You are referring to Vodafone, are you not? This offer is for the other "V" - Virgin Mobile.

    • The only dropped calls I've ever had with Virgin were in remote areas with little non-Telstra coverage.

  • i'll have to dig through my drawer and find that unused virgin sim of mine …

Locking your friends into a contract with Virgin would be the meanest thing I could think of doing and not worth $35. I have had 5 major issues with them. And I can't say that without stating them so:

Taking way too long in transferring my number (I having to pay the 2 bills for each carrier), being cut off for reaching my call limit which had been incorrectly set, being incorrectly charged with excess calls because of the previous mentioned, then a another time being charged for excess data usage (which I do not use use) and also being signed up to things that I did not agree to (over the phone whilst I was clearing up another of these matters).

I didn't want to rant but I just thought I needed to back up why I think this isn't a good deal. I won't be negging this deal because it's not the deal but rather it's the company I feel deserve to be negged. Everybody's experience is different and I just wanted to share mine. I suppose those who are considering this offer are with Virgin and will base it naturally on your own experiences. I would never recommend them to anyone even if they were my worst enemy: I couldn't live with myself knowing what they have put me through.

    • no need to connect to contact, prepaid ok.

    • looks like i'm not the only one who had trouble with virgin mobile

After bazza gets his 5…if anyone wants to hook a sister up

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/35221/contact

and then we can become BFF's and talk for an UNLIMITED amount of time, or until my phone battery dies!!!!

  • The $35 credit doesn't get credited straight away, so you will still have to spend upfront money to get the prepaid going.
And the $35 expires after 1 month, which sucks.
Any way to get the benefit of the $35 straight away? Or make it last longer than 1 month, without being tied to a contract?

    • you might be able to top it up before it expires to extend the expiry (like normal credit that is about to expire)

been with virgin and the connection is fine

don't have any issues with them, have been with them for over 3 years!

  • If you do find the Virgin/Optus network to be crap (like I did), you can contact the TIO and get them to bust you out of your contract (like I did). It was pretty easy - I get the impression the TIO/Virgin do it a lot.

Also been with virgin over 3 years, no issues here. If you do need country coverage, spend a few more $$, Telstra is the way to go. I went on a new contract with virgin a couple of weeks ago on the big plan - pretty sweet deal $29 for $450 calls/200mb data + free phone + first 3 months free.

    so basically
    1. get a cheapo non-virgin sim ( lebara or lycamobile )
    2. get referred by a friend and pay you $35(optional)
    3. Switch to virgin and use up your $35 credit( prepaid)
    4. ???
    5. Profit [possibly double if your friend actually paid you the $3]

    • Disregard this I can't read

How many time do you need to repeat yourself?
      Isn't 1 is enough!!!

      • -5

It would be if the anonymous cowards didn't neg my original comment to hide it.

  • How long does it take for the $35 to be credited to the new prepaid account?

I don't intend to be putting any money in it, so I need to rely on the $35 getting in really fast (immediately after porting, or maybe 1-2 days). Is there such a guarantee?

  • And also, is the $35 applied real money, or your plan's "included talk" money (which would be pretty worthless)?

    • you talking contract or prepaid?

      • Both! They each have real money amount, and imaginary money phone amount.

  • does the referral credit apply if i get the new big cap?

    • big cap is contract so I cant see why not

      • Wrong, see the last sentence of fine print: "New customers only, not available on iPhone, Big Cap, or BYO plans."

I was thinking big cap too. In other words, you must go on prepaid, or postpaid 12/24 month contract.
