Qantas Premier Platinum Card: 70k QFF Points after $3.5k Spend in 3 Months, 2 Qantas Lounge Passes ($149 Annual Fee 1st Year)

320

Once again a new offer from the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card (provided by Citibank). Looks like the flight voucher has been scrapped, and instead you receive a reduced annual fee of $149 instead of $299, and an extra 10k Qantas points compared to last deal (totalling 70k):

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/396826

"Once the annual fee is paid on the anniversary of the card approval, allow up to 12 weeks for the remaining 30,000 bonus points to be awarded." - This will bring the total to 100k bonus points.

Obviously it's not the best deal out there, but good for anyone between the main ones, with 1 point per $1 spend (up to $10k) and 2 free lounge passes a year.

(thanks swimmingtoad)
Minimum Limit: $6,000
Minimum income: $35,000

For 70k Bonus points, 3.5k spend is required in 3 months (90 days)

    • Great card at that price.

Seems the $149 is paid on anniversary - is there anything to stop you cancelling the card after the 70k points to make this a 'free' card?

    • +5

Ah. It costs $149 for the first year ie up front. If you keep it for a further year then you will need to pay another $299 on the anniversary of the first payment of $149 and you will then get a further 30k points. So it's $149 for 70k points and the card for one year or (eventually) $448 for 100k points and the card for two years.

  • So the extra 30000 points are issued upon paying another $299 after 1 year?

    • from what I understand, yes.

  • Do we need to not have cancelled in the past 12 months?

    • From what it says on the website it just says "to not currently be a primary Qantas Premier Card holder". However from previous deals, many people have been rejected after having citibanks cards as well, so maybe someone else could inform?

      • This is not technically correct. It's only true if you have done something to your previous citibank eg increases limit, closed or opened it etc in last 6 months. I've been successful in holding a citi signature and a virgin high flyer (also with citi) together.

        • Since there is no condition that limits one must not have one closed in the last 12 months. Does it mean one can close and reopen and get 70k again?

          • @[Deactivated]: Yes correct. As long as you have since opened the last citi card > 6 months, you should be able to apply and get the bonus pts. Regardless if you close the first card or not.

In other words $299 for 30,000 points

    • +6

      $149 for 70k points or $448 for 100k points.

  • Mind spend..?

    Edit: 3.5k I think

I cancelled this card recently before my first year was up, they offered to reduce the annual fee to $149 for another year if I stayed.
Qantas Points transfers into your account pretty quickly compared to other cards.

    • Think they are not allowed to do it anymore :(

Should really read $448 for 100k points &/or $149 for 70k points, title bit misleading as is.

Decent deal if hit up the rest of the offers.

    • I get really confused with the best way to redeem these days. How well does $149 for 70K points work out ?

      • Value at least 1c/point, making $551

What are other good options for QFF bonus points offers? I have the ANZ Black but want to switch.

Any advice from OZB professionals would be much appreciated!

    • St George amplify or westpac bundle

Can I have been a Citibank customer recently (credit card) and still be eligible for this?

  • +2

Do you get the lounge passes immediately?

    • What do you do with the lounge passes?

I've got a couple that expire in May, but we fly in July.

      Can they be extended?

      • +1

I don't believe they can be extended, a lot of people sell them if they are unable to use them.

    • yeah, mine showed up within a week or earlier

Westpac deal is better. $0 annual fee first year.

    • +5

why do people just copy and paste this on every single credit card deal that isn't westpac? did you not read the description "Obviously it's not the best deal out there, but good for anyone between the main ones"

      • -3

I'm just helping other ozbargainers out here by mentioning this is not the best deal.

Yes, the description might state its not the best deal however people might overlook the description so its best practice to remind them through the comments. I'm sure other people will appreciate the reminders in the comments.

Haters like you will always hate.

  • Applied yesterday and got approved today!! Just closed my Bendigo today so great timing…
Btwn - I was earlier rejected for this card, I think back in Jan or so..

  • Can I get this card even though I've just been approved for the Westpac black mastercard and amex bundle?

  • +1

Approved! Citibank seem to love me. Fourth Citibank card this year (citibank, virgin, Qantas premier x 2).

  • +1

3.5k is a big spend for just 70k

  • +1

Somehow I was denied this card… good credit card rating and no current credit cards

  • The eligibility of the bonus points for people who have held another Qantas credit card is not clear.

I had a Qantas Everyday Credit Card few months ago. Am I eligibility?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

  • Does anyone know if there is any cashback/rebate deals on third party signs for signing up? (like a Pricepal kind of thing)

I've seen this card "Promoted" on various credit card comparison sites so there is obviously "affilate" dollars out there somewhere! :)

  • It is said that Qantas products attract an additional 1 point per $1. Can someone confirm if this is the case for Qantas Insurance payments as well?
