The Threadripper 1950X kills the i7-8700K.Depends on workload. There's no single best CPU, it all depends on what you do.
If you needed Threadripper, you won't be cross shopping with an i7.
Threadripper is awesome for work.
For play, its alright with a few "tweaks".
It is more future proof as more future games can maximise the multiple cores?
The logic make sense as more and more core CPUs are being released.@congo: For gaming I'd just do a Ryzen build, then make another if and when more threads are needed. Gaming is never gonna need HEDT and 2 2600(X) level builds is gonna cost you less than 1 Threadripper build, while giving you architecture and clock advantages.
Trying to future proof never really works out.

Cost less? Threadripper are getting cheaper and if you have two builds, you will require 2x mobos, ram, M.2, GPU, Power etc.
One build would be more cost effective.
