      more than good enough.

    • The screen is poor for gaming, I recently puchased the intel version for a family member and would not recommend it for gaming, it’s slow and has very narrow viewing angles. Fine for desktop stuff though eventhough its a TN.

      AMD better than before

  • low to medium gameplay with tomb raider in case someone's curious about the vega 10 apu on this

  • Just keep in mind this (also the intel 5570) heat up big time.

The cooling system is too small and is vented into the hinge. Its all done to save space (like the ethernet jack having a sliding door), but in my mind it’s impractical.

The 15 7000’s with the 1050ti can often be found under a grand on DFO, I’d recommend that for low end gaming on laptop. It has a much nicer screen too.

    • 7000 is very nice, but can be quite bulky, the fan is loud. Otherwise it is a good piece. I also have the XPS13, very nice laptop though

      • The 7000s are huge with giant fan vents so a 1050 or 1060 isn't throttled to the point of being useless due to the heat. (For video games or heavy processor work).

This is a good work laptop, as are the xps series. Not a gaming laptop.

        • I used both series, XPS beats 7000 any days, but not a gaming laptop

    • Just curious - is there any diy guide to improve on the thermal like adding thermal paste etc?

      • If there was a way to put good gpus in tiny areas with better heat dissapation, we would just be using that to make graphic cards even better.

There isn't a secret. You just can't have a high powered Slimline laptop or Ultrabook, because after twenty minutes of any intensive gameplay or modeling, the CPU and GPU are going to need to be throttled.

What you can do is use tools to throttle the GPU or cpu (underclocking) so it doesn't get hot to begin with, if you don't want to do any gaming or graphic intensive work etc.

  • Hey guys, I need a family use laptop but with a caveat, need to be able to edit drone videos using Adobe and DaVinci. How will this laptop perform and is the screen good enough for such tasks? I ask these questions in light of some of the above comments. Thanks lads

    • XPS or Macbook Pro? Maybe?

      • +1

        XPS

    • If the drone footage is 4k at 60fps you'll need a hi end XPS I suspect.

The issue I have with this laptop is the 1x1 antenna wifi, I expect that on sub $600 laptops not $1k+. It's a weird cost saving measure, it can't cost more than a few dollars for a 2x2 and is one of those things that can make a decent spec laptop feel really slow.

  • What are the screens like on the Inspiron range? Low reflective / glare?

  • Ryzen 7 2700U cpu in comparison to other laptop cpus.

I didn't buy this laptop but during the end of September Ebay sale, I grabbed this one. I was messaged by Dell the next day saying they ran out of stock. Instead of cancelling my order or trying to upsell me, they offered me a free upgrade to the G5 15 laptop. It came with a bonus Alienware mouse (crap mouse but still a good bonus).

The shipping was horrible and was delayed constantly. However, a Dell rep personally emailed me once a week to give me an update.

Dell has amazing customer service and would definitely recommend doing business with them.

You're lucky, G5 is much better.

  • TN screen. :( IPS would be better…Lenovo E585 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414092) regularly goes on sale…

  • So this Dell better or the Lenovo L380 (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-L380-13-3-Ultrap…) which has USB-C charging but $55 more (after discount) ?

This is not for gaming but web and document editing, maybe some amateur graphics editing… need to be sub $1000 + SSD HD and good battery life….

    • graphic editing need a good graphic drivers which Intel is not known for. And rendering images will be sluggish on that igpu.

    • I think the screen resolution is 1366x788. Would have grabbed this one if the screen was at least FHD.

TN screen kills this deal. Avoid it.

  • Has anyone received yet?
