DJI Tello Drone $128 (Free Shipping or C&C) @ Officeworks

720

Hi Ozbargainers,

It's my first post so please be gentle.

DJI Tello Drone is on sale for $129 @Officeworks, including free delivery or C&C making it the cheapest I've seen so far. I haven't tried but maybe you can price match in other stores.

It's a great drone for an entry in terms of price and quality. Also, it only weighs 80g, which is below the restriction weights of most countries, thus can fly in more places.

DJI FLight Battery for Tello Drone is also on sale for $18 but not available online, you can get it in store if your store has stock.

Update 26/11: Price lowered to $128

Then it would be cheaper on Amazon with Cashrewards or shopback.

    • Thanks for pointing it out, just grabbed one free shipping for $117 after cash rewards!

      • Technically 114.81

        • Yes, why yes you are correct

          Even better!

    • $165.00 now on Amazon

      • +1

Bugger. Just got home to buy it and saw it as 165 as well. Raging right now.

  • Are these as easy to fly as the DJI Mavic Pros?

    • Almost, they can at times have a slight drift to them but they are more designed for indoor use or close range outdoors with not wind.

    • No way close.

    • And even easier to lose :D

    • Have a look at some YouTube videos- the tello is very well rated, even outside…but it is still in the toy category, not a prosumer drone like a mavic or phantom.

      • +2

No. A toy category is very much like that toy helicopters that do not stay still or aligned to anything from the markets for $20. The Ryze is closer to the mainstream as it keeps its position and is much easier to fly without manually keeping it up all the time.
It is the lower end of the drone market but the cheapest way to get to learn how to fly a proper one when you upgrade to a Spark or Mavic.

Great first post. Here is to the first of many. :) Thank you.

Kind of sad how everyone with a first post feels the need to say to be gentle (nothing against you OP). Take a look at yourself ozbargain!

    • +5

It is, it's like massive downvotes happen and someone says it's not a deal. People are rightly scared - perhaps the rating system needs to change

    • +4

My first post. Some dick told me to have a spine, not to beg for people to be kind and said I was a sad little person XD @Seedy Seed

    • +4

Yeah. Agreed. <3 you ozbargain but would be great to see an eventual evolution to us all being nicer to each other. There are some brutal moments here for sure. I'm guilty of the whole 'nuh, I won't post that I'll get slammed'. Less butthurt. More bargains, we are all on the same team. Would be great to think noobs wouldn't feel apprehension and posting deal number 1, or deal 1000 for that matter. :), GOOOooo ozbargain!

  • Good deal! I bought one of these recently and it's a fantastic practice drone.

    • How’s the photo quality?

      • Good clear photos outdoors on a sunny day. Like in a cheap android phone I guess.

  • +6

I purchased the Tello last year based on advice on Ozbargain forums and cannot be any happier with it. It basically flies itself. I also got a cheap VR and paired it with a controller. Now I can fly around with first person view, all for around $200. It's amazing for a first drone.

    • do you have any more info on the VR & controller?

      • The controller is Gamesir t1 - I got it together with the drone from camerasdirect. It connects and works perfectly. The VR I got for $29 from ebgames. It was stealthlvr I think, but I suspect any vr headset would do. It’s basically a shell where you put your phone, so it’s your phone that connects to the tello via the tello app.

  • +3

Controlling with the phone is fine. Get a cheap wifi extender (<$10) to really increase its range and video quality. Can handle a bit of wind and is very sturdy. Great price for something which is so much better than ANY other toy drone.

    • +1

Please could you advise the range extender compatible for this.

      • +2

I got a xiaomi wifi 2 (or something like that) off ebay. I don't think you need any specific type- just any wifi extender.

      • +2

There is also a free easy to use app to change the ceiling height from 10m to 30m (quite high for such a small drone). You only need to use it once.

        • You can do that within the Tello App, no need for a separately one.

    • How do you use the wifi extender? link to your phone or what? Sorry have absolutely no clue why an extender can be useful here when you fly the drone outdoor.

      • +1

The tello uses wifi for the control and video signal, phone-drone. That direct connection doesn't have a large range. A wifi extender connects as a bridge between the phone and drone, phone-extender-drone, giving a much better range. Have a look at some YouTube videos for a better explanation and you'll be able to see the difference.

  • Yup I bought this for 127 on good guys eBay when they had 20 percent off. 120 ish seems to be the new normal price not 169.

  • Free next business day delivery too, thanks for the deal

  • Still waiting for a Mavic Air FMC bundle that is around $1250 after discounts.

  • Just flew mine indoors for the first time. Crazy stable it just hovers in place. A controller is almost necessary though a phone just doesn't cut it.

    • I thought a controller would be necessary but have quickly gotten used to the phone. I'm not sure a controller is worth spending another third on top of the drone purchase price…i haven't actually tried one though.

I read that the tello phone control software is WAY better than other drone phone controls.

      • +1

I bought the gamesir t1 enhanced which supports both the tello and standard android games. Good unit for 45. Waiting for delivery.

It's a decent quad but not amazing. Brushed motors are normally only rated for 5-7 hours of use. Good for an absolute beginner but decent brushless quads can be found for just a little more.

Any recommendations? I've been holding out for a bug's model (probably a 5 variant), but not sold on anything yet.

  • So this doesn't come as a FPV? What do I need to buy to make it a FPV?

  • Interested.

I'm wondering what my office could use this for?

    • Delivering snags at the office Christmas party.

    Hi guys,

I’m new to drones. I want to fly it over my 2 storey house to take some video and pictures from the top. Is this suitable?

Or how do I know which ones are suitable? I would hate one to drop in my roof and disappear lol.

Also are these things easy to operate?

    Thanks,
    K.

  • $25 shipping to Mt Isa, must be only for metro areas

  • Just picked one up from JB, they price matched the drone and did a battery for $20 ($149 total). They have lots in stock too (Helensvale).

  • Bought one and returned it after a couple of weeks. It flew the first couple of times and would keep drifting and an error message came up on the app all the time.
Does not handle even slight wind so not for outdoors at all.

Got one and love it so far. Thanks :)

    • Ok.. apparently they messed up something with the latest update for the iOS app and video recording does not work anymore :( not sure if I should take it back or keep it hoping they fix the app …
