  • Has anyone had any experience with shop back (maximum cashback etc)

Looking at getting a DELL XPS 15 this takes $570 off an already discounted $700 unit.
    so a really good deal.

      Hey mate,

I used them earlier in the year for this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/387677

My order never tracked despite using Internet Explorer with no adblock and having only 1 tab open the whole time. But I contacted Shop Back and they were able to rectify it for me and manually added the tracking details to my account. 3-4 months later, I got the full cashback amount.

      • Yeah interesting,

Thanks for this - I might jump on it even if it takes awhile to get back - $1300 is $1300 off.
Whats your Experience with the XPS so far?

        • +2

I love it, build quality is great and the specs were awesome for the price I paid for it.

I actually have experience with both the low and high end XPS. At my workplace, we use the highest config XPS 15" and the one I purchased was the lowest config XPS 13". The 4k screen I use at work is stunning and I kind of wish I went for it for my personal machine but not all programs support high DPI scaling correctly. Also, the work laptop is constantly being plugged/unplugged from external monitors and Windows just goes on a fritz when DPIs are different across monitors. So I'm consoled that the XPS 13 I paid for was a very good deal and that I don't have to deal with the scaling headaches.

Battery life on the 13" is amazing, never really took notice or benchmarked it but have used it for over 8 hours before with light browsing and movie watching with juice still left to go. With the 15" at work, it's a 4K display which I run at max brightness and max performance, it lasts about 3-4 hours in long meetings.

        • I have an XPS 13" - will say its probably one of the best Windows-based laptops available. Build quality is above average, trackpad is decent (nowhere as close to Macbook Pro quality), keyboard is nice. The webcam is in an extremely awkward position which is basically unusable if it matters to you.

Battery life is pretty good, not as good as the MBP in my experience. That being said, I use Ubuntu which is far less bloated than Windows and probably saves more power.

          • @anyeong: Thinking of retiring my old MBA and jumping to a Linux laptop.

How easy is it to install and maintain, and can Ubuntu (or other Linux) use all the hardware features?

(I have many, many, years of experience with Unix as an end-user, but not so much in the sys admin area. I don't mind doing minor admin and configuration, but I don't have time to devote hours and hours trying out different combinations of settings.)

            • @GordonR: I highly recommend Elementary OS. I have been using it on my old Dell Latitude for the past 7 years now.

It's based on Ubuntu but is designed with full graphical interface, i.e. something like Mac OS where you can do most things with mouse clicks.

            • @GordonR: Ubuntu is pretty easy to install. There are plenty of tutorials online, but you have to make sure you have the right settings in the BIOS and backup your data before partitioning your drive (if dual booting).

Everything worked straight out of the box, didn't have to do any additional configuration or installing drivers. Only need to customise everything to your liking.

I mainly use Ubuntu because its much faster than Windows and for the Unix environment. Only disadvantage is no Microsoft Office and latest games.

              Hope that helps :)

              • @anyeong: Thanks, sounds good.

I don’t game or use Office, and tend to do pretty much everything via command-line anyway, so it sounds pretty much ideal.

    • Which XPS has that discount?

      • +1

        15 with the i9 and 32gb ram

        • +1

i9 doesn't get too hot in XPS chassis?

    • you got a link?

    • I use Chrome with Shopbacks addon extension. Gives an icon that shows when connected to the system at the retailer, and I have not had an issue. Beats having to make sure you start at Cashrewards and only then add items to your cart etc.

  • +1

Is it just me or Dell doesn't let you configure more RAM for xps 15?

  • I've used Cashrewards heaps and never had issues - what are the chances of Shopback not detecting your purchase even following all the right instructions?

Bought something last night and still haven't received a cashback pending notice…

    • Use the Shopback Chrome extension. They also have one for Firefox.

    • Neither have I. Contact them and they will investigate iT. Can take up to 35 days.

  • Any Dell laptop anyone recommend for a Yr 7 student for school? Need 256GB HDD (SSD?), 8Gb RAM preferably.

  • I am also in the same boat as Rodo / Beast. Looking for a laptop for year 7 student.

  • Just ordered one last night.
Cashback is higher than 12% off purchase price.
    Should I cancel and re-order?

    • Did you get cashback notification? Is it 12% off the normal price or on the discounted price?

      • I purchase dell 15 2 in 1. RRP 1899 and purchase price is 1139 cashback notification says 207.
Looks like 12% off rrp without gst.

        • What time did you order? I ordered a monitor at around 10pm last night and still dont have a cashback notification :(

          • @Garbotoxin: I ordered around 8 pm and get confirmation within 15-20 minutes.
I ordered through shopback app on my phone.

            • @talktome: Have you got confirmation yet?
Have you use any code not listed as website?
I was thinking to use code from powebuy for additional 5% off but i thought it may cause issues with cashback so i didn't use it

              Cheers.

              • @talktome: Did yours work, as I just did it and only got 4%?

                • @double: No as i mentioned in last comment i didn't use code.
But rep confirm after my order, that code won't eligibille for cashback.
Why you only received 4% cashback?
                  When you order yours ?
Now cashback is back to normal 4%.

                  Cheers.

                  • @talktome: I did not use a code either.
I ordered mine this morning, when did the 12% cashback end that was not clear at all as the codes above state that it is 40% off + 12% cashback but you cannot use my codes.
I will cancel my order than as there is much better cashback deals very annoyed.

        • I was surprised to find it was off the RRP. I hope they honor it!

  • +1

I'm a bit confused about the AUAFFILIATES codes. Are you meant to enter that in at Dell or at Shopback? If it's at Dell, wouldn't it cancel out the even bigger current discount? Wouldn't the 12/14% be applied automatically as long as you click through from Shopback?

    • +1

cancels out the discount for me. so i wouldn't use them if the total price is lower without them.

i can't see anywhere to enter it into the shopback website as it is a referral site anyway.

      • Do you still get 14% cash back?

    • I'm having the same issue. When I try the AUAFFILIATES code it does not stack and removes the bigger discount. Is this suppose to happen?

  • Anyone know how long will this last? Wait for click frenzy as well?

  • Hey guys I am looking for a laptop with decent battery life, light gaming such as league of legends on occasion, I want a decent screen since I might be editing in photoshop, this laptop will be for work as an IT consultant, i need to be able to have many programs open such a google chrom, excel and word etc. Any recommendations?

    • +1

inspiron 15 7000 with mx150 will run league just fine and have enough screen real estate for you

      • I was tying to find out battery life information on this specific model but couldn't get enough information, all there was that it last around 4 hours. I really do like this laptop but if someone actually gives me proper results i will buy it asap.

    • +1

Bro get yourself a MacBook pro

      • currently have a MacBook air I definitely had the macbook pro in mind but was having trouble justifying the price even though i know they have the best build quality.

  • Hey guys hows the tracking with shopback after making a purchase?

    • Mines not showing anything. You ?

  • Isnt this still going?

    • I just checked the shopback chrome extension and it says 4%. So no, sadly it's over.

  • Mine did not work correctly I only got 4% back, even though these cashback options are valid until Jan.
Can @talktoronak and is there a shopback rep here who can assist?
