    Is Nylex better than Gardena?

    • Bought this 2 weeks ago and didn't last 2 days with the tap at 1/8 of a turn if that's anything to go by.
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/gardena-15m-weeper-hose_p3130812

      • What happened to it?

        • +13

The whole thing just started leaking … along its entire length! ;)

        • Started shooting water up about a meter high in one spot

      • If you want a good leaky hose go for the brand LEEAKY as it is made in Australia unlike the ones sold in Bunnings.

"Weeper Hose is ideal for targeted, water-saving irrigation of plant rows and is the ideal irrigation solution in low water pressure areas.
The flow rate and pressure can be reduced easily and comfortably using the control valve to the ideal working pressure (0.5 - 1 bar).
Made in Germany and is covered by a 5 year warranty"
This one is a specially designed hose. It "weeps" along its all length. It could be dug in to the ground.
Gardena is producing a very good range of pressure hoses and they are expensive.
The Nylex from this post is very, very good investment. It shouldn't be missed.
Buy this one and after 25 years get ready to buy another one.

    • Pretty much the same quality these days.

      Is Nylex better than Gardena?

      No way, Hosè

  • Thanks I'll be there tomorrow

Misread the title as kinkaway hoes?

    • Calm down mate.

  • Can somebody please confirm if Hoselink Spray Guns (Specially Ned Kelly Kit) is compatible with Nylex hose listed in OP?
I understand these are just standard hose however I read somewhere that Nylex hoses are not compatible with Hoselink?

    • +1

The hose is compatible, but the connectors aren't.

You'd have to fit Hoselink no-burst connectors and it will work fine.

      • +1

Thanks, I have the Hoselink Ned Kelly starter kit so yeah it should be compatible then

  • +1

Anyone got any insight on the quality of Nylex?

    • +2

I've got the one up from this - kink rating 9 and it kinks and tangles like anything. Don't bother buying if you're not going to use it with a hose reel. Otherwise the quality of the actual hose is good.

      • Thanks. My current no-brand hose kinks like crazy. I was hoping this would help but guess I'll have to buy the cart as well.

        • +3

What I do is turn off at the spray gun first, then at the tap. Then coil up the hose with water still in the hose. Never experienced kinking.

      • +2

Hoses don’t usually kink or tangle themselves. Just sayin’.

Bunnings hoses are the biggest scam going. Honestly go to aldi. The bunnings hose section is a deviously crafted ecosystem where all the cheap hoses are junk and their packaging will gladly tell you so. Its all rigged at bunnings. Buy a nice quality hose from aldi.

    • +1

Aldi also has got hose on special buy this Sat. I was thinking which one should get?

      • Same for me. Wondering should I get the Aldi one instead of this deal.

        • +8

Just bought a set of Gardena hoses last night.

Had cheap Aldi hoses which were POS hoses. Replaced them with the level 8 kink resistant Gardenas and the difference is massive. I thought I'd keep the Aldi hoses for a while but after using the Gardenas I decided to throw them immediately. Never ever will I torture myself with that crap again.

The old wisdom of you pay for what you get still holds, at least for me.

          • +2

@littlegreenman: I wouldn't suggest buying the aldi hose tomorrow. Aldi do release a good hose, I think it has already been offered this year, its the tpr rubber hose. Most hoses combat kinks with stiffness so it's hard to bend them enough to kink, but when they do, a permanent crease forms at the kink and will be it's Achilles heel from then on. The Tpr hose from Aldi is quite the opposite and is very flexible so whilst you can bend it back on itself easily its far less prone to forming a kink at one spot.
To get a rough idea of how kink free a hose will be, just grab it with both hands about 30cm apart and bend it 180 degrees. Youll soon see which ones are less likely to kink. And like others have said, get a hose reel for it. Also if possible keep it out of the sun when your not using it and drain the water out it if you cbf.

            • @LGW: Only problem is before you buy hose, it comes pre-rolled so unless you break apart to test it.

Moderator: can you remove my association. I don't work at Bunnings even though I may spend heaps of time there.

          • +1

@littlegreenman: I had one Gardenas 15m level 8 kink, it's quite good. But I think the level 10/ extreme would be amazing. But it's very dear.

    • So what you are saying is that they sell cheap junk hoses just so they can mark up the regular hoses such as the one on this deal?

  • For 25 years guarantee, do we need to keep the reciept?

    • +3

Problem is it's a manufacturer defect guarantee so if there is a problem from normal wear and tear which includes damage from leaving it in the sun they will refuse to exchange.

      • +1

I just knew this…. So 25 years guarantee does mean much….

        • It's stated for outdoor use and UV stabilised. So i would claim warranty even after 24 years. 😂

    • And doesn't include fittings.

    • only 2 years on fittings

  • Thanks, I will pick up my ho tomorrow

  • Does anyone know where I can get one of those material hoses that unwind/expand when you turn the water on? I had one once and it was great…many years ago. I left it with my ex when I left her.

I don't know what brand it was, but i've looked in Bunnings and they don't have it.

Thanks, just saw this post. I bought that same hose cart last weekend for $65 and thought it was too flimsy. I'll be taking it back to Bunnings tomorrow and buy it again for $29.98 :)

  • +3

I've had one of these hoses for a few months and not impressed. I bought it on the strength of it's packaging saying it resists kinks but it doesn't. Twists and kinks the minute you unroll it. I also had a few of those expanding hoses and they were great while they lasted but every one split after a relatively short period of time (even the "heavy duty" one I purchased). Great concept and worked well until spilt but not worth the constant expense of replacing.

  • Looks like the expandable hose technology still has a bit of room for improvement. So many people reporting leaks after a short time. Damn.

The above-mentioned Bunnings one would be ok, it has 10yr warranty. So every time it sprung a leak, I could claim another replacement. However, there isn't a store near me that stocks them :(

    Cheers for responses :)

The Nylex Kinkaway hoses are complete trash and a huge waste of money, the things kink worse than anything. Also they dont last long at all, they are made with 2 different colors creating a seam between the black and orange. They get pinhole leaks and perish very quickly. Save your money.

Nylex Kinkaway aka the Kink All Day.

  • I bought this hose last week and it’s total shit. Will Bunnings accept a refund?

    • Yes take it back, Nylex have been knowingly offloading these poor quality not fit for purpose hoses for years and pray on people not returning them so they can make profits.

    • +1

Yep, I took back a Nylex Sprayer after I used it for a year.

It was a pump up sprayer for herbicide and the shoulder strap would press on the release valve and release pressure, absolute junk.

I emailed the company of this shitty design flaw and got "we'll pass it on to our quality control team, which is probably the cleaner.

To this day, they're still selling the same crappy model.

  • I bought Nylex hoses of similar specification10 years ago and they are still going strong after using them to water the garden 2-3 times every week in the warmer months. Never had problems with burst or leaking hoses. Most of the leaks happen around the fittings and I highly recommend Gardena or Nylex fittings to bypass that issue.
They do unfortunately kink every now and then, depending on how the hose is uncoiled, but nothing compared to the budget hoses I used in the past.

  • Got one Thanks. Only 4 left in stock Singleton NSW

  • hmmm, i should have checked out the poor reviews before buying. i might take them back.

i have some older cheaper nylex hoses (plain grey, don't know what they are called) and the hose itself has been awesome. i've had to replace the fittings though

  • Bought the hose cart, thanks op

  • +1

I bought it yesterday and it kinked straight away and the fittings all leak. Don't waste your time.

  • Anyone know of a good 3/4" (18mm) hose. 30-50m long
For good price and one thats not crap?

Bought a no kink that kinks. Has got pinhole leaks in the inner liner and fills up with water between the inner and outer and basically stops the flow
