Guys just saw this on TV. Harvey Norman is having a 40% sale on all Toshiba laptops (no other brands get discount). The sale lasts until Sunday.

The ad specifies that it is NOT "up to 40%" but "40% off every Toshiba". It also says only at participating stores but didn't specify which one aren't in it but seeing how its a TV ad, I'm assuming that its the majority.

      To be honest, the people who 'buy' anti virus from Harvey Norman, are the ones that definately need it, as they obvioulsy have no idea about surfing the net. They are the ones the click on emails saying the 10 billions dollars in Nigeria are waiting for them, they just need to provide their bank details. Or the link in the pop up that says ' We have detected viruses on your computer, we will fix it after you pay us $99.95'

        Definitely true, I was more talking about the people on here who pay for it. I would have assumed people on this site would be smarter. Apparently I'm wrong though. :)

        honestly i don't think i ever needed an anti-virus…

        re-formatting is the best form of cleansing, but I haven't had the opportunity of doing it yet lol

          I haven't used anti virus in years. Spyware programs definately, anti virus. I reformat every 6 months or so, cleans it up very nicely.

    Just came back from OfficeWorks, bought a Toshiba C660, very basic 15.6 inch model, looks not too bad and have no drama running MYOB. $285 after price match.

    Just called OW Chadstone, was on hold for 12 min before they told me there's no 660s left in stock.

      Somethings not right…
      gstfree said he/she was at OW Chaddy 20 mins ago and they had a a whole pallet out on the floor. I'm guessing the person you spoke to either didn't care or didn't know.
      Am struggling with the Ozbargain rule 101: "it's not a bargain if you didn't need it in the first place", and the strong desire to get up and go buy one at 8am cos my lappy's a few year old (mostly just cos….)

          You got the price match at OW, so perhaps it was the last or one of the last ones, if what they told Ashlea is correct?
          Nevermind, $299 at HN is still excellent.

          OW staff took one out from its backyard, I've no idea how many stock they have.

          But I'm pretty sure HN Chaddy got a pallet stock around 6pm. However at $299, it must sell very fast.

        Nah, they were trying hard. Came back 3 or 4 times confirming specific model, apologised as they were searching for the pallet etc.

        I think gstfree simply didn't explain himself properly and the full pallet was at HN.

        EDIT: Oh, I also mentioned the pallet and they said they NEVER get full pallets of one laptop, even during sales.

        IMHO, RAM is like a condom (or a gun); better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it! (AVP, 2004). :p

        Could always put some spare RAM to use as a ramdisk I suppose! ;)

    The HN shop that I went on the weekend, doesn't want to match the Chadstone price for C660 ($299). Is this within their term and condition of price match?

      The Punchbowl HN did the same thing. Re: T&Cs, depends on things like whether the Chadstone place had it in stock; but I do find it irritating.

      The Punchbowl HN sold the L650/061 for $799 when most other stores were selling it for $599 - saw a poor guy get ripped off in that way (including buying extended warranty) yesterday. Sad, but then that HN has always been more expensive (i.e. rip off merchants) in that way. By comparison, I've always found the HN on O'Riordan St (Alexandria) to be fair in its pricing.

        Yes, Chadstone has stock. The guy from Chadstone even gave me the wrong info by saying that I will get 40% off the 299$. Luckily for him, I'm in Sydney :)

    Ended up buying a L650/OK5 for $753 and L650D/061 for $599. Pretty happy.
