  • Have this rice cooker and am very happy with it. Paid $85 a few months ago which was the best price I could find at the time, so this seems like a good deal.

    • review says very slow with normal cooking.whats the rice like using fast cooking?

      • +1

normally the high end rice cookers are slow for better taste, we have a Tiger rice cooker from Japan, it takes nearly an hour for the best result, you will find the cheap cookers are all fast cooking

      • About 45 min with normal mode

      • Couldn't comment on the quick cook option, never tried it. Like the other poster said, about 40 - 45 minutes on normal mode for 3 cups of rice.

        • I've got one too, been pretty happy so far! Takes about half an hour for 1 cup of white rice. Brown rice took like 1.5 hours tho?? Have you face this issue before?

          • +1

@roby21: Never tried with brown rice

          • +2

@roby21: Brown rice needs to soak for 45 mins before cooking. That's all it's doing for the first 45 mins. So if you have pre-soaked your brown rice or don't believe in soaking brown rice, you can just cook it like normal rice.

          • +1

@roby21: Yeah I have a way cheaper cooker and for brown rice it takes ages.

            Comes awesome everytime though.

If you like your rice, 100% worth.

  • +2

this is a pretty solid rice cooker for those who dont want a mushy mess from the big w rice cookers but dont want to spend $200 bucks on it.

  • Have this rice cooker, very happy with it.

    • +1

does it always burn or rice sticking under the pot? thx

      • It doesn't burn or stick for me when i do add water accurate.
Never had burn but it do get sticky, when i forget how many cups i have already poured into and lazy to redo the process.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, ordered.

    Looking forward to fluffy rice

  • +3

Probly one of the cheapest fuzzy logic type rice cookers you'll find. Makes a significant difference compared to the cheapies.

  • Torn between this and one of the $300+ fast/slow style all in one cookers

  • +1

I have this rice cooker. It cooks great rice and is easy to operate but it does not beep when the cooking has finished. If I was buying a rice cooker now I would choose one with the beeping function.

  • +3

I have this cooker, it is good for the price, the only issue with it is it doesn't have steam collection attachments normally found with attached lid rice cooker so excess water build up around the edge of the lids and as soon as you open the lid up it will drip outside, some water also remain at the top of cooker body too so have to wipe it off every time.

    • +2

Agreed. I have this cooker and the water is the most annoying part. Other than that, the cooker does a good job. After a few years of daily use, the non-stick layer of the bowl has started peeling off even I always treat it with care. I called Panasonic and its distributor and found out buying a new bowl actually wasn't much cheaper than a whole new cooker.

  • Torn between this and getting another $29 kambrook basic one which had served me well for more than 7 years until it broke down.

Oh darn. $12.90 postage. Makes it $84 for me.

Is the rice really that much better with this or rice quality is more important anyway?

    • not enough to warrant it imo

      • Thanks. Could you elaborate if don't mind?

        • +1

have always used cheaper $40 ones with basic functions and stuck to jasmine rice mostly ….it seems same result and in thailand that’s all we used just a basic one …also this is very big and takes room up in kitchen. if your a big family and keep rice warm for long periods it does that well with this panasonic one.
ps.this is very cheap so buy it if you got room and cook big batches

          • @kamoy: Ah thanks. It's helpful. Leaning on getting another basic one because the last one serve me well and I'm only cooking for one or two usually. I guess I was just excited at idea of getting fuzzy tech rice cooker rather than really need g it. If postage was free or for a smaller version I might actually jump on this.

          • +2

@kamoy: Yeah 10 cup rice cookers are huge. only good for large families or people ho eat rice with every meal. There's a smaller 5 cup version available

            https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Panasonic-SR-DF101WST-5-Cup-…

    • I have a $20 kambrook and it is pure rubbish. Rice stuck to the bottom every time. Finally got rid of that piece of junk!

      • agree, i had one with those detachable lids, I've found those don't seal in properly to make dat good rice!

        • Yeah it does not seal well.. at least not as great as expensive ones..but the rice is fine. Admittedly I had better rice in Japanese restaurants but I'm not sure if that due to fuzzy logic rice cooker or the quality of rice itself. I usually just buy sunrise rice

          • @Jared17: yeah japanese use koshihikari medium grain rice (which is available from sunrice, as it turns out..) but they also prepare it with care. If you ever want to cook a nice aged basmati or sticky rice or anything you're remotely picky about.. or if you stuff up your timing for a meal and want to leave a batch on the "keep warm" setting while you finish cooking the other dishes, the panasonic will make a difference.

            • @simulacrum: Thanks. Will keep that in mind. Might try the koshihikari sunrice if it's available. Dun see it at my local Coles though.

          • +2

@Jared17: yeah i bought a 30 dollar kambrook before and returned it after using it once. the rice it cooks is hot garbage

      • That's true but I find if I scoop the bottom rice up shortly after its done all is fine. Besides, If it sticks at the bottom I usually leave soak water for a hour and it washes off easily.

For $19 when I bought it on discount, it's really value for money. I used it to reheat stuff and even boil eggs and noodles. It was a champ for me for 7 years.

    • +1

I replaced an ex housemate's basic kambrook with a five cup version one of these when I moved in and it made a big difference. I noticed with his old kambrook was there seemed to be a hot spot in the middle that sometimes scorched the rice, because it ran on a basic thermostat which meant the temperature fluctuates quite wildly. The other difference was the quality and thickness of the inner rice container and the non-stick coating.. this may be because he didn't take care of it the way one should take care of nonstick coated things, but to me the quality difference was tangible. in the Panasonic the consistency of the rice is even throughout and I've never scorched the bottom, even leaving the cooked rice on the keep warm setting for long periods of time.

      • Maybe it's just me then but I never really noticed any bad quality cooked rice with my kambrook but I guess maybe cuz i never tried the more expensive rice cookers. Either that or my standard for rice is low even though I have eaten rice daily growing up lol.

But yeah the bottom layer rice will stick to the pan if you dun scoop it up shortly after rice is cooked.

    • "For some reason, the coupon is working for my order. :((("

      Oh no poor you.

      • money out of pocket,no excuse.sorry.

You have the worst grammar I have ever seen.

    • LOL I meant to say that the coupon does not work for me. :(
"This code can't be applied to your order."

  • Great deal but I had this rice cooker before and after using it everyday for the last year. The rice started burning/brown at the bottom. Happens alot to the cheaper pots if you use it alot.

I personally would buy a more expensive tiger from bing Lee (good guys don't seem to have it) when they have a sale which I did last time and haven't regret it.

    • my $20 kambrook don't stick.
my mother in law will make the most expensive non stick pan stick.
my suggestion,1:never scrub it with scotch, smooth surface is the key.2:turn off the power soon as it's done.3:soak it in water for 10,20min before wash,I soak it soon after all rice served up,“be water my friend”—Bruce Lee https://youtu.be/jQPS8tpXFnY 2:38 if you can't wait

  • -1

10 cups of rice, that's a lot of rice! 1 cup feeds a family of 4 with leftovers.

    • +3

rice cup!not pastry cups.1cup is good for 1 adult I'd say,or not much left over.

  • Does it come with a steam tray/bowl?
Can it be used for steaming?

    • Yes it does. You get the steaming basket, rice spoon and measuring cup (180mL) in addition to the rice cooker.

    • not sure,I just bought one, will let you know once I pick it up.

  • +1

    Postage AU $16.68 :-(

  • How does this compare to that cheapo, Breville 8 cup rice cooker (BRC200 it was, I think)? Is this worth the extra cost? Bought the Breville from TGGs deal back in December 2016 and it's working fine, using it about once every week or two weeks.

    • if you are happy, why replace?there will be better deal when your one go broke.
to your question,do youknow tiger rice cooker?I want one,but couldn't justify the $,done some search, this seems can do similar perfect rice without some fancy functions.fyi,$89 is the same price as TGG panasonic 5cup model atm.was $109 with %20 off last sale,I almost bought one.Now I just bought one.

      • A good point. It's just that I cook rice in every week or so, and would have purchased this if the quality of rice is way different. Probably will keep using the Breville for the foreseeable future and get the tiger if I ever find it on sale. Cheers

  • +1

Cooks perfect rice even if rice:water ratio is abit off. Great price that.
Quiet, easy to clean, compact, housemates loves it.
Been using cheaper non-fuzzy-logic types previously where the rice we cooked were either too dry or too lumpy. Recommend this or the 5 cup one for a budget fuzzy rice cooker.

    • 5 cup one is same price $89@TGG ebay
      10 cup was $109 @TGG last %20 off sale

    • +1

thanks…didn't know there's a five cup model. Think I will wait for a deal on that.

      • +1

yeah 10-cup rice cookers are yuge, as the president would say.

  • Made in Japan?

    • -1

      of course not

    • If you want a Japanese made cooker you'll need to buy Tiger brand for around $300.

  • If anyone can offer up a little advice it would be much appreciated. I currently cook my rice in a pot on the stove. Is a cheap $20 going to yield better results? or is something like this deal worth snapping up? TIA.

    • +2

      no comparison.
but depends on whats your standard.
I've been to some buffet restaurant where rice is half cooked and it still sells.
but if you grow up eating rice, this is the shit.
this is not just good rice cooker vs regular,it's also Panasonic vs some no name.
if you can't afford Tiger, you will find this CHEAP.

    • $20 ones don't last very much and don't have some of the best benefits of rice cookers (ie you can't leave the rice on "keep warm" while you cook something else without scorching the bottom or overdrying the rice).

I'd probably consider this the bottom of the range that you should consider when buying rice cookers. Otherwise there's just no point.. you can cook good rice in a pot, a decent rice cooker just adds a lot of convenience and frees up stove space without compromising the quality of the final product. If you look up some of the induction heated or pressurised ones by Tiger or Cuckoo (or some of the japanese domestic market panasonic models) you'll see they can get a LOT more expensive.

      • I haven't had that experience with the cheap cookers. I guess I've been lucky. Just bought a new one after several years. $14 at K-Mart.

Have you ever heard the expression "you get what you pay for"? It's wrong. It should be "at most, you get what you pay for". Which is why sometimes expensive things are pure garbage and cheap things actually do the job when you weren't expecting them to (based on a previous experience with a similar cheap rubbish product). Knowing this can save you a bit of money. Look for reviews for the model if it's a significant spend. Otherwise if something cheap will do, spin the wheel, buy from somewhere reputable and keep your receipt.

  • thanks! got one. Our Midea cooker seems to be on its last leg.

  • I have cooked prefect most healthy rice using just a daiso $2.80 claypot without an electric rice cooker. But if you want hassle free rice cooking an electric one is indispensable. Sorry I just make it harder to decide. lol.

  • Vouch for Panasonic rice cookers! Fuzzy logic technology makes good rice

  • +1

Nothing against the deal, but purchased a Heller electric pressure cooker with 6L capacity and a stainless steel inner bowl for $94.62 this morning: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HELLER-6-Litre-Stainless-Steel-P…

I've one of these, and I highly recommend it if you need a larger pressure cooker and care for a stainless steel bowl (as opposed to an aluminum bowl).

It's about $23 more, but is better value in my opinion.

  • Unsure if anybody knows but Kmart have them.

    I bought this one specifically - https://www.kmart.com.au/product/10-cup-digital-rice-cooker/…

    Very happy with it.

Not as fancy as others but does the job for me.

I cook brown rice with it and it comes great everytime.

Comes with a steam tray to steam up some veggies at the same time (Normally chuck in a potato as they take ages too cook)

    • I just bought this over the other day, and it's worth every cent. My dad is really picky about rice and he happy with this one. I'm about to buy kmart air fryer too.

    • Do they have a smaller version? Can't seem to find it on their website

    • this is even cheaper,$29.97,ends 04/Nov
      10 cup.

  • +1

i had this rice cooker and it was so freakin sh*t. very very slow cooking. seems like it turned off early cos rice was always soggy but not cooked yet. harder to clean than other cookers.
threw it out. $10 kmart ones are better

source: im an expert rice cookin asian.

  • this neat little thing has served me well for the past 4 years and still going strong :)

  • Thank you OP, very well rated by Choice and good price
    Cheers

  • Anyone having problems applying the code?

    • "This code can't be applied to your order." Something is going on here.

  • Enlighten me.. Why some rice cookers like Tiger cost 200-300 while this one is less than 100? Does the rice cooked with expensive ones taste better or what?

    • If you think all coffee machines are the same then you probably won't appreciate good rice cooker as well.

    • the expensive cookers made in Japan do make a difference cooking the rice, but i would say the rice itself makes the real difference, try rice imported from Japan and you will see, the rice also expensive though

    • just make sure the pot has multilayer coated, trapped heat well etc. otherwise you'll end up "burning" some part of the rice in the bottom when the top part is ok fluffy.

  • I collected my rice cooker today, I took it out of the box and used it for the first time for tonight's dinner. As I am cleaning it after using it,I notice that the rice cooker says SR-DF101 on the top front. That is the code for the 5 cup rice cooker. I have been given the wrong product. I have messaged them to see what they say.
