Would you really want 4 times the storage capacity in an old geneation ipad or get the latest for the same price???
The upgrades on the newer generation are far more than sacrificing on a bit of storage.. So its not really a bargain..Would you buy a computer with less storage capacity?
The iPad is a content viewing device. The only real feature upgrade of the iPad 2 is the dual cameras (which most people do not need on a 10" screen). iPad 1 is still powerful enough to run all apps.

I've got a proper computer. An iPad is good for if you need quick access to info or you are watching TV at the same time :)

If I was using it to play movies, then I would prefer the storage capacity. It simply depends on whay you plan on doing with the thing.
I don't understand why you'd want to watch movies on it. What are you gonna do, hold the thing for 2 hours+? It's too small to sit on a table in front of you also, so no point. A laptop is much more usable, these things are only useful in a work situation(replacing note pads etc).
Bullshit. Laying in bed with it on your lap is more than comfortable enough to watch a movie.

We use the ipad1 to stream movies and tv shows from our mac … you dont need to store the movies on it (unless of course you are using it away from home).
Its a great ereader and fair 'newspaper'. Last time I looked we had over 800 apps, 4,000 songs, and over 1,400 books - which don't take up a lot of storage, on the 64gig model. My son is playing games in his bed with it now, and this morning he was watching recorded TV shows. Each person has their own uses for it … the last thing I would use it for is work though.
Like the iphone, its also great for live TV, eg Al Jazeera, and over 40,000 radio stations (tunein).
- oh and we got a great case/stand for $10 (instead of $48 here) from China from one of the suppliers listed on this site.

Aside from pirating, 4,000 songs doesn't mean much. A lot of us would have 4,000 songs on CDs across the house.

Should it be better to buy an Android tablet? There is one on Dealextreme at 200 bucks shipped, 7 inch CAPACITIVE with 1080p playback, HDMI port and micro SD slot (built-in), Froyo 2.2 and Android market access.
The different Chinese ripoffs are a bit of a gamble with regards to quality and responsiveness. I would do a lot of research before even committing to $200
Yes I have done quite a bit of research. You can read slatedroid forum and other review on Youtube about Dropad A8, Herotab, … and some other names. It is obviously not a "ripoff" mate. It is an Android tablet, nothing to do with ipad except they are both tablets. For a much more expensive and better tablet you can get the Xoom.
Yeah the droid tablets are pretty awesome since the hardware is often better and cheaper than a iPad.
But I'd wait a little bit to make sure you get Android Honeycomb 3.0, the older versions weren't optimized for tablets and run a bit crappy.
And StevieRay…many thousands (even hundreds of thousand) of iPads are made in China eg. Shenzhen’s Foxconn factories then re-routed to everyone.
