All Toshiba Laptops 40% off at Harvey Norman

900

Guys just saw this on TV. Harvey Norman is having a 40% sale on all Toshiba laptops (no other brands get discount). The sale lasts until Sunday.

The ad specifies that it is NOT "up to 40%" but "40% off every Toshiba". It also says only at participating stores but didn't specify which one aren't in it but seeing how its a TV ad, I'm assuming that its the majority.

Where can I see which stores are in this sale?

  • good deal!

  • i saw this as well during the cricket on foxtel. I can confirm the above. I also remember seeing 'maximum one per customer'.

    EDIT: Here's the link.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/page/1256975275402/40-off-tos…

  • +5

knowing how overprice Harvey usually is, they probably jacked up the price by 40% before the sale……..

    • +1

Pretty sure they cant do that…

      • I'm sure JB HiFi can help them out with the calculations! :p

    • +7

oh well 16% off all Toshiba laptops is still good!

      • +14

Are you trying to redeem yourself after your previous mathematical screw up? hehehe

        • +7

          haha lol

          pfft. that wasn't me

          44+66 =100 am i right!

          in denial

        • Looks like sound maths right there to me :P

        • +1

Succinct and accurate, i am impressed.

    • +1

They will put the laptops up to full RRP then subtract 40% off that thereby still making them vastly overpriced compared to the competition.

      • +1

Yeah, thats right VASTLY overpriced… I mean, take the below deal into account. $1299 rrp with 40% off is $779.40, all we have to do is look at officeworks to see that at $1058, they're overpriced by… whoa… wait… hang on….

What prices were you referring to Cobalt_? Because I'm confused….

        • +2

Emotional much? Also Harvey Norman RRP =/ Vendor RRP. Until actual models and prices are posted this deal is nothing but marketing without substance.

        • +2

Exactly. It's a mystery to me why there are so many +'s when there's no specific deal mentioned or evidence of any good deals.

I'll reserve my + till later.

        • +2

Not emotional, I'll add a :-P to the end of my next post, just for you ;-) Just responding to an argument put forward with no examples.

RRP is the recommended price set by the manufacturer/supplier, not the retailer. Whether they advertise for that price is an entirely different story. However, a comparison between these 2 wonderful websites: http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/notebooks/satellite and http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/search?addFacet=def_system_producttype:Laptops&cat=Computers+(5):1255508442549 Will tell a clearer picture.

Marketing without substance? Perhaps… I don't see "All Toshiba 40% off" as lacking substance though. But I suppose that all depends on whether they have anything in stock. I suppose the next few days will tell all.

          :-P (Just for you)

        • +1

          @camelgrass

It's easy to understand why there are so many votes.

Gerry's makes all his new "online-sale chinese slaves in the warehouse" click the vote button.

Wait for it.. this'll be the first deal with 1 billion votes ever.

  • +2

Sure Gerry has a trick up his sleeve! Something stupid like all laptops must be purchased on finance with 10 year extended warranty. Would rather pay full price at any other retailer then give gerry the satisfaction of pocketing my money.

    • +3

      Gerry has gone online :O

      • -2

Isn't it opening in a few weeks? :o I'm excited for myfind v2.0

  • 40% off? Sure, Harvey Norman almost never has the best prices, but not even his stores can get away with marking up computer gear 20 to 30% higher than everyone else and still making sales.

The 'participating stores only' part has me wondering whether they'll dump old stock onto one store and have the sale there at full RRP…

    • +1

You'd be surprised - their ticket prices are often above RRP

  • +1

    just browsed the laptops.

one on harvey norman is $1299 but at Officeworks its only $1058!!

    • +14

$799.40 after discount seems to be a better price than $1058…

    • +2

And you're surprised at this? I assumed everyone on OzB would have known that shopping at Harvey Norman isn't standard practice, particularly for computers. That's why this is advertised as a SALE, not HEY HARVEY NORMAN HAVE AWESOME PRICES!

40% off $1299, so it'll be $780 on sale. That's $278 off the OW price.

Which gets me thinking. I wonder about price matches?

      • I'll + that just for being closer than Cluster with the price.

        • +2

$779.40, I believe, should have been more specific. 60c is a significant amount of money around these parts. ;)

        • +9

Don't knock it, 60c is enough to post a letter to the ACCC complaining about Gerry's sale tactics ;)

      • +1

OW Will price match! :D So another 5% Discount !

  • If it's legit on all it's products (which are in stock too) it's a sweet deal.

  • C650D/02U for $330 is appealing. Low-end laptop for netbook price.

    • If they have it?

      $549 is not necessarily RRP.

      • $549 based on the price I saw it for in Harvey Norman on the weekend. I got a photo too as I was considering it and was going to compare prices at other places, so if they try to claim a regular sale price of $699 I'll have a shot with a bit of argument.

        • Sorry my mistake, RRP is $599.

          http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/notebooks/satellite/c65…

Don't expect it to be on display though.

        • Yeah, definitely not expecting it, but pulling myself out of 8am for a chance at a $330 laptop with dedicated graphics is worth it. :P

        • Yeah can't go wrong for that price. But I don't think I'd ever want to pay much more than that for a low end Toshiba.

        • Yeah, their low end laptops are probably below the average for low-end. The nice benefit of Toshiba for me is having an official repair centre a 15 min drive from home.

        • bloody well done ashlea

        • Ashlea - I also have my eye on that model. If it happens that you rock up at the same store during opening and there is only one unit left, well… I may have to kill you for it ;)

Though it would be funny watching you throw a tantrum to save $30 off of the real RRP.
If they say to me $360, based on a an 'inflated' RRP of $599 then I might just have to tell them to stick it.
Hate shoddy/deceptive retailers that just seem to operate loosely within the confines of the law.

  • +5

Be careful, the ad was careful in saying that there was very limited stock (beware of bait and switch) and the ad also gave me the impression that not all stock will be on display for the sale (and conveniently 'nothing out the back either').

  • +27
    • +3

LMAO gerry harvey and his goons

      • +1

OMG, so you're saying he's not just a corporate/business criminal?

    • I laughed so hard. Thanks mate!

    • Hahahaha, comedy gold!

    • You made me LOL hard xD tyvm.

  • +1

Had a bit of a sniff around the Toshiba site.
I'd say the L650/OFN is probably the best balance of specs vs value from this lot.
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973211776/toshiba…
Should be ~ $570 unless Gerry pulls a swifty with the RRP.
@Ashlea, that C650D/02U might be cheap now but disappoint later due to inherent averageness of the processor struggling with W7 and whatever you've got running. Still, if your thinking "big netbook" for $330 maybe…

    http://apcmag.com/notebookhunter/toshiba-satellite-c650d02u.…

    • Since RRP for C650D/02U is $599, then HN sale price would be $359.40 and not $330.
RRP for L650/0FN is $999 and sale price would be $599.40

      • Quite right, although the ad states "Discounts are off normal ticketed prices"
        However you interpret that.
See above, Ashlea is going to "get them" to hold to the ticketed price of $549 for the C650D/02U, thus $330.

        • Going to TRY ! lol

        • +1

          Anyone's guess/roll the dice
Still, I have a store a few blocks away trying to overcome the urge to go buy one.
Specially tricky as I've just got the "old faithful" lappy humming nicely after a rebuilding XP and doing the drivers dance (where the f did I put the disk for the printer etc)

          camelgrass, your comment evaporated?
Making my answer … kind of odd…

        • Just saw your comment and deleted mine, you said what I said. hehe.

        • Gotcha ;)

      • C650D/02U doesnt have hdmi ? please dont buy any laptop without it.. i regretted myself. just my 2cents

        • Some people might actually just want to use a laptop as a laptop. Weird, huh?

        • hmmm with all tvs now has hdmi, imagine how convenient it is to just come to your friends house with just hdmi cable and able to stream out things you want to share.
well, its very handy feature ,really.

        • +1

Very handy yes, deal breaker no

    • thanks. since this post I've been sniffing too at higher spec units. I can't work out what I should get at all.

The hard drive RMP is one thing that is getting me as they are all 5400RPM and I wanted 7200. so out of the other specs I can't work out what combination i prefer - its hard for me to work out best value for money eg The high spec units have a lower processor speed. Hard drive size is not important, but I want speed since I normally run a lot of programs at once.

      • +1

Spend some money and get an SSD? Although they come with their own problems.

Turn the machine over and see if you can access the hdd by undoing a few screws. Then you can upgrade it yourself.

      • +1

As the post above, rip out the 5400RPM and put in a SSD.

        You won't regret it!

  • Is this netbook gonna be a good buy?
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973370143/toshiba…

Original $499 would now become $300.

      JB have it for $548

seems like a great buy from harvey if you can get it!

      • Why are you looking at brick and mortar shops? They are always overpriced when compared to online dealers. Especially when they are Australian brick and mortar shops.

      • That laptop is EOL and no longer available for order from JB's. Not exactly a fair price comparison. Use staticice instead.

  • Like I woke up at 6:30am and saw the 40% ad on TV before I had my morning coffee and thought I was dreaming about Gerry. I need a laptop so if it is a genuine sale then I will hopefully walk out of the store this morning with a new Toshiba model.

  • Note that the second coming of sandy bridge is due to be released soon in some new models with i3/i5/i7 processors. Toshiba's AU site hasn't got details but the europe site does. Read somewhere that there were due to be release in Q2.

Decks being cleared? Is so, will be replicated elsewhere.

  • +1

I bet none of these are sandybridge :)

  • so this Toshiba laptop should be around the $1130 mark?

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973225983/toshiba…

  • Has anyone got anything worthwhile yet? I'm going there at lunch break so leave me one!! :P

  • Is this australia wide? or just in WA?

    • +4

      Wed-Sat in WA
      Thurs-Sun elsewhere.

Maybe they moved the international date line?

  • should be noted this is also available at Joyce Mayne (was on tv commercial this morning….Newcastle,NSW area)

  • +1

my local has lots of the C660/01C for $499 less 40% = $300 (per telephone) Chadstone - Vic
    (specs herehttp://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/notebooks/satellite/c660/psc0la-01c01h/specifications#details)very basic, very cheap

    • +6

Is Chadstone like some sort of superstore? Every time I see something on OzBargain, Chadstone seems to have loads of whatever it is, in stock. You VIC boys and girls are lucky.. us New South Welshman have to run like scattered ants to try and find something.

    • +2

Lol, FG store say that C660/01c model is $359 after discount, and tried their a$$es off to get me to buy a more expensive model. The salesguy even tried the old line "if you want to download photos onto the laptop then you need a much more powerful model"…..lol! So I may contact Chadstone.

      Another scamtest from Gerry.

Don't get Gerried. Make sure you get past the cr4p these guys talk.

    • got at least 20 units as of 2pm

  • picked up a Toshiba (i3, 2gb, 320gb) for $450 after discount. Not much of a saving since a Acer equivalent is $500 (after cash back) but I needed one around that price. Plenty of stock at Auburn at 9.01am but absolutely no C660/01C in stock.

    • +1

Thats a huge saving considering the other choice was Acer, more than just money ;p

    • Toshiba > Acer

    • out of interest what model did you pick up for $450?

  • Sold out in QV Melbourne CBD

    • +1

QV never has anything. Its like the worst HN store in Victoria

      • +1

its not a store. only a showroom.

      • Agreed

  • The ad also said 40% off 'full priced' so everything is going to be rrp

    • +1

Even at 40% off Harvey's prices are still only average value

you can get a new Dell XPS 15 for $1100 with much better specs than most of these Toshiba models and 2nd gen intel to boot

  • +1

I went there 9am this morning. No STOCK for all cheap model.

    • +2

The offer was trying to lure the customer and make a waste trip to his store. that's all.

      • For cheap i3 Model, I saw they have 30 units stock "available" but 29 "on order" and only 1 display for sell. I was there before they open the door, I didn't see 29 people before me.

        • They had plenty of C650s in Auburn. Picked one up myself. Maybe people rang up and put them on order?

  • +2

Just went in to HN Woden in Canberra:

"Do you have any C650's in stock?"

"Let me check … err, no. It says they are discontinued."

"They are still on your website."

"Is there anything else I can help you with?"

I give a look that says "What do you think" and walk out.

The cheapest thing they had on floor was $780 after the 40%, ie no laptops in stock that were under min $1300 before the sale.

    See you later Gerry!

Then again, my sweet illuminated Logitech keyboard arrived today. Down to $55 delivered from $180 - thanks for the heads up on THAT one guys!

    • +1

lol that sounds like all the HN stores i've ever been to

Still not as bad as a guy i know who works at QV store in Melb CBD telling me they were taking some
toshiba models off the floor as to not lose money (mostly low end models)
I Mod: Foul L@nguage hate Gerry Harvey and his rip off shops - hope ACCC shuts him down and bankrupts him

Will O/works pricematch the 40% off this weekend? and do they still give u an extra 5% off?
If so thats were ppl should be buying from

    • why did you make a look that says "what do you think"

why not just say "what do you think"

      serves for a better story

  • Does anyone know if this model is available anywhere?

    Toshiba Satellite T230/028 ULV Laptop

    • There were 2 in Woden, Canberra, but at $780. At $1200 (on their website), they should be $720.

    • +1

yes the have one at Nunawading HN this morning however I bought L630/063 instead with i5 2.5ghz rather than i3 1.3ghz.

  • +3

Have just come back from Harvey Norman and can confirm they have indeed jacked up the prices, even from their own website.

Looked to be about an extra $200 on the normal value of the laptop on average. It's still a deal I suppose, but along with their heinous extended warranty, don't go in thinking you'll be paying %40 off the price listed.

Also. I hate Harvey Norman… F@#$%@s.. just had to get that off my chest.
