    What is this?

    • From Website:

Mojo is the ultimate portable DAC/Headphone Amp that allows you to hear more from your headphones – anywhere. A multi-award winner, you can pair Mojo with your Smartphone, tablet, music player, DAP, games console, PC, Mac, or almost anything that allows audio out via USB, Optical, or Coax. Most importantly, whether you’re at home of on the go, you can experience up to eight hours of music playback meaning that you’ll never be caught loose and when you need to recharge you’ll be back up and running in only four hours when you use a 2A charger.

Because Mojo is designed and built in England using only the finest components, using the world’s most sophisticated machines, with a solid CNC milled aluminium shell with fun globe style LED indicators, you can be sure that Mojo still retains Chord Electronics renowned reliability, build quality, and tank proof aesthetic. But when you combine this with the latest trickle down FPGA DAC technology from the Hugo series and Dave products, Mojo is an unbeatable pocketable device that offers Hugo like performance for a fraction of the cost.

I've always been interested in wanting to try Mojo really want to know how well it sounds since there is so much rave reviews about it. OP just wondering, what headphones/IEMS do you pair it with the Mojo?

    • I'm using the Campfire Atlas, it's accentuates the bass and cleans it up, the mids become more pronounced and the extends the highs.

personally, i would only recommend getting the mojo if you have either high ohm headphones or very sensitive IEMs

It's quite surprising the difference this little thing makes, for fun i plugged in some apple earphones and honestly it managed to make them sound really good like a ~$200 pair of IEMs

      • Yeah if i got the Mojo the first headphones i would pair it would be the HD650's should be more than enough juice to power them fully. I'm currently using the Fiio F9 PRO's paired to the Hiby R3 DAP (ES9028Q2M DAC) i get a very clean and analytical mid focused sound, via the 2.5mm balanced output jack. Which gives me more power than the 3.5mm. I'd be very keen to listen how well it sounds when paired with the Mojo.

        • Personally, i think the mojo could pair well with the HD's - just because of it's 600 ohm output it'll drive them really well + the Bass should have a good punch.

Perhaps if you live around Sydney, head down to a hifi store and try it out, i know minidisc lets customers try before they buy

      • Hey, how are you finding the Atlas? i am really close to pulling the triger but have some concerns around long term comfort although with the 10 minutes i spent with them they seemed pretty comfortable.

        • thats a whole other can of worms,

I've bought about 7 different types of ear buds, and found that for me, the best fit is with comply foam (but bass leaks), the silicone has the best isolation and amazing bass but a pain to keep them in, so compromise is the symbio hybrid ear tips only cost like $22 aud delivered and they are perfect - worn for 7 hrs once and didn't slip out at all.

edit: silicone tips with good seal =subwoofer in ur head - it's ridiculous the bass response in these

Also found that wearing over - ear makes it difficult to push in, so conventional appears to be the best way to wear them.

If your about to buy, i'd say wait, as they should go on sale on ALO deals on black Friday

  • What makes this better than the $200 or $300 portable dac/amps that have the cliched "beats other dac/amps outside its price range!" line in their reviews?
(Which, by the way, I'm sick of seeing.)

    • Honestly, you're going to have to listen to it to find out, it's hard to describe.

But the biggest reasons i got it was, my current IEMs (campfire atlas) are very sensitive and require a good DAC, the portability (it's smaller than the size of your palm), up to DSD playing format (which i use for classical and Jazz, otherwise Tidal MQA or HiFi), the warm-er sound signature compared to comparable DAC's (i.e. OPPO 2 HE-SE)… list goes on really

Nah. There's nothing wrong with the Chord Mojo sound but nothing spectacular to justify the high price. Also, there's QC issues and a poorly designed battery. I reckon they only sold as well as they did because of those marbly buttons.

    • Agreed with that, i mainly purchased because i knew i'd be getting TRS back

Also with the QC issues, big reason why i think paying a premium for Aus stock is worth it, good ol' ACL

@ $600 i think it's the right price. Beats the LG Sabre DACS (i owned the V30+ before hand and sold it after getting this)

I think it is overpriced at $600. I have tested the OPPO and TOPPING portable amp/dacs and that $$$ difference doesn't justify the marginal increase in sound quality.

Recommendation would be a Black Label Micro for this price.

Also, hate how mine screeches when I play music while charging. I need to get into contact with these Chord…

        • Was looking at the IDsd as well, but it's too big i think, supposedly the sound is great out of them though, have you found one @ $600 ?

          • +1

@paraneoplastic: Hm, I take that back. Looks like local prices for the ifi are much higher. Was looking to buy this device earlier this year and ship it from the States. They were hovering around the $600 mark back then.

I guess I'd stick to recommending the OPPO HA-2/SE or TOPPING NX4. If you want more, splurge on an ifi.

  • Will this amp work from a USB C out on a pixel 2 xl android if I use a USB C to micro USB adaptor?

    • it will mate, as long as the cable is OTG (on the go) - basically all are nowadays

  • The mojo does sound great but its far too chunky to be portable. Anyone curious i would say pick one up used then if you dont like it you can sell it on without taking a loss.

If you want something portable check out the earstudio es100, amazing tiny box of magic.

    • If you are buying used, be careful of very bad battery depletion.

      • Got mine for 300 used. Seems like first gen as well. Battery is fine, and I replace the internal thermal pads. It won’t overheat and shut down now during play/Charing.

After all you can replace the battery anyway

        • Try plugging a toslink or RCA into it while charging. Do you hear loud whining with headphones.

          Battery repair is super expensive.

  • I'd love to test this out as I can't see how it makes much of a difference. As others says, maybe it helps to drive sensitive headphones and maybe it changes the sound signature but I left behind all of the snake oil that came with DACs as I could rarely hear a definitive improvement in quality.

  • Contemplating on selling my mojo on classifieds.

Got one in last month I have to say it is nice dacamp, but I don’t think it is worth the money.

All the online hype seems over exaggerated, but don’t get me wrong it is a “decent “ unit. Again if you ask me any alternative can beat this in terms of performance/price , probably none atm.

Also for iPhone users be ready to buy a cck cable for 49 from apple store or make custom cable for it
