That's expensive compared to what you can get just very recently.

    • Just 2 x USB 2.0 and 2 x USB 3.0 so it’s also lacking a bit of connectivity.

I guess it's a good alternative if people don't want to buy from AExpress though?

But for a n97 over 200 seems expensive? Or am I crazy in thinking that.

I feel like a 8500T refurb is a better unit but ultimately older/may not support whatever windows version is next blah blah right.

My parents have a 6500T and it keeps halting windows updates despite being on Win11 already (workaround) because it's not officially supported lol. Wanted to get them an N150 unit but need something built well/for longevity..

      • Has Microsoft started halting updates on unsupported Win11 generally??
I've not heard about this before (even though it is to be expected at some point)

Or is it just something you have noticed on this particular PC??

        • I have same issue for a while, it's not isolated that Windows 11 updates stop on unsupported (processor) devices that were installed using a work-around.

          • @Dice: Ok, google tells me that you will monthly updates but not version updates, i.e., 23H2, 24H2,
But you can use Rufus to upgrade from say 23H to 24H without wiping the machine.
Who knows what happens after October 14, 2025

@nige0090: Oh really. I can use Rufus to update the version, didn't know that one.. Will have to maybe give it a try but it's a pain to manage this for my parents.. They're pretty tech illiterate lol. It's not really something I wanna spend time doing, would rather setup a supported machine that can auto update!

@ReaperX22: In your scenario I would also go for a supported machine.
Less hassle/risk for minimal extra expense.

                • @nige0090: Yeah definitely. They've given me a 200 budget for a new machine lol. But because it's also for them, I don't reallyyyy wanna buy from AE in case there are issues. I'd rather get something local.

  • What's a good higher end Mini PC for home business use. No gaming but want it quick to do all the browsing spreadsheet and some video editing. Something with at least 32gb/1tb

Beelink and minisforum tend to be the go to for that

  • N97 is an excellent chip, but this has been cheaper with GMKTec although only 12GB. $179 I got this for:

LPDDR5 RAM plus an extra USB 3 port. Much better value at that price.

Compared to GMKtec G2 Mini PC with Intel N100, W11 Pro, 12GB DDR5, 512GB SSD US$87.92 (~A$134) Delivered @ GMKtec Office AliExpress, this is quite expensive.

    • N100
    • DDR5
    • Dual NIC
    • 35% cheaper

It has expired now, but these deals are not uncommon.

    • N97 slightly faster

  • What is a good option for steam os with support for egpu ?

    • +1

Anything AMD that specifically calls out Occulink, or any recent Intel that has Thunderbolt port support.

  • This should be around 150?

Will wait for ddr5 and wifi6 deal.
