woke up with a random sore throat

I'd get that checked out, could be an STD.

    • STI these days.

    • Could also be tonsilitis, which i found out I have yesterday after having a sore throat for the last few days. If you get other symptoms like headaches or coughing up phlegm, go see your doctor.

      • Did you have to get your tonsils removed?

        • Have you got tonsils, Kitty?

        • No, just on antibiotics and rest for the next few days.

@messiah1095: Not sure, but I think I read somewhere that they don't routinely remove them these days.

            • @Scab: Yeah he never mentioned getting them removed so I figured it must have been a milder case of it. He also recommended using cepacaine to help with the sore throat but have found panadol to be more effective in my case.

  • Got 5. Thanks OP!

    $0.99 here (16 pack) - https://goo.gl/gH826C

    • Do they do free delivery?

    • Wonder when they expire.

    • Yep, that explains the retail margins this kind of products have. Cost of making Strepsils is hardly any different to making lollies…

      • Looks more like a loss leader to me

        • For the pharmacy probably, yes. But if you track all the costs from buying the raw material plus packaging, from the factory to importer, from the importer to the wholesaler, from the wholesaler to the retailer, his rent, shelf space, etc, I bet you end up with less than those US$0.99.

All the other things are overheads for marketing and profit margins at the various levels of the distribution chain.

With a bit more efficiency (and some competition as a motivation) along all those steps they could be priced like these.

Edit: Indeed, thinking about that: why isn't there any competition? Why aren't there Stroples from Aldi? Might be a business idea…

          • @team teri: You could say that about any manufactured goods though.

And the reality is that while the goods may not cost much, there are people costs which contribute the most

  • I just wish the other flavours were the same price, this one is by far the one I like least.

  • According to Camel3 this is actually a high price for them, they were $4.94 on Nov 23 and 24.

    • It's over 7 everywhere else and this is the cheapest right now.

      • I didn't neg, thanks for making me aware that Amazon stocks those :-)

But since my throat is ok right now I'll chance it and wait for the price to drop back down :-P

Worst feeling knowing that you purchased something that has been cheaper recently.

  • +2

Thank you, just grabbed a few. Now I just need a sore throat to go with my purchase.

  • I'm always surprised when distress purchases trend on the homepage….only really useful if you have a sore throat or planning to in the next 2+ days after delivery :p

I guess there's always enough of the population currently sick to upvote.

    • +1

They normally last for two years so you can just store them easily and use them whenever you need or want lmao

    • +1

The worst thing when you’re sick is having to navigate the crowded narrow aisles of Chemist Warehouse. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

  • It is showing $7.99 here

    • same!

    • looks like they boosted the price
