    • I tend to find that they are interchangeable for simple to medium complexity deals but I understand what you mean by trying to stick with the same good FC travel agent when you find them as they are useful for when doing those complex air, land and sea with mixed hotels/tours packaged up from various deals.

As an FYI, you might want to mention which city you are from as I'm pretty sure you do not want to know about my FC travel agent from Geelong. :-)

      • Really I don't mind. I do everything by email these days. I never met my travel agent in person haha. It was just my friends friend!

  • Curious with flight centre. Their online system i went to search and their actual store system are different amounts. For example i got $250 one way taipei-melbourne but their system i wanted to book, says $440. So beware of this.

    • Thanks for the alert, so it will be cheaper if you book through the store directly will be cheaper than the online booking.

      • I couldn't book online, forced to go to flight centre store, and hence told me that the price had gone up :(

If there is anyone in Brisbane who would like to redeem this deal and can't sell it on time or don't want the hassle I am happy to pay $400 for the gift card and you can earn your points. Just pm me and we can arrange the rest, thanks.

  • Anyone been able yo buy egift cards online in last couple of days? I tried last night and got the same failed msg. But card has been charged and sitting under pending.

    • Same for me. Couldn’t buy online today and before. Charges showing pending.

      • 1 out of 3 cards worked for me. Cant understand what the problem is!

      • How long does it remain pending? What happens to it after?
I just tried to purchase and also got a fail message.

      • Same as me this morning, got a failed msg but still charging.

Could you let me know have you received the voucher finally or you called them to refund?

    Comment score below threshold?!?

Why did I get all the negatives funny…

    • +1

Probably because it was not a very equitable offer.

      • -1

How come? I did not offer anything unfair…

I actually offered my help to people who want to earn their points but can't sell the gift cards on time so it is win for both sides.

Yes I know a true ozbargainer would resell the gift cards for profit but my plan is to use them for my overseas travel!

        • I advertised a couple on the same basis ie. no mark up.
But the buyer had to pay $500 and when I get the rebate, then they get the $100 rebate back.
Why should I sell for $400 and carry the risk of not getting the rebate? Anyway, there were no takers.

          • -3

@Peck: Why would the buyer carry the risk of you not getting the rebate, when there's no incentive for you to try, or you could just lie and make $100?

More generally, why would anyone knowingly purchase from someone that's not confident of being able to follow clearly defined terms themselves, with the additional risk and incentive for that person to screw over the buyer (as opposed to Amex who have a high chance of taking pity on you even if you're in the wrong)?

This is also a lot more hassle for the buyer even if they take the risk - if you're serious then make the purchase, get the rebate, then sell.

            • @BobLim: And why would I take the risk, when I have no intention of making a profit? I could end up with a $500 gift card for $500 that I can't use. A lot of OzB transactions are taken on trust, and I have never been duped. And so my trust has been well founded! But there is never any guarantee that you will get AMEX rebates - especially for gift cards!

              • @Peck: Generally a transaction won't occur unless both parties get something out of it, so such offers are a little suspicious and would generally be seen as increasing the chance of deceit. Where did you advertise this offer?

                • @BobLim: Don't worry about it. Lots of people on OzB give away AMEX offers that they don't want to use for themselves.

  • Anyone bought e-gift card online in last few days? Tried two cards over two different days and failed.

    • +1

Purchased e-gift cards about an hour ago and went through without a hitch, got the credit email about a minute after. Just waiting for the cards now.

      • Just tried again and got purchase failed again.

      • All cards in your own name and billing details? Browser used?

        • Yeah all in my name with the same billing details, I was using incognito in chrome, didn't have an issue whatsoever. Really weird why you're getting errors!

          • @doweyy: hv u recvd ur cards mate? if, how long did it take?

            • @maverick1: Yep got the cards about 10 minutes ago, took approximately 23 hours.

    • Have made purchases on 7th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 21st and 24th - all have gone without a hitch.

      • All cards in your own name and billing details? Browser used?

        • Chrome. All cards issued in the name of the person ordering.

          • @SydneySwan: Just tried again, and failed . No idea why…

            • @lilkid28: I am on the same boat.

Just tried buying $500 egift card, got message saying purchase has failed.

Called the hotline as instructed, was advised that they will ask their finance department to check and they will call/email me in 2 - 3 business days.

I can see from americanexpress.com.au that the transaction is pending and also received an email saying that I have used my Flight Centre Amex offer…

      • All in 500 denominations?

  • anyone tried purchase e gift card online? always fail

    • Same as me, credit card pending. I called the help centre, they don't know why. They said I can provide the credit card detail and get refund. I think I may wait for 24 hours maybe can get the voucher.

      • strange — my card is not even charged — directly payment page said failure

        • I read the comments above, many customers failed to buy (failed msg) but credit card charged. Don't know whether they received the voucher or not. That should be FC system problems. :(

          • +1

@huhuu77: Tried a few days ago and failed. Called the flight centre next day to get the refund, however, the transaction still pending in my Amex account. I did not receive the voucher.
Tried to buy egift card again just now, used chrome in incognito mode and made two separate transactions with $250 each. Succeeded.

            • @hohohaha: Thanks for your comment, mate.

I will call FC tomorrow morning if I don't get the voucher.

              • @huhuu77: hi mate, just wondering if you got a refund or the voucher was sent to you ?

    • Purchased 7 online. Always succeed. No idea why.

      • Was there any surcharge for buying GC online using Amex ?

        • No

          • @SydneySwan: Thanks for your response

          • @SydneySwan: Hey I placed an order online and got the offer confirmation
            Email.

Though the pending transaction shows as “Flight centre”, the email has the below

Thank you for using Amex Offers with your Card ending in 4xxxx at 647500 TRAVEL GIFT CARDS

Can you pls confirm if it’s the same with you ?

            • @SydOzber: Nothing to worry about - the Amex credit will also come from 647500 TRAVEL GIFT CARDS.

  • Have peeps thought about gift cards’ impact on stacking with complimentary credit card travel insurance? Looking at ANZ’s and Bankwest’s eligibility criteria (other insurance schemes probably have similar conditions), some people in these situations might find themselves failing to trigger complimentary credit card travel insurance.

    1. Prepay a certain threshold amount (ANZ $250, Bankwest $500) using the participating credit card that offers complimentary travel insurance.
    2. Solo travel, short travel, visiting friends or family (therefore not needing hotels) might mean failing the minimum spend condition.

Makes me a bit hesitant as complimentary insurance is worth a bit.

  • has anyone been able to buy it successfully today? I was able to buy 3 yesterday using the incognito mode, but the 4th transaction kept failing..and now I am left with 3 $500 pending transactions which will probably stay on my card for next 5-7 business days until they drop off..any workarounds to buy the GC?

    • I was able to place 3 orders without issues today.
payment failed twice with same card. I see 2 x $500 pending transactions for that card. No Amex trigger email for this card. Hope it gets dropped and can use it before the offer expiry date

      • did you buy using incognito mode or regular?

        • 1 on chrome , 2 on IE
All using different networks(IP), just to make sure that’s not the limitation

  • how long does it take for the egift card to be delivered after the tax invoice ?

    • Usually around 24 hours.

    • +1

after 23 hours 20 mins to be precise.

      • so i guess, once got the tax invoice, meaning we will be getting the giftcard for sure ?

        • correct

          • @SydOzber: Thanks ! Will purchase 2 more by tomorrow..

            • @annielee: Did you buy using private browsing? and which browser? my last 5 transactions have failed..

              • @maverick1: were you putting in a gift card message ?

              • @maverick1: just saw your message, i used incognito brower as suggested by other member and no gift card message, and it went thru..

          • @SydOzber: got my giftcard after 24hours :-)

  • Just tried to purchase and 3 times, got declined by Flight Centre Gift Card website and have 3 x 500 sitting in pending. Also received the email stating the offer was used.

Spoke to Flight Centre and the reason for decline is because Amex declined.

Spoke to Amex and Amex said that all 3 transactions were approved.

Now, Flight Centre Gift Card (guessing outsourced) have escalated the issue to cancel 2 out of the 3 transactions. And Amex Support has been really nice and put a note to honour the last transaction (if it goes through as discussed!)

    What a shonky system.

    • i got 2 failed transaction as well but i didnt call AMEX to rectify as the transaction didnt get thru, so i went to purchase anoher giftcard successfully, no AMEX email, and i thought the credit will come thru eventually, and if it doesnt after 5 days, then i will contact AMEX..

    • I tried to purchase the egift card online too. I also got declined twice by Flight Centre. It took me a few calls to get the charges refunded to my Amex card. I spent so much time on the phone with Flight Centre. I end up go to the shop and pay 0.92% fee and brought the gift card.

  • "Your purchase has FAILED.

If you would like to speak to a gift card customer service team member please call 1300 554 268."
called them up they said they didnt receive funds and that amex would lift the pending after a few days. they couldnt give me a reason why they rejected. i dont know if its worth going to a store this late or trying again online using a different ip and different card and browser.?

    • same here. 5 out of 6 cards went through fine. 1 using chrome and 5 using IE.
The one troublesome card failed multiple times in the last few days and i was told that those pending transactions will be cancelled in few days. Finally purchased the last one using IE. No credit email though. Hopefully all others would be reverted and the credit will come through.

      • how many times did that card get rejected?

        • 3

          • @SydOzber: thanks tried wifes card on different ip first one worked but second failed. might clear cookies and try ie and other ip for mine

            • @coolsteps: coincidentally, even my troublesome card was my wife's card :)

  • Same fail issue with my 2 amex cards.

Did again with 3rd amex but used mobile in incognito mode and it worked.

  • Had to go into a store to purchase the gift cards; as my cards failed online.

Does anyone know if there is anything different from a egift to a store card?

  • Advice from AMEX is to not keep trying to purchase online because technically the 'Pending payments' have been approved by Amex and if Flight Centre somehow manually put through or 're-approve' the transactions, you would have purchased multiple gift cards that according to their FAQ, are non-refundable.

Now just waiting on FC to call back to see what next steps are.

    • Can’t we raise a ticket as those transactions as incorrect

      • I raised a ticket and was advised I will get a call back within 24 hours.

Just hoping they do not misread the ticket and assumed I tried to buy 3x 500 gift cards!

  • only 2 out of 7 worked for me and that was the plat edge using a work tablet with a Samsung browser. oh well i shouldn't have left it too late and dont have time to go into a store now. if FC payment third party wants to play this game i guess ill just take my money elsewhere. now i just have to wait and see what will happen to the 6 pending transactions. hopefully the amex credits will still come through even if the merchant cancels the transaction just like david jones did to me lol.

  • Wasted one hour of my time trying to purchase the gift card online but with no luck. Called FC, and got told to call their gift card customer service, while the GC customer service tells me to call my CC provider saying its my card's problem. There was no problem with my card, even called AMEX to check.
Guess FC isn't getting my money then.

    • +1

try from a different IP using Internet Explorer.
Don't put any message in the card & suggest not to go back(navigate back to top sections) during the check out process
