Nokia 8 Steel (2017) 4GB / 64GB Snapdragon 835 $299.25 Delivered (HK) @ TobyDeals

1640

Just used Officeworks price match against Tobydeals $299.25 sale price on the Nokia 8 to get for $284.29. Note: Price match at Officeworks may be rejected as this model is dual sim (Officeworks is selling single sim).

Currently $548 at Officeworks (saving $263.71). Not showing on OW website (stock will vary store to store, superseded by Nokia 8 Sirocco).

Not a bad deal considering I paid ~$320 for a Nokia 6 not long after release and this puppy had a (too-high) RRP of $899.

Cons for me

  • no Android One, will get Android 9 Pie.
  • camera, although marketed as Ziess, isn't the best.
  • no qi

Pros for me

  • Snapdragon 835
  • expandable storage via microSD
  • USB-C
  • Band 28

            • @Maltrex: I tried, she said they don't have any left. Not sure where she checked. I guess it saves me nearly $300.

              • @Miss B: Sorry got the last one on hold last night just before you. Tried Ringwood, ftg and Bayswater but they had no stock.

                • @evilredfin: Probably better anyway. I don't need a new phone, just wanted one. I think it just opened up $274 to buy myself a present.

  • OW wouldn't price match a photo of a receipt, they said it has to be a physical copy. I've never heard of that before

    • +2

BS when they email receipts for clients at the register.

      • Yeah, I thought it was strange too but 2 store members said it so I didn't want to argue

In my instance they’re happy with some random, digital hk website that they can’t/ didn’t verify. But won’t match their own digital receipts that they can verify in a matter of minutes from another companion brick & mortar OW.

Sounds like i had a similar experience to you. The guy said it's in their terms and conditions in "small writing" even though I showed him their policy on my phone.. So I dunno

          • @yessum: Did you end up with one?

            • +1

@stickymoo: I did!! It took a while, they refused at first, and then I showed them the TC's on their price beat policy, they called the manager, who called head office, and in the end got the price beat of tobydeals.

Edit: Now just wondering where to get a case.. doesnt seem like there are many actual fitted cases

              • @yessum: I’m in the same boat. I wouldn’t have a clue what cases are available. A nice fitted case would be great though!

                • @stickymoo: Yep I'm looking at ebay now, I'll let you know if I find anything good.

                  • @yessum: Did you pick a case?

                    • @stickymoo: I bought a cheap one off ebay, hopefully it fits. I can link you to the one I bought or let you know when I receive it what the quality is like?

                    • @stickymoo: Hey, just letting you know that the case arrived today. Fits well, included glass screen protector so there are definitely decent cases on ebay. I actually went to check some of those shopping centre kiosks and officeworks to check if they had any cases (since I was kinda iffy if the cheap ebay one would be any good/arrive soon) and had no luck with those.

Though I should mention, the case partially obscures the back microphone (the small pinhole looking thing above the camera lens). There's a cut out on the case for it but it still covers part of the mic.

                      • @yessum: That’s cool. Thank you for letting me know & the review! What was the case you ended up with?

I had the same issue. I looked everywhere to find a local, good option & it is near impossible to find anything.

So far I’m looking at olixar. They have a slimline clear case and a protector that looks ok. There’s not too many reliable options

                        • @stickymoo: Oh I had a look at the Olixar too in the black but I didn't like the sheen, the clear looked good though.

I ended up buying this one from ebay.

If you end up getting a similar one to me though, I would say the case is still quite slippery to grasp, though at least it's in a case now. And the tempered glass screen protector that comes with this, doesn't stick fully to the edges of the phone where the phone starts to curve. I'm happy to take photos if you want haha

But yeah, hope this helps with your phone case quest!

Copy of receipt for $247 purchase last night.

This was not a price beat either. Marked down in store at POS. Didn't need to show OP's receipt at all.

    Apologies for not posting sooner.

      Thanks! Your receipt was helpful.

    • Thank you so much! Got the last one from Marion for $247 thanks to your receipt, they wanted $500.

      Spare to sell? =)

      • One is for my wife. You can get another one by $250 if you still want.

Came here to let people know that it might be harder now to price match for this model as I found stock in one store and they were reading from a head office memo stating they would not price match TobyDeals due to different/dual sim model.

That would also cancel out a lot of docket price matching too, but still worth a try as some stores looked like they dropped the price themselves.

Nerang wanted $498 for their Nokia 8, so obviously I Politely Passed lol.

I received mine in the post from TobyDeals yesterday and used it today. Chuck in a second sim card from Kogan which contains cheap 40GB data from another OzBargain deal.

Everything worked fine and I am happy with the purchase. Of course, I might run into difficulties if I ever had to claim warranty but that's always the deal with these Hong Kong sellers.

    • "ju2au" Just wondering if you received any OTA updates for your phone yet?

What version Android was it running out of the box and up to what version security is it running now after/any updates?

Think you have a top phone there for what you spent, about the best around really, you must be happy with it.
