      • @suprabrudda So you mean it makes pretty much all the US free-to-air TV station content available on demand (for a period after the content aired)? Like FreeView in Aus?

        • so it's catchup TV for most US free TV channels (but it has current & past seasons), it has movies and it has original content (like Hand Maidens Tale)

          Have a squiz
          https://www.hulu.com/start/content

it's probably closer to Netflix, then Freeview.

  • No luck with Amex, guess I won't be cancelling my old account that still works with my expired Amex…

    • is it a bnak or amex issued card? my amex issued one just worked

      • Amex issued

        • +1

try using your actual postcode with a 0 on the end - it worked for me this way.

        • I just signed up using Australian AMEX issued card. Not an issue.

  • Do I need a separate Netflix Account or can I watch US tv series using this as a stand alone service?

    • Hulu is a seperate service. You’ll need a Hulu account as it’s not associated with Netflix at all.

  • Citi bank worked for me! thanks OP

  • What should an existing hulu subscriber Ozbargainer do? Cancel and create a new account? Would that require a new email along with new cards?

    • +1

I'm one of those and signed up to this new promo and once that went through, cancelled my existing account. A different email and the same card worked for me.

    • +1

Unless you particularly care about retaining your watch history and lists, I'd say cancel and renew. Only thing I'll miss my no adds option (which I was paying extra for anyway).

    • +1

I deleted my account and recreated it using exact same details, including payment info - successfully signed up to the 99c deal.

    • +1

My exisiting acc had a Hulu gift card applied so it was paid for until March… Putting it on hold for 12 weeks at a time won't last the 12 months of 99c so thinking I'll make the old acc ad free (might pay for HBO on top of it) to make the most of the gift card there. Will definitely cancel the acc before they charge my card of course.

      • Yep I’ll be doing the same. My credit will last to April. Will probably put it on hold until Christmas holidays and go ad free and HBO/Showtime then back on hold if possible.

    • Turns out the same Westpac mastercard I had used for years didnt work with another account.
So ended up with a new US Paypal account with the same westpac mastercard and used it for the new Hulu account. Seems to work.

  • I had Hulu until my credit card expired and would let me enter in new details :(

  • +1

thanks! cancelled my current account and signed up again. ;)

    • Thanks for the suggestion - I ran in to a convoluted issue and couldn't create a new account due to the same CC details being used on my existing account and wouldn't let me sign up to this deal.
Deleted my existing account and re-created it (using same details & same Amex) to sign-up for the 99c deal.

  • Citibank dinner club work for me as well ! thanks!

  • +1

thanks for the post. signup worked fine with my westpac companion card amex. had to play around with the zip code a bit to get it to work, in the end using a five digit version of my aussie postcode (just repeated a middle number) got it to work

  • does anyone know how to get the hulu app onto my ipad?? i have a ~$100 balance and if i try to change country it says i need to spend the balance first

    • You have to create a US iTunes account - it can be done without needing a payment method (Google should get you there). You can create/add an email alias to your existing mail account rather than signing up for a new account, or with Gmail add in a full stop (.) in your email address to fake a new email address.
Then you sign out of your existing iTunes account on your iPad, log in with your US account, install app, sign out of your US iTunes account, log back in with your Aus iTunes account.

    • Do you have a US iTunes account? If not, you'll need to create one first and than you can switch between US/AU stores as needed.

  • thanks for that - i am halfway through setting up the account but it wants a phone number??

edit; all good - my aussie number worked :) thought i needed a US one!

edit; and nope again - need a US phone number if i dont have US payment details!

  • As stated earlier if your Amex isn’t working just change your zip code to be your normal Aussie postcode but with a 0 in front.

    • 0 at the end I believe

      • Front worked for me. Amex issues card

  • Great find OP!

Signed up for an account, currently paying for my sister's Hulu through a US PayPal I set up for it. Paid for this account with the same one and no issues.

Probably won't watch it much but for US 99c a month worth it for the times I can't find anything else to watch!

Just got this working on my firetv

disappointed I have to watch 2 minutes of ads before even getting into an episode!

How do people pay 8 bucks a month for this?

    • How do people pay 8 bucks a month for this?

People pay a lot more than that for Foxtel (which has a bucketload of ads too).

    • oh did you? my kids were watching various things for about 20mins and did get an ad. it was the AndroidTV app.

    • Agree, shows take forever to watch if not ad free.. BTW, I know a guy who picked up a 12 month ad free Hulu subscription, including HBO and Showtime, from Ebay US for an even better price. Not that I'm endorsing it. Apparently works fine with Getflix DNS but doesn't work when using their VPN.

  • Awesome!

I canceled old account and made a new one.
I was able to pay using my citibank debit card with no problems (just added a random us post code).

  • I just used a Citibank debit Mastercard card. I added a 0 to the postcode. Worked fine.

  • Any suggestions on how to get the app onto on Nvidia Shield so I can still use Australia Netflix?

  • Took a bit of finangling, but all good in the end.
    1. Logged into Getflix, made sure all regions were set to US.
    2. Didn’t want to apply the rate to my old Hulu account, so made a new one.
    3. Set up a US PayPal account using an old Best Buy gift card that had about 20c left on it and an old US sim number. But then clicked ‘Not now’ on confirming number.
    4. Logged into my Aussie PayPal and gifted the US one with $10USD.
    5. Added US PayPal account to Hulu, 99c payment went through off my PayPal balance.
    6. Success!

    • tried the same way and transfered $1us into us paypal account but still getting can't complete message from paypal.does the postcode you enter have to be the same as the one you setup the us paypal account with (i.e. fake us address)?

      • I used to live in the US so always use my old residential address. I think the trick was linking the old Best Buy gift card, which is an actual Visa issued card. I actually expected them to reject the payment.

    • How did you claim the money in the us PayPal without supplying a social security number?

      • +1

I think because it was an automated payment to Hulu it wasn’t flagged as a withdrawal, so a SSN wasn’t needed. I’m heading back in Jan so will stock up on prepaid cards then!

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got it working by using US PayPal account with Australian debit MasterCard.

  • I am not able to find the comment but somebody here mentioned adding a zero at the end of your actual postcode with amex works. And it did.

Thanks for this OP. i have signed up and added hbo and showtime.

    • I think you should check your account. Pretty sure adding those will make the monthly charge much more than 99 cents

      • It will but all those add-ons have free trials so provided you cancel them before the trial ends it won't cost anything unless the poster actually wants to keep them.

        • Just until i finish binge watching few series

Has anyone been able to create a new apple id? I tried but wont let me. Says something went wrong. I have other ids that i am using by chabging its region atm.

  • Thanks OP. US Paypal with my citi debit worked.

  • Hey guys i tried making a US paypal account but when i go to pay it says (cant setup pre approved payments at this time) is this a normal issue and is there a work around?

    • Was having the same grief all day. Tried 28degrees card and HSBC platinum through us PayPal but no go.
Opened another us PayPal account and used HSBC visa debit card and viola!
Used a random hotel address in California as well as its postcode. Hope this helps.

      • No go for me even on another card,Thanks for the advice tho

  • got it working with US paypal. Worth it just for king of the hill!

  • Bit late to the task but can confirm it’s working for me with Amex as direct payment method (zero added to the end of my actual postcode) and using DNS4me.

  • +1

signed up to Paypal US and used aussie debit card and used Getflix settings confirmed working.

  • I was able to pay with US PayPal account but after that I got locked out of my paypal account :-( Called PayPal US support but they are not able to get me back. They said I will have to cancel my account as my account failed the authentification process. Had the account for few months with no issue and this happens now. PayPal support not very helpful. I will have to wait 48 hours to even cancel the account.

    Anyone had a similar issue?

    • I created a US Paypal with no issues but when I tried to complete the details in Hulu it said Paypal account is restricted.
Now I can't use the US Paypal account for anything.
I have spoken to Paypal chat and sent some docs to see if they will remove the restrictions.
Might not be in time to gvet the deal tho :(

      • I had the same issue and just created another pp us account but this time used VPN through out the sign up session, then added load and go visa card. Worked sweet. Another tip make sure to use Oregon post code so U don't get hit with tax both when Hulu asks and Ur PayPal account

        • So just to confirm you used load and go visa from auspost? Going to try this method as nether my master card or visa cc work. :( Hope this does as i dont have access to Amex

  • I read some reviews that raved about how Hulu is better than Netflix. So I signed up and not only does it have ads (which defeats the purpose) but it's also lower quality and not nearly as userfriendly as Netflix. I think I'll cancel after my first month.

  • I was able to sign up easily with my Amex without my VPN on.
Btw sign up through the American Airlines shopping portal, there is a 1,500 miles offer for signing up. Not sure it will apply for the discounted membership but worth a shot.

  • I was able to sign up easily with my Amex and my VPN.

  • Hey guys new to the world of VPNs[never used it tbh]
I purchased the Windscribe deal for lifetime VPN.
Everytime i play any videos on Hulu it keeps saying its unavailable in my location. I changed my location to a US location but still no luck.
    Any Ideas?

    • You either haven't set up the VPN correctly or they know it's a VPN and are blocking you. Try a smartDNS service like Getflix rather than a VPN. It works better for streaming services (doesn't bottleneck through a VPN)and easier to set up.

    • I got the three year deal and chose one of the many US locations at first didn't work. But i tried the LA one and it did. Keep trying.

TV shows selection is great but ad sucks though.

  • How do you guys download the app? I wanted to checkout the selection but app store says this app isn't available

    • You mean for iOS? If so you need a us iTunes account. Easy to do. Google will find it for you

      • Yes thanks for the reply. I figured it out. Log in on my US account that I only used once before and it worked.

        Accepted my Citibank debit card.

  • Thanks! Worked with my Amex..

  • worked for me whilst on VPN, rejected my 28 degrees but accepted my amex

  • Anyone know if there's a way to set it up to cancel after 12 months?

    • Set/write a reminder on your preferred calendar.

      • I sent it to your calendar
