I was waiting for that comment. No NFC either (like most tablets) but there is a headphone jack!

No NFC either (like most tablets)

I'm typing on a tablet from 2013 that have NFC and wireless charging. What happen to the 2018 tablets?

        • +7

          (like most tablets)

        • What tablet is that?

I'm not even sure the iPad has wireless charging. Typically that's reserved for phones. 10" tablets are a bit too big for the chargers that stand up.

  • No NFC

  • Joke aside, I think this is a good tablet and a good price. Can make call?

    • The tablet won't do phonecalls over 4G unfortunately.

  • You're probably better off getting it for $449.10 from https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Pad-4-Android-Tablet/1… (code: PROPER10) with support in Australia

  • Any links to review? I cant seem to find any 10.1 review on youtube

    • Search for "Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Plus review" and you'll find plenty on YouTube.

      • ok, thanks. I was looking for "Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 10.1"

Tech tablets is a kiwi guy who lives in Spain he does great reviews anyways he loves the Mi pad 4 and 4 plus. His reviews are on YouTube.

  • Can this play netflix?
is this a global version? oh…probably not, it doesn't include google play.
So any instruction to install google play?

    • +3

Xiaomi Mi Pads don't have the correct DRM so they're limited to 480p. I covered the part in the description about Google Play, you need to sideload it.

Xiaomi.eu have a custom unofficial ROM for the Mi Pad 4/Plus that includes Google Play and OTA that can be sideloaded.

May need to negotiate a better price:

Mi pad 4 plus 64gb for $275usd (inc GST) from JoyBuy

    • +5

Might be worth its own post?

I enjoy reading the reviews at JoyBuy:

It's straight in a month, of course not fast. The tablet's great, it's on the tape, it's not hidden.

It's fine, it's 40 days. I'm waiting for the sewing.

      Magic.

Maybe, I haven't posted it as such as it looks like it 2ill be even cheaper (albeit marginally) on singles day (11/11) via aliexpress.

        • Good spot, there's one there for about $270 USD.

    • Joybuy had the 8" LTE version for about $320 AUD delivered a few days ago.

Hi Clear! Could you please try to do one for the 8 4/64? That would be awesome. Thank you!

Slap on apple logo, these will be bargain at $1500

  • Why this over the $300 lenovo tab 4 from Officeworks with Australian warranty, ebay coupons + cash rewards?

    • SD 660 vs SD 625.
      3GB vs 4GB,
16GB (of which only ~8 is available) vs 64GB
Xiaomi might have a custom skin but they do keep them updated.
      LTE

I was in love with the Tab 4 Plus. Got one from Officeworks a few months ago. Great design and build, however only having 16GB of onboard memory, of which only around 8 is available to the user made the device near useless to me. SD card support you might ask? For some reason Lenovo's of recent have a SD card problem where after a reboot the card is not recognized and you lose you data, plus have to reset the tablet. It was a horrid mess. Gave it to my dad who only uses it for media consumption.

LOL I don't know what happened to my comment. I didn't post any affiliate links.

Your Indiegogo Link had your referral ID attached to the end of the URL.

        • Hi Richard.

Why would that classify as a affiliate of me? It's a product page, how can I post a Indiegogo link for a product?

          • @Zylam Marex:

how can I post a Indiegogo link for a product?

Remove the numbers at the end of the Indiegogo Product URL.

  • That DRM is the only thing holding me back from this. Can't believe Xaomi don't include it I can't imagine it would cost much extra to produce?

    • Not much at all. They didn't include it for the Poco originally but with enough popularity they added it :)

      • Oh really I didn't realise they'd added it to the poco! There is hope then haha

        • Just double checked. As of 2 weeks ago Xiaomi were working with Google and Qualcomm on bringing Widevine L1 to the Poco. It hasn't been released yet.

China has their own streaming services. Although I don't think the content creators get paid at all. I think they're like paid pirated services .Could be wrong

  • Hey Clear, really close to pulling the trigger on this but still a little confused about the global rom and ota updates
Someone replied to me saying yes on updates but reading other comments it was a "no"
Also with Google Play Store will there be compatibility issues or permissions needing to be set up over and over after say a firmware update?

    • +1

The included ROM will not have OTA but xiaomi.eu supposedly have a custom ROM they built with Google Play already included and OTA.

  • I'm seeing prices of 260 or 270 usd from aliexpresd for 11.11 sale. Got to add gst though.

  • @clear is there a wifi only version?

    • Not for the Plus. Only 4G + WiFi.

  • Hmm got an aging Samsung S2 8" and wondering if this or the new iPad 2018 (basic not pro)..
Mainly for video consumption and editing photos.

    • Price for performance wise, apple wins in tablets nowadays. If you're fine with their ecosystem and iTunes.

Android is alot easier importing/exporting media though.

  • No fast charging for this tablet. it will be painfully slow to charge such a big battery using a 10w charger. The screen is pretty meh, 1080p for 10 inches screen. No thank you.

    • There's really not much choice in the android market. Spend $100 more for the mediapad m5 which is probably the best mid spec tablet with a 2k screen. Next one would be the thousand dollar S4

      • sadly yes, I'm very happy with my tab s4. but too expensive

  • Waiting for cheaper deals on 11/11!

  • Doesn't support google play? Thats a paddlin

Does it suppprt foxtel go similiar to lenovo tablets not doing enabling access?

  • Any deals on the plus 128gb version?
