[XB1, PS4, Switch] Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle - $9 When Trading in 2 Eligible Games @ EB Games

82

Similar deal to Red Dead Redemption II, but with a new Fortnite Bundle - which includes the following:

  • 1,000 V-Bucks ($15 worth) (DLC code)
  • Exclusive Skin, Glider, Pickaxe, Back Bling (DLC code)
  • (only for Xbox One) Physical copy of Fornite Battle Royale. The base game is free on all three platforms anyways.

You’ll need to trade in any 2 Xbox One, PS4 or Switch games that trades in for $10 or more (each) in order to purchase the bundle at $9. Otherwise, it’s $44.95 as is.

Good deal for those wanting to purchase V-Bucks anyways and happen to have old games lying around.

  • The "physical copy" is a download code in a box.

Edit: apparently the Xbox version is on disc?

    • That is a weird way of distributing a game, I’ll edit the post (doing this on mobile is annoying).

      • It's super weird. I didn't understand it when it was announced and I feel like I've come to understand it less as time goes on

        • +1

I’m sure there will be videos of unboxings on YouTube that will confirm all of this.

    • Don't understand why I got negged. Fine print on the deal suggests all are digital except Xbox One copy

  • +4

Amazing what people will pay for what amounts to cosmetic skins for things in a game.

    • $9 for content in a game they didn't have to spend money on? I hope they have a second mortgage!

      • +1

It's not $9 though. It's RRP is $49 and to pay $9 you have to trade in games with a min value of $10.

        • +1

The RRP for Fortnite is free, regardless what they are charging for a physical copy or boxed code.

The only things of any value in this "deal" are the V-bucks and the cosmetics. The V-bucks are valued at $15 and the cosmetics are pretty much worthless because loads of people will have them, making them generic.

There is no value in this as $9 + $20 minimum value for the traded games = $29.

You can download Fortnite for free and pay $15 for the V-bucks separately = $15.

Basically, are the three cosmetics worth $14? I doubt it.

    • Yep. Could've ended up with a PS4 Pro for only $200

  • +6

I fail to see how this is even remotely a deal? Trade two actual, physical games for a couple of virtual coins and some crappy DLC, and you still have to pay $9 for it?

  • You’ll need to trade in any 2 Xbox One, PS4 or Switch games that trades in for $10 or more (each)

So basically games that are pretty much new? You'll get much more than $10 elsewhere. Ends up probably being just as expensive as the $44.95 - it's just disguised the cost.

    • JB hi Fi have much better trade ins compared to EB

    • +1

Check out the Red Dead thread I linked. There are a lot of older games eligible, such as Just Cause 3 and Dead Rising 4.

    • I know it says current gen games only, so this one doesn't apply, but I traded in a copy of Mario Kart Wii the other day, an over 10 years old game mind you, and I got just shy of 20 bucks for it.

I'm not defending any of EB's genuinely bullshit practices, of which there are MANY, but they pay a reasonable price for most things, they're a business, not a charity. Generally speaking, you get about a third of what they sell the game for preowned, it varies here and there, particularly with VERY recent releases, but generally, a third is about what I get.

They sell Mario Kart for 48. They gave me 20 (it was 19 and change, whatever) for it. That's over 40% of what they sell it for, meaning less than 60% of the sale price is actual profit to them. Sounds pretty fair to me.

Getting 10 cents for a 10 year old copy of FIFA is also fair, since they usually sell them for a dollar or so. It's all relative my dude. Sure, they could pay you more, but they could also pay you a shitload less and be left with either taking it to JB, a pawn shop, or risking it on Gumtree. For the convenience they offer, the store space they need to pay for, the people they need to employ, the endless amount of stickers they need to put on your preowned games, and so on, getting 20 bucks for a decade old game on a last gen console, that I didn't even have the cover for anymore, is not bad at all.

      • Still, you are paying a minimum of $29 for the DLC. I guess you can minus off $15 for the vbucks if you were already going to purchase it, making it $14 but at the same time what have you got? Just another skin?

Also I'll just put in here in regards to your other comment that I'm not exactly in to blatantly ripping off kids for profits - most of the time it's their parents paying for it and I'm not sure what their financial situation is.

Btw I've looked through the list and of those listed (XB1) I still would or do play most of them.

        • Look you're not wrong, this is by far the worst of their "trade 2, pay X amount" deals. Red Dead for 29 with 2 games is alright, Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong for the same is alright (though their minimum trade was $5 I believe, either way, I got mine for two old ass Lego games I paid pennies for), but this Fortnite pack all together is an absolute rip. Take off the 15 bucks of coins and you've got 30 bucks for a costume for a free to play game, that's it. It's shit all round.

But that's kind of my point. They'll rip you off, sure, but you'd be a fool to let them rip you off, I only ever use their trades when it's quite advantageous for me.

  • Let's be real.

If you bought this, and put the code up on eBay, some fool would come along and pay an exorbitant amount for it a year from now if these aren't still available.

I feel bad for all the people who ordered Twitch Prime Pack content through eBay for season 5 (or 6, I forget, pack 3 either way). Basically it was a free skin and axe through Twitch Prime and what eBay people would do is make Twitch Prime accounts, then the buyer would email eBay guy their Fortnite login, eBay guy would put them together and then the purchaser has access to completely free content they were too dumb to go get themselves, but anyway, months back when the second pack stopped being available people were taking orders, only 2 or 3 bucks a pop, but with THOUSANDS of people ordering from single sellers when I went and checked, for the third Twitch Prime pack, expected to drop in like July or so, but it never did. It never came.

Imagine thinking you were successful in ripping off hundreds of 10 year olds (not saying grown ups don't play it, I play the game too, I'm more saying only kids seem to care enough to spend actual money on the game) only to have to refund them months later their 2 or 3 dollars, one by one.

Also, the FAQ doesn't mention anything about a physical disc being included, https://wbgamessupport.wbgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/3600020… .. it does however, say it's available only for a limited time, so in regards to my opening point, yeah, I'd buy it, sit on it for a short while, and see if there's decent demand for a code. Worst case, you're out a few bucks, best case, you make a tidy profit for little to no effort.

    • Wow. I had like 30 Amazon accounts. How much were they going for?

      • +1

I didn't look too hard, I was just Googling a few times to see if the third pack had been released and stumbled into the eBayers, but they'd go for around 5 bucks or so on average. Some wanted way more, some wanted 2 or 3, 5ish was the average.

As I'm sure you know, it takes like 3 minutes at most to set up the account. Set up 20 of them in an hour and you've scored a hundred bucks. Just do two hours worth every day for the length of the content's availability (around a month or so IIRC) and you'd have well over 5K.

Not a bad little get, really.

  • This game is free people, FREE! WTF are you doing even considering trading two games in for this?

    • The cosmetic items are not - in fact, they’re generally pricey and are in demand.

      • I am aware of that.

The problem I have is that for the price of $9 plus two games from a limited list, you get $15 worth of virtual currency and three cosmetics that are basically generic skins that loads of other players will have too.

How is there any value in this whatsoever?

Surely those games you need to trade in are going to be worth more than $3 each.

  • This is, like all other EB Games "deals", not a bargain.

At minimum, this deal costs $29 ($9 + at least $10 trade value per game). That's not even taking into account the piss poor trade value that EB Games generally gives.

For that $29 minimum price, you get $15 worth of virtual currency and some skins of questionable value.

By my calculation, you could download the game for free and buy 1000 V-bucks for $15.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but this seems like a ripoff in the tradition of all EB Games "deals".
