buying it for my Dad.
Addison C (20:06:30 AEST) : Thank you for details.
      Visitor (20:06:37 AEST) : Ok
Addison C (20:07:11 AEST) : Allow me a minute while I will check this for you.
      Visitor (20:07:20 AEST) : Thanks
Addison C (20:07:36 AEST) : You are welcome.
Addison C (20:10:41 AEST) : If you get the sim plan it will active once you receive the delivery.
Visitor (20:11:10 AEST) : That's a Shame. Thank you for checking this
Addison C (20:12:30 AEST) : You are Welcome.

      • That is a shame !

I do not think so. Upon activation, you will need to choose 1 from 4 options(OPTUS EPIC DATA, OPTUS EPIC VALUE, DAILY PLUS, OPTUS PREPAID LONG EXPIRY). You will not get to choose when buy it.

I think he means the SIM card is paid(or charged) and ready to activate on delivery, not like an empty card (unpaid) hanging on the racks in Coles/Woolies.

        • That makes sense - I just wish the Optus person had said it!

        • +2

I would like to think like that too. I chat with Optus. They said I have activate it within 2 days. And if not? The sim will not be usable.
Then I asked what if I bought it from supermarket, will I also need to activate it withun 2 days? You have to ask them. What the????

          • +1

@yht: They just want you guys to activate it. Otherwise the ones I bought in the past (same deal) there's at least a year in them. Unless they give you an expired pack.

            • @Inflow: I think they will give us an almost expire one

      • +6

Disregard them. The sim expiry on the packet is when it will expire. I purchase these every time they're $5 and the current batch expiry dates are 2020.

        • Got it today. SIM expires 1 FEB 2020, the same as the one I got last time.

          • @Neoika: Did u get shipment notification?

            • @yht: Yeah, by startrack in Sydney.

  • +2

Yep as Salmon123 mentioned. OW pricebeat worked for me.

  • tempted just for tuesday treats.
$5 and if i can get 10 meals.. that super cheap lunch/snack

  • Thanks OP. Needed a full size SIM for an old phone I revived.

  • Got mine delivers for $10. :’(

  • +1

Can this be activated as a long life sim with 365 day expiry? Just need it to receive calls. that's all.

  • Careful. Optus sends out expired ones.

    • I have bought about 50 so far, not 1 of them had any issues.
I always activate doing sim-swap, not sure if that makes a difference.
Surely if they sent 1 with expired date listed on pack, then you could easily get a replacement from them.
Pay with PayPal for added security, do paypal cashback if all else fails.

      • What plan do you activate on?

        • I just activate as sim-swap , so not any current plan. Keep my old plan, old number, etc, just tell them my old sim card is faulty (if they ask) .

  • thanks bought 1 to put in the bathroom vanity for guest use.

    • Lol. What the ?? Put a sim starter pack in bathroom vanity ?? Or you mean an active sim, inside a spare old phone you have ??

  • Right on time.. Getting one thank you op

  • Will it come with 20GB upon activation or only 10GB?

  • Time to stock up

    • Really? Read above posts. Someone said First recharge needs to be made before 4/2/19, and then Sim card will be active on delivery

  • +1

Optus threw me a credit card error after my third purchase. So I paid for the next three via Paypal.

    • +1

      Username checks out!

  • Went to OW $30 only 5GB data, no good

    • Data depends on prepaid plans available at activation of sim.
(so you will get same offer wcy148 )

  • Pretty nice price for those who churn monthly, and if they don't prefer the CatchConnect $15/90days deal (before $5 cashtewards).

    Thanks OP!

    • Did port from catch to optus this morning but still stuck with catch.

      • +1

Yea, because CatchConnect uses Optus network. If you port across different underlying networks (i.e. Telstra, Vodafone, Optus), then the port is fairly quick to due automatic electronic matching and porting. However if the port is within the same underlying network (eg Catch/Optus to Optus), then the transfer will require manual (?) attention and may take days.

Maybe give Optus a call yomorrow just to make sure the process has been initiated.

        • thanks, will keep in mind, should ring once poting request done.

  • Limited to 1 per customer - one per household or one per email address?

  • Can I buy this just to use on holiday for one month? Do I need to put credit card details or can I just do the single month? We are staying somewhere with no wifi and I need it for the kids to hotspot! If I buy it now to use in January I can still activate it and get the 10gb data. Is that correct?

    • If it's data you're after why not get the Kogan deal 32Gb for $4.90 here
