    Discount is quite inconsistent across models

    This is almost never heard of for an apple product, especially on the first day of a new product launch.

    The very large discount for the 64GB 3G is odd, but would you be able to buy at this price?

    As per usual stores are short supplyed on what is no doubt going to be very popular items.

    For the discounts on offer its probably not the price you should worry about its wether you get one or not.

      Well they had stock. I know at least 3 people who purchased iPad2 from Big W today. It's not their fault apple give them limited stock, particularly for release.

        If there infact isn't stock available, then it is partially BigW's fault. They have the choice to sell this product at this time or not. If they can't secure a reasonable amount of stock because of Apple's fault, then they shoud've refused to sell it.

        Having said that, i don't know whether there is stock, how much stock there is etc etc. I'm just commenting on your "It's not their fault apple give them limited stock, particularly for release"

          why should they refuse selling the ipads? the hype built around ipad and the fact that Big W is selling ipad 2 on the 1st day of release, and cheaper too - will bring in a lot of traffic into Big W.

          faster than MY ipad.

          SD, microSD, ipad's flash memory all use the same stacked silicon wafers, just in different packaging and with different controllers.

          And of course I'm OK with $3000 chrome inserts on a car. If someone wants to pay extra for those inserts then it's their money and their choice.

          Unreasonable? Of course. But it's 100% standard practice. If somebody wants something extra, it's a chance to increase profit. They're not giving you something extra at cost price or they'd make no money off providing the extra.

          He's not being hypocritical, he's making a perfectly valid point.

          Sounds like you did.

          The point isn't who is and isn't allowed to judge. It's the difference between he, who accepts that the price isn't reasonable to him, and doesn't buy it, and others, who debate it, and complain about it being unreasonable.

          Two very different things.

          Completely irrelevant what the raw cost of the extra feature is.

          Can you name one company that has different product tiers or services with pricing differentials that reflect the true extra cost of providing the extra features or specifications? No, you can't. If you think a company is being unreasonable in pricing their well featured products at higher prices, then don't buy them. Buy the lower spec model that you can afford or go to a competitor.

          I in disbelief you are no aware of this practice and such a basic theory. You see it EVERYWHERE you go, ranging from soft drinks, to motor cars, to EVERYTHING.

        Tourist refund scheme at the airport once you clear immigration. You need the original receipt and the goods with you. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4263.asp

          Need to show your i Pad and the invoice with the Ipad. For amounts above certain amount, the invoice needs to have the name of the buyer, which would be the person claiming refund. Invoice must be for minimum $300 (not an issue with I Pad). Allow sufficient time before check in. Customs would not allow you to claim a refund if while waiting in the queue to claim you have lost some time leaving you very little time to clear security. I think the cut off time is 30 mins from the departure at the customs refund window.

          If the total price is above $1000, you will have to declare it on the way in and pay the GST and Customs Duty on import. I would suggest do your maths to see if you are better off. Duty free import threshold is $1000 (unless Gerry Harvey is able to get that changed to a lower amount before you arrive).

          Gerry Harvey should be boycotted, along with Myer, DJ's, Target, Just Jeans etc for suggesting they change that $1000 threshold. All those companies are well known for their everyday rip-off pricing and they don't like people getting stuff from overseas for a far better price.
          I notice they have shut their traps in recent times, due to all the bad publicity they generated for themselves.

    I got one from Big W qv in Melbourne. 64G 3G. lined up at 3.45pm, was 9th in the line. the queue only started to build after 4.30pm.

    They had 30 units in total as most Big ws and targets. One per customer and there were about 60 people in the line. Very few people left the queue even after being told by the staff that they are unlikely to get one.

    Yep, got one at bigW doncaster, 32gb wifi and a grey smart cover. Got there about 4:50 and was about 15th in line, walked out 5:15 to stroll past the 1000 people camped outside the apple store.
