Furthermore, if you really want to do it, a 1TB+ MLC based m.2 NVMe makes more sense. Good to see 970 EVO is being priced in the TLC SSD level.

Get the motherboard first. SSD prices are not rising. Some motherboards have two m.2 slots but only one supports NVMe (some have 2 supporting NVMe).
