I don't think this is a particularly good deal, considering Sandy Bridge price range is not that far off.

For example, for around the same price you can get:

    • i5 2410M (better)
    • 1 X 4GB RAM (worse, but cheap to upgrade)
    • GeForce 525M (better I think)
    • DVD+-RW drive (worse)

      use this code TRXK?TQ5RLN84S
for it to be $854 =)

    • Are the problems with sandy bridge fixed?

      • Sandy bridge problems related to SATA ports 3 and above on the chipset. Laptops wth only one HDD only use SATA ports 1 & 2 (1 for HDD & 1 for Optical drive), therefore even if you have one of the faulty chipsets you could never tell in a laptop.

  • The New 15R's with sandy bridge from $699 & $999 with quad core i7 & GT 525m are a much better deal.

  • what in the frig is a Sandy Bridge? Pls dont say a bridge with sand on it. :)

As a non nerd, this looks like its a pretty awesome deal.
but my previous dell was a little rubbish.

    • It's just the name of a new type of architecture for processor, put simply it's the new and faster processor for your computer.

think of it this way: for most computers so far, the processor chip (for maths) is separated from the graphics chip (for drawing)

sandy-bridge puts them together; which makes them a little faster, smaller and easier to keep cool

intel have a history of giving their chips funny names (for example, the core 2 duo series had bearlake)

      edit
Oh, and the laptops are a little rubbish because of the garbage thats pre-installed on them.
the first thing I'd do is get someone to wipe it clean and reinstall a fresh copy of Windows for ya.

      • Mate, that is awesome information. Cheers.
