Thanks OP, bought 4 and I don't even live in Taiwan

  • Whoa. Isn’t the bullet train in Japan like $300?

  • +4

For that price in Sydney, you couldnt even get the bus around the corner.

    • yes you can, if you're a student or with pension

  • normally the tickets From North (Taipei) to South (Tainan or Kaohsiung) are about $75-$50 AUD

    • (Tainan or Kaohsiung) are about $75-$50 AUD

It still is on the link… you need to scroll down…

  • How is it possible that you guys can book through to March 2019, when I can't even book any Chinese new year dates (ie. 03/02) until 17/1 on Taiwan's HSR website?

    As stated here - https://www.thsrc.com.tw/tw/News/Detail/16673321-5e82-49f3-9…

Actually ignore me, that was 2018, but the point still remains because I can't book anything past 06/12/18 right now?

Oh it should say in the post that its valid for foreigners and not ROC citizens.

    • Yeah for stupid reasons you can't book more than a few weeks ahead. It's really frustrating. Korea is the same.

    • Because we have a good long-term cooperation partnership with THSR, our members can book THSR tickets via KKday before anyone else

  • Do not risk your life with Taiwan train!!!!!!!! There are about 2 off rails accidents there every year.

    • Thanks. In fact, Taiwan Railways and Taiwan High Speed Rail are different railway systems. Taiwan High Speed Rail adopts Japanese technologies and is safer and faster.

      • +2

Japanese trains and French tracks, best of both worlds.

      • You didn't answer the question above.

    • Oh ok.

What about Australian car crashes? How many crashes are there every year?

    • +3

The one you are referring to is the Taiwan rail (unsafe) which is like our trains or subway for the US.
This is high speed rail which is like the bullet train (shinkansen).
      2 different systems.
      Obviously different trains and tracks.

      • Thank you for adding that!

  • I got tickets with the Klook app when I went, similar pricing from memory. Did the entire length of the country and back, in half a day.. just because it was so cheap to do and a similar trip in Japan would be into the hundreds of dollars.

Can I just say so love you.

Going to Taiwan for Christmas and this is super handy. will book all my tickets over the weekend.

    • Glad to help!

Have a nice trip! Welcome to Taiwan :)

  • Wow, not a single political TW vs China comment yet. The OZB community is growing up finally. Well done everyone.

    • +1

Bargains win over politics…. unless you talk about Gerry

    • TW for life…!

      China add oil!

      中国加油!

  • Just be aware that it is possible to book fares at 35% off directly with Taiwan HSR. Generally only at the less popular times, unless you are willing to book at the start of the booking window (ie midnight Taiwan time)

  • +2

Will be in Taiwan around Christmas to bike around the island so I totally don't need this… but I mmay just take the train down and up again just to grab the bargain :P
