  • dont have much time to arrange the travel but save first. thanks

  • Nice!

  • +3

You are up early TA - chasing worms :)

    • +2

Everyone knows "the early arse gets the worm"

  • Can flight centre help with redeeming freq flyer points, where you pay the taxes/surcharges through them instead of directly to eg Qantas?

  • At least they seem to sell gift cards
    https://www.flightcentre.com.au/travel-extras/gift-cards

Who knows if it will trigger the credit though.

    • In theory it should as Amex can’t tell what you got from Flight Centre but until someone tries it out for themselves, we won’t know

    • interested to know if this works too!

    • It says it excludes payments made online to Flight Centre Gift Registry so I assume not :( Maybe in store though?

      • +4

The Gift Registry is when you give money to fund people's holidays, no? Gift cards are different to gift registries

    • +5

Purchased a gift card at lunch today.

      $500 * 1.0092 (Surcharge for AMEX is 0.92%) = $504.60
Sale processed on a regular EFTPOS terminal.

Within 1 minute received the confirmation of $100 credit. Will post back in a few days once it lands in my account.

      • hey, what's your confirmation email said, my online confirmation email had the following but no surcharge

thank you for using amex offers with your card ending xxxxx at 647500 travel gift cards..i would thought it will say at flight center not travel gift cards, so a bit concern about this

        • Spend $500 or more, get $100 back
Thank you for using Amex Offers with your Card ending in 4xxxx at FLIGHT CENTRE.

Think it might be more obvious for them to weed out the online transactions, but they probably won't.

The salesperson at Flight Centre remarked that so many people had been buying $500 gift cards today… Might start seeing some "No Amex" signs in the near future…

          • +3

@TitanFather: Don't you even dare joke about Hardly Normal practices!

        • Did you get the cashback in the end? Got the same email as you and also said ïf your transaction meets the offer terms…" :/

          • +2

            @panacheski: yep got the cashback

            • @reacher: Great news, so you got cashback even with purchasing GC online and the merchant name is slightly different?

  • Targeted? Can't see this on my Amex Qantas Discovery card.

    • +4

OP has provided the manual link

    • +3

Not targeted. Click the link and save to card.

    • Ooooh thanks both. Guess it's delayed appearing via mobile app.

  • +3

Does flight centre have an AMEX surcharge?

    • +6

      From the FC Site:

Credit card surcharges of 0.92% for Visa, 0.57% for MasterCard, 0.92% for American Express, and 2.5% for Diner’s Club will apply when paying by credit card.

      • +1

Ask nicely and the agent may waive the fee.

I recently (last week) booked a $5k trip with FC and asked this and they waived the surcharge.

I booked it last week and that is what annoys me.

        • Yes, they might wave the cc fee but will incorporate it into their mark up anyway. You will never see it on your invoice.

      • +1

Do a price beat and you don't pay the surcharge

        • Before they did, but last week asked about it. They told me no.

        • Even though I price beat they still wanted to charge me fees for all card payments earlier in the year.

    • +11

Just bought $500 gift card. I got the 'amex offer redeemed' email within seconds.

I didn't pay any amex surcharge when buying the gift card

      • Gutsy! Can you let us know when the rebate shows up in your AMEX account plse?
Does anyone know approx time to show in AMEX Account?

        • +1

          Yup can let you know.
It usually takes 2-3 days to show.

        • $100 credit showed up in both my accounts this morning

      • you brought from flight centre website or instore? egift card?

        • online

          • @krapola: You can customise the giftcard amount to exact $500, including surcharge. Probably about $495.XX or just $496.

            • @Neoika: no amex surchage when i bought my egift cards

          • @krapola: Thank you and brought it through online and no surcharge

      • Is the gift card in your name? Can I gift the gift card to someone else to use?

        • my name

      • Can you use multiple gift cards for a single flight?

        • +1

Sure can, I used $50 gift cards to pay $3k+

      • It looks like you cannot use gift card to pay for hotel. Can anyone confirm?

        • Treat gift card like cash, and how cash can not be use to pay for hotel?

    • Have you received the statement credit, yet?

      • +1

        Yes

  • I wonder why it’s not in the app?

    • It's in the app for me

  • in one or more transactions

Does that mean $500+ cumulated over several transactions?

    • +1

Yes. You just need to reach a minimum of $500 worth of any number of flight centre transactions on your Amex.

  • +2

Thank goodness you can use it online. Last thing I would want to do in this day and age is go into a travel agent office!

Had to manually add to my Velocity Escape.

  • Damn, booked a $500 flight last week

    • I just booked yesterday after waiting for 3 days argghhh

  • Anyone knows if they do split transactions?

    • +2

      Yep they do.

  • $15 serving fee per flight to book plus any merchant fees, wow, by the time I book two flights I’d lucky to save $40

    • I'm thinking that with multiple Amex cards and a more expensive flight such as $1,500+ to Europe that this will give you a much better return.

You could also consider trying to get FlightCenter to status match flights like that $490 Qantas flight to HKG and after all the merchant fees etc (or even coughing up a few bucks for that price guarantee), you will hit the $500 mark.

    • There are no booking fees for booking hotels online with FC (but may still have card merchant fees).

      Disclaimer: I work for FC

      • Yes but hotels always have percentage off, flights are where it really matters

      • +2

The hotel rate is the same as expedia or bit more expansive, also no save 12% discount can be used like on Expedia.

Not suggest to book hotel at FC

  • Do they price beat online quotes from the likes of AuntBetty or BYOJET?

    • +1

I went in last week with a quote from PriceBeatTravel for a flight to Japan for ~$1,300. They had to check if that site was genuine or not but they matched it on the same day after calling their authorization centre.

    • +1

Auntbetty is owned by flight centre so they don't price match (I have tried before).

      • I just priced matched with aunt Betty this morning and booked flights, $2265 on AB vs $2600 on FC. I also managed to get them to waive the card fee for amex, even tho AB was gonna charge me $20 for that. And split the total payment on 4 Amex cards

        • Just wondering if you book in-store or over the phone?

          • +1

@birdnw: I did it over the phone

            • @aspirepranesh: Thanks for sharing.

I price matched today. The first store I called said that I have to buy a package on top of the price match price so I just called another store. The second store was able to price match but they needed to confirm that the website that they were price matching did not charge credit card fee.

              • @birdnw: Awesome. Good stuff. This girl forgot to ask me if aunt betty were charging me a fee. In fact, they do. But saved myself a further $20

    • +1

One I have had luck from before is BestJet

  • Thanks @tightarse. You’re the best!!!

  • i am seeing Qantas Syd-HK for less than $500, can i book via flight centre?

    • +1

      add hotel or something else

    • +1

      yes + fees

  • +2

anyone knows if FC sells Japan Rail passes?

    • +1

i want to know this as well, do they price match/ price beat?

      • +4

They do sell and they do price match. We picked them up in March before we went to Japan in May

        • Perfect! where did you pricematch with?

        • Funnily, I am located in Melbourne CBD, I’ve rang 4 FC so far, all told me they can’t price match the Japan Rail Pass…. :(

    • FC indicated A$393 p/p for a 7-day pass… vs online A$354 approx. FWIW

      • +1

They just showed me $2600 for 2 return tickets while their sister site Aunt betty has it for $2265.

Did a successful price match over the phone and paid using 4 AMEX cards!!

  • does anyone have a manual link?

    • +1

It's in the OP when you click on the image …

      • I got an email from Amex this morning and clicked the enrol lick a few hours ago which automatically enrolled that card.

Just went to do the enrolment for my other card manually via the link in the OP and it is now "Unfortunately, the maximum number of Card Members have already enrolled in this offer. Please enjoy the other great offers on American Express Connect"

  • Registrations maxed out :(

  • Registrations maxed out

  • another question, if I do multiple payments, say $500 x2 on the same card, does that mean I get $200 back or still $100?
