The 15 inch version is around the same prices and adds a basic GPU, if you're using it for basic gaming etc.

    • can you give e link please :)

        https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/laptops/new-15/spd/inspiron-…

I'd pick the cheapest one and add RAM later if you need it (should be fine for most without it)

        • +2

What are the differences between the models? I could see like 4 different models but only difference I could see is the ram which is the same in 2/3 of them.

Edit: I see now. Windows home vs pro and 8gb ram vs 16gb ram.

        • thanks merlict, if you dont mind me asking what is the difference between the the two on the right, one for 1,558.99 and the other for 1,498.99? they both seem two have the exact same specs.

@Lunawuna: Windows 10 Pro vs Home

            • @[Deactivated]: hey supabrudda why is the pro cheaper I wonder?

              • +1

@Lunawuna: I think the home one was 35% off and pro was 40% off?

                • @Rochie: Ah thanks Rochi :) One last annoying question, Is the cpu in this quad core?

                  • +1

@Lunawuna: Yeah they are quad core. Honestly for a brand new model laptop with good specs this is a great price especially including cashback. I want to bite the bullet.

                    • @Rochie: Thanks Rochie :) and I agree with you this is a great spec laptop for a good price!

                      • +1

@Lunawuna: Not to mention it is new gen so new ports are always good.

                        • @Rochie: Hey Rochie, do you know if shopback will definitely honor the cash back? on their site it says, Dell Coupon: 12% off Dell Branded Systems over $1700. Obviously with the sale on this laptop is under $1700.

                        • @Rochie: Just wondering how is the graphics card, i need a laptop for designing purpose all my software's are 3d, is this good enough to handle 3d software.

                          • @Empiresearth: I'm not too sure on its capabilities in regards to 3d modelling mostly just in terms of gaming sorry.

                  • +1

                    @Lunawuna:

Is the cpu in this quad core?

Most 8th gen U processors are now 4 cores but it doesn’t matter - these CPUs commence throttling quickly. Rule of thumb is - if you can’t see exhaust vents, then don’t expect sustained performance. Look at Dell’s H processor laptops if performance matters.

                    • @AlexF: Thanks for the info Alex, that's definitely something to take into consideration.

                    • @AlexF: I'll second this. I have one for work and at around 12% the fan fires up and bugs me all day. Should have got a "gaming" laptop.

              • @Lunawuna: Not sure.. my supa powers don't extend to reading the mind of Michael Dell & co

As always, jv lives up to his name, joie de vivre. Upvoted.

Not extremely well-versed in computers anymore but by the looks of it

      cpu - benchmarks 20% higher https://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html + next gen
ram - double(not sure how much diff it makes unless running multiple heavy programs)
gpu - this one is integrated so no competition
display - 13.3", definitely not for gaming
hdd - not sure what the NVMe is but I guess its faster & bigger

      • +1

NVMe is a faster version of the m2 slot for storage (ie HDD). The "slower" version is SATA m2 but you'd have trouble picking the difference in real world use.

Both are light years ahead of traditional spinning HDDs

    • +2

Gaming your choice is better just because of you. For everyday tasking and everything else this laptop wins. If it is just trying to run mid-high end games go with your choice. If it is casual gaming and everyday usage I would go this one. This will still play most games on low settings.

Can the ssd be upgraded ?

  • This plus a One Plus 6 or 1 iPhone xs?

    • +3

      The answer is clear.

      • +3

Glad someone else agrees, always wanted an iPhone.

  • +1

Can MacOS be installed on this?

    • Buy it and let us know.

    • it's possible with hackintosh

    • VMware

  • +1

    TRS ok?

    • Yeah, it should be as the invoice will have GST from Dell.

  • Not sure what exactly the difference but the cpu listed on Dell is 8565U instead of 8555U.

    • 8550u turbo goes to 4.0
      8560u turbo goes to 4.6

  • +2

What is the battery life like on these? Very tempting

    • Pretty poor.

  • This or XPS13?

    • +2

Good luck getting a xps that isn't double the price for same specs as this one….

  • Heading OS this coming weekend, does anyone know from real world experience if an order would arrive by this Friday ( 5 business days) so it could be TRSed, or is it too late, thanks.

    • +2

From experience, they take a few days to process the order and ship it out then it has to come from Malaysia. Doubt it'd make it in time.

      • +1

Cheers, very helpful, thanks a lot.

    • +1

no way, I bought one in July - took 8 or 9 business days

      • Hey thanks, much appreciated.

  • +2

Noob question, don't know too much about specs - is this laptop capable of video editing?

    Thanks!

    • Absolutely with the i7 8th gen cpu and 16gb of ram.

    • You can and the cpu should do a good enough job. Just bear in mind this is a 15w 4 core cpu vs say an 8750h which is a 45w 6 core. This will still manage it but dont expect equal speed. Look up some video rendering comparisons for a clearer picture.

      • Will do, thanks for the info!

  • Somehow, I am unable to use the code. Price bumped as soon as I had applied the code. Did I miss something?

    Pls see this screenshot

    • You can’t stack discounts. By applying the 12% off you undid the 40%. You can get 12% Cashback instead.

      • +1

        OP said this.

There is a crazy cheap deal for the [New Inspiron 13 7000 that's currently 40% Off] for $1,378.99 plus ShopBack are running 12% cashback(shopback.com.au) so this comes down to $1213.50

Sorry, I am new to shopback.com.au. So I have just to shop normally (without any discount code) on the Dell website and shopback will automatically add the amount to my account? I don't really have to enter any coupon on Dell website. Is my understanding correct?

        • Yes

        • +1

Click through Cashback site and the transaction is tracked by Cashback. The 12% is added to your Cashback account.
Don’t apply any coupons at Dell

  • How do you apply the shopback code and the 40% off?

    • +1

Literally read the comments two up from you.

      • I don't think you can, still waiting for someone to confirm if it is possible.

        See this GIF

        • Dude, someone literally confirmed in your post that you get the 12% back via the shopback link to the Dell store and you auto get 12% back.

        • Touche.

Does any one know if you install Linux on it will it void the warrenty?

          • @Rippa86: I would check with Dell support and confirm

            • +1

@vik27kum: Hardware warrenty is still in tact but with limited support.
You may have to reinstall windows to claim support. But otherwise it's all supported for all those playing at home.

Now the question is to buy or hope for a better bargain black Friday. Surely they're just cleaning out all these gen 8 i7s before the gen 9 ones launch.

  • How long does this deal last?

  • So what's the catch? Why is this so cheap? Is there a catch..?

    • +5

Yeah, its a dell. I've been using Dell's for years and there quality has gradually deteriorated over the past few years. I have an XPS 15 and my daughter has a similar one to this. Both have had numerous calls this years and parts replaced. Even the tech guys that come out (that are employed by IBM or Unisys) agree that Dell is now selling rubbish.

I would never buy another Dell.

      • I see… Thanks for sharing your experience!

      • +1

Yeah same here. Been using dell for quite a long time, it seems their newer device has really poor quality control. My XPS 13 9360 has s service done already…. 1st dead pixels, 2nd keyboard N button stopped working, and now waiting 3rd CPU fan weird buzzing/vibrations. It's pretty annoying, I should've just return for refund first time getting it with dead pixels.

        • can you return and refund for minor things with Dell?

          • @[Deactivated]: Not sure, I think if you're in the first 30days of buying it I think you could but now I am not sure. I think i'll try to ask for it to see if they'll do it but I highly doubt it and they'll probs would just insist on an on-site service to replace the fan.

      • For build quality I would prefer a Thinkpad T or X series or high end Asus

  • Anyone know the battery life with these?

  • +1

Thanks OP, just bought the 15inch one.
How long does it normally take for the cash to be visible in the cashback account?

  • Just bought the 2 in 1 version with 40% off.
Looks pretty sweet, you can flip the keyboard behind the screen to use as a tablet or set as a tent which will be good when watching videos.
Perfect for my new work laptop.

      no nvidia card in it?

      • I was looking for good graphics card, dont know about this, is it good enough or not.

        • Depends what you mean by good. Mx150 is by no means a good graphics card. But it’s enough to play league and basic games.

          • @ATangk: I use 3d softwares thats why i need good graphics, otherwise my system slows down.

  • +3

Does anyone have any real life experience with the battery life on this?

    • Yea i wanna know this as well

  • Dell Inspiron 13 7000 - 13.3" FHD, i7-8550U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD - $1,379 (Was $2,298.99)

So what is the Regular price of XPS 13 with the same configuration? I hope it's not $3,700 ?

I would say the above is decent price for a Dell Inspiron given the specification.

It would have been a killer deal if it was XPS and not Inspiron

  • +3

Just bought a New Dell Inspiron 15 7000. The cash back amont shows as $227.88. It seems it is based on the orginal price.

  • Did anyone already receive a cashback confirmation email? I purchased early this afternoon but havent received it yet :/

  • Is the offer only valid for today ?

  • Wow. I got $414 cashback from $2278? Thats 18%!

They did 12% cashback on the full price minus GST of the laptop. Thats value!

    • Thats an awesome deal. comes down to $900. When did you make the order. The deal seems to be active still.

      • I made the order yesterday and another one today. So yes it’s still active but I can’t guarantee the full amount because dell needs to confirm the cashback. It is currently ‘pending’

        • Is it still showing that amount - the cashback based on the original price minus GST or is showing the eprcebtgae of off what you paid ?

  • Deal expires Thursday 15th according to Dell website, not sure about cashback date.

    • Cashback offer expires on 14th as per rep.

  • Cashback increase from 12% to 14%

  • Anyone else not received the cashback acknowledgment from ShopBack?

Click Activity tab shows Dell Australia on 11/11 however the Cashback Activity tab says "We can’t find any tracked purchases".

What's more their Missing Cashback form (here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdNX-lrPUZax-fik5G5…) is a Google Docs form which resolves to an error page after I hit submit (tried twice now)…

    Rep, please explain?

    • +1

I haven’t received any acknowledgement or anything 3 days later. Did you contact them and ask for an investigation? It seems many people did not have their dell purchase tracked for this promotion

      • +1

I've submitted a missing cashback claim. Would certainly not have pulled the trigger on this without the ShopBack discount component so I will be chasing this hard. Any luck for you?
