Can I use this with a6000 to take passport photos?
Well… you could use anything to take a passport photo, but this will be 24mm equivalent on an A6000, which I'd say is too wide for portrait photos but there's no reason you can't crop them to suit.
Far too wide for portraits. Use your kit lens at between 40 and 50mm (cropped) for the most flattering outcome.

I am yet to receive X-E3 from teds. I bought a d750 and 35 50 and 135 sigma lenses. Love that setup but its extremely inconvenient to carry the kit around on regular weekends or overseas trip which i am planning next year. All these dslrs are very heavy. So decided to go mirrorless and found out fuji makes extra ordinary kit lens and primes unlike Nikon.
Comparing this to the Sigma 30mm, what would most people buy if they could only have one prime lens (for both photos and videos)?
Go for the 16mm if you mainly shoot landscapes or the 30mm for everything else.
I've got the Sony 50mm 1.8. Amazing clarity for the price. Ive also owned the samyang 12mm 2.0 prime. Not so sharp, but a beautiful focal length.
I got both the 30mm and 16mm with my Sony A6500. They are both excellent lens. 30mm is good for portraits and the 16mm for outdoor. The 16mm is slightly wide angle so covers more area. I realised that 16mm is good for indoor photography when you need to cover wide area or more people in one frame. Need to drop it a bit later but gets more coverage.
My 2 cents.It is perhaps sort of OK for group shots, but a 45mm equivalent is not a very flattering portrait focal length. You want to get over at least 80mm full frame equivalent, and preferably 135mm, if not longer.
An f2.8 24-70mm zoom is generally regarded as the best single lens all rounder. For a prime a 50mm equivalent is recommend, so a 30mm Sigma is probably a good value option for you. Though if you get into this photography thing you are going to miss not having a wide angle lens at times, and if taking portraits you will be wanting a 70-200mm. Is there an f2.8 16-35mm option? Not sure what your options are on Sony though, apart from that a Sony brand lens will normally cost a small fortune.
