This has the Max Q 1070 BTW similar in performance to the full laptop 1060. At higher settings the 1070 max Q will be slightly ahead of the 1060 thanks to more cuda cores but in ultra higher frame rate low settings the extra clock speed of the 1060 edges it ahead. Thermals are apparently very similar.

According to notebookcheck.net - "Fortunately, the performance loss is not quite as great as with the GeForce GTX 1080 (Max-Q). In the 3DMark 11 and Fire-Strike, the ROG Zephyrus M is about 10% faster, though the still high results of the Aero 15X make it a great gaming device as well."

      "The Witcher 3 - 1920x1080 Ultra Graphics & Postprocessing (HBAO+) - Asus Zephyrus M GM501GeForce GTX 1070 (Laptop), 8750H - 59.4FPS, Gigabyte Aero 15X v8 GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q, 8750H 52.4 fps"

Interesting, heres a review i'm referring to from Jarrod'sTech his reviews are fantastic it's very underrated channel, highly recommended for someone in the market for a new laptop.

Hard sell imo with the ~$1500 Asus refurb. I know this is a much more attractive form factor, but ~$1000 difference, that could bring up your upgrade cycle by a year.

    •

What $1500 Asus refurb you talking about?

I believe he's talking about this

anybody else's machine going crazy hot with CPU at max speed when visiting the notebookcheck aero 15 review page?
    cheers

Not really related, but I'd recommend MobileTechReview on youtube, she does pretty comprehensive and objective laptop reviews, and IIRC this model has some ventilation issues where a fan actually did not have access to outside air and was just spinning for nothing.

Not to dissuade others from buying this, hoping that the more recent release had bios and system updates - but I bought this laptop in April this year am currently sending it back to gigabyte for full rebuild due to significant colour accuracy (complete fail in the black representation of the spectrum) and performance issues.
Its cooling solution is sub par, though it has great specs, it struggles mightily even when using around 20% RAM, just when web browsing. God forbid when you try to use it for design or video editing.
Further cooling inefficiency wise, nearing 100% fans when changing windows from Google chrome to excel - stuttering and frame rate dips. Shouldn't be happening with 16gb RAM and a 6 core CPU. Looking around, the issues I have experienced are not an outlier though.
It has all the parts of a killer desktop replacement yet feels rushed.

Good deal. You can get a better one with the HP Omen 2018 model, 2299 minus 10% with proper10 or 5% with 5off. Same specs, 8750h, Max Q 1070, 144Hz IPS G-Sync Screen. (search ebay for 4TK00PA)

  •

This is a decent deal too + peartree: for $2639.20, you can get a 4k version of this (AERO15-1070-BK82P) with a AORUS K9 RGB Gaming Keyboard and a Corsair Void Pro Gaming Headset bundled together.
    here

Otherwise $2374.40 for the Gigabyte Aero 15 GTX1060 with the same bundle here

4K is very impractical for both gaming and working for such a small screen due to the alignment of LCD screens.
