Exetel has great value $24.95 for 10GB

    • +4

12 month contract though. The Boost mobile $30 plan is better value IMO.

      • WOW your right ,
        $30 for 23 gb + unlimited (12GB + 11GB BONUS ON FIRST 5 RECHARGES*)

        • Don’t forget it’s 28 days though

          • +2

@drpants: From reading, not if you set up auto -recharge on boost. Makes it 30 days.

    • +1

      runs on optus

Aldi is the best provider for Australians living overseas and still need their Aus number working for 2fa SMS and the occasional incoming call. 365 day credit expiry that you can use to buy a 30 day plan when you visit Australia during the year.
App only works in Aus so need to manage via website.

    • You means Aldi number can roam to overseas and still able to receive Australia SMS oversea without any extra fee and action?

      • +1

Yes and no, ALDI Sim can roam and you can receive SMS, but depending on the country fees can apply to receive SMS (e.g 50cents),at least on the old L plan.

        E.G.

Welcome to Singapore, Cost 1 min call to Aus = $1.0, 1 min call within Singapore = $1.0, receipt of 1 minute call = $1.0, SMS to Australia =$0.5, SMS within Singapore =$0.5,
receipt of of SMS =$0.00, 1MB data =$0.5.

You need to activate roaming on your account

        • I've never heard of them charging to receive an SMS overseas and I travel extensively with this SIM.

          • +1

@7hours 44min ago: I only say that because a while back in canada (before aldi mobile) I thought it was weird that people would get charged to receive even a domestic text there, not sure if still applies though.

      • Yes. It's free to roam and receive SMS.
All other call, SMS and data costs are texted to you when you arrive in the new country.

    • 365 day credit expiry that you can use to buy a 30 day plan

I'm confused… how does this work? (The smallest plan appears to be $15/month, how do you get a year before your number expires?)

      • +2

365 day credit is PAYG/main credit.

The 30-day plan can be considered an add-on (hence why a value pack is forfeited when you decide to buy a data pack) which you can purchase with the PAYG/main credit.

        • +1

Correct. I charge up a hundred or so in PAYG credit each time. I use this to receive the odd phonecall or send an SMS, usually just Skype and WhatsApp on wifi or local SIM.

Just before I fly to Australia, I buy a value pack using the PAYG credit so when I touch down I'm on a 30 day plan.

When I'm not using the SIM, it sits there dormant not costing me anything and I'm still fully contactable.

    • How is this any different to most other networks?

      • +2

Find me another operator that offers the same features as what I've described above and I'll port to them. Must use Telstra 4G network!

  • For reference, the M pack (no longer available) comes with 3GB now

  • +2

awwww i just ported out from Aldi and joined the 365 days catch.com plans

    !@#$

  • +1

Thanks OP! Was considering porting over to Catch Connect for the same price as the S plan, but this has persuaded me to stay with Aldi! Do you know if the extra 500MB will be automatically added mid-cycle or do we have to wait until the next?

  • +2

The rules for data rollover appear very fair:

All unused data allowance in your credit validity period (including any 1GB Data Add-ons) and any and all accumulated rollover data, may be rolled over indefinitely without expiry but only if an equal or higher priced eligible Value Pack is acquired within 24 hours of expiry of the previous Value Pack. Otherwise, unused data and accumulated rollover data are forfeited. A Value Pack's standard data allowance is consumed before any available rollover data

    • +6

only if an equal or higher priced eligible Value Pack is acquired within 24 hours of expiry of the previous Value Pack.

      • +18

Why would you be on a 6GB plan if you only plan to use 500MB a month for 4 months?

        • +2

And why would you think having a large "bank" of data that you paid for but didn't use is a good idea?

Literally throwing money down the drain while they create a disincentive to changing from the provider that is innappropriate by definition if you are paying for data you didn't use because they feel like they're losing something but their money is already lost.

  • IMHO this is still not better than / doesn't yet match the https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/m-value-pack/ (3Gb for 20bucks) for those who don't need a lot of data. When the data is so cheap nowadays, they should have done at least 3Gb for $15..

    • This isnt available to new customers??!

      • Unfortunately, no, but it's similar to this plan https://boost.com.au/shop/20-prepaid/
Don't know how the quality of boost compares to Aldi, maybe people who used both can compare..

        • +1

Boost is better quality than Aldi, it is the only Telstra MVNO with full access to the Telstra network. Aldi and the other resellers have a cut down Telstra Wholesale network.

You can read more details about it here: https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/boost_mobile

        • No data rollover on Boost $20 plan though.

  • I am deciding between lebara or aldi, need expert advice.

    • +5

Lebara is vodafone, not great in some areas.

    • -2

aldi is Telstra Wholesale, not great in some areas.

      • +2

Much much better than vodafone wherever its available. I defiantly agree Voda isnt great in a lot of areas. Work in Southern Cross part of CBD, cannot get any sort of decent reception.

    • +4

Aldi uses the Telstra network, far superior to Vodafone in all aspects (having used both for a few years each).

      • Thank you, I will go with Aldi.

      • +2

Please note that Telstra has TWO services.
Wholesale which is used by Aldi and other resellers. Retail which is ONLY used by Telstra and Boost. Afaik.

  • I understand they use Telstra's network, unsure if they are just on 3G or are they on 4G as well. For some reason, I am only able to get telstra network and nothing else at home and work. Currently with Boost on $40 plan, considering to switch to Aldi on $30 plan. Thanks

    • +5

      Of course 4g,even 4g+

    • +1

Yep I'm the same - only good reception for me is with Telstra. I moved from Telstra to Aldi Mobile in May and access to the network has remained the same. So much cheaper that Telstra too!

    • Boost brought out some good value cheaper plans not too long ago, check this page and scroll to the bottom https://boost.com.au/plans/

You may find the $20 or $30 plan is a good fit. The $30 Boost plan is certainly better value than the $35 Aldi plan if you don't care about international.

      • Actually I need international calling as well. Hence my options are limited

        • +1

I think international calls are a bit of a racket as surely these days it's all routed through VoIP anyway. May as well cut out the middleman and just use WhatsApp, Line, Viber, Skype or similar app for free voice chat.

  • Aldi is the best if you want data + telstra network + Internstional calls.

    • +1

      Belong too.

  • Does anyone know if they support RCS? or visual voicemail on Android?
I'm with Telstra now and I get both. (Only works on certain Samsung and Pixel devices ATM)

but saw people mentioning Boost has the same support as a result of their alliance with Telstra. Just ordered a sim from Boost with the Cashrewards deal.

I'm keen to switch to ALDI after boost if they support Visual voicemail. But there's no good info out there.

    • +1

No visual voicemail. Was on Telstra and now Aldi.

  • Great thanks OP. Will be dropping back to L pack next month

  • I usually buy a one year plan so to I can use the data any time during the year (especially during holidays without wifi hotspot).

The new data rollover seems to be as good.

  • It also used to only allow data banking up to 30gb, but this seems to be unlimited now.

  • +4

I'm currently with Aldi, but considering Belong for 2 main reasons:

    1. Belong has a $10 plan with data banking, min with Aldi is $15.
    2. Belong has data gifting - you can buy data for cheap during sales. Aldi doesnt have this concept.

Bonus 3: as user 'tg' posted above, moving to a lower plan forfeits your accumulated data. No such condition on Belong.

If you are after a $10 plan with data rollover and gifting, belong is the way to go. Both are telstra wholesale btw.

    • +1

Very interesting - I just took a look and like it - you missed another benefit that I spotted:
Top up your data with 2GB for $10.
So that's double the data for $10 over Aldi…..

    • But it's 1gb vs 2gb right? I have to check my data usage before diving in

    • +7

With Belong, you can "top up" data by getting a free Belong SIM and gift the data over and get $20 referral credit at the same time.

      Eg.
      Get a free SIM
Activate with your referral code (you get $20, this free SIM gets $20)
      Activate with $10 1GB plan
You get 2GB in first month ($10 credit used, $10 left) for the new SIM
You get 1GB in second month ($10 credit used, $0 left) for the new SIM
Gift 3GB to your SIM and cancel the free SIM

Result of the data "top up"
You get $20 and 3GB for free :)

    • +2

Belongs small 1GB plan is very interesting, you can add unlimited international calls & texts to more countries than the ALDI offer for a total of only $15 (the country I need is included in Belong, but not in ALDI).

    • +2

with Belong, if you exceed your 1 GB cap-limit,
your speed gets throttled (i.e. made slow), but not charged extra.
so, you can still check E-mails or surf painfully slow
(forget video or other data-hungry services)

  • Please note that
    1. Locked Telstra prepaid phones will not work with Belong/Boost/Aldi, even Belong/Boost/Aldi uses Telstra network
    2. Unlocked Optus/Vodafone prepaid phones might not work with Belong/Boost/Aldi, if the handset does not support 850 Mhz and only supports 900 Mhz

    • Is this correct? My wife's Telstra locked Samsung A20 works fine with a Boost sim. Did we just get lucky?

  • What in the world they can name their 6GB plan "large (L)"? What year are we in now, 2015?

  • What is continuous rollover and how is it different to what it was in the past?

    • It used to be capped at 30GB

  • If currently on Aldi will we transition onto the new plan?

    • It appears so - my son's M plan (discontinued for new customers) went up from 2.5GB to 3GB at no extra cost (same $20). Cheers.

  • -1

Aldi are the best, as always.

    • Not in mobile Im afraid

  • Kogan is always better value

    • Only if Vodafone suits you

  • Wow unlimited calls to Italy on L plan. Tempted to move to this at the end of my Kogan plan
