    Wife's xmas present sorted… Thanks.

Mods, can we have a special religion category that we can just hide from our feed so I don't have unnecessary spam clogging my deals?

Or failing that, could we at least have stricter guidelines? There's so many free audiobooks from random websites, why is this different!

    • +3

It's not mandatory to click and read the posts…

    • at least have stricter guidelines

Guidelines for freebies are pretty clear…

There's so many free audiobooks from random websites, why is this different!

      Some people like free audiobooks.

        Some people like free audiobooks.

Oh, if that is the case I'm sure the community won't mind if I make a post every couple of hours about some random website on the web having a free audiobook! Literally type "free audiobooks" into Google and you get hundreds if not thousands of freebies. Do they all deserve their own post?

        • -1

Yes please looking forward to more great deals!

        • Oh, if that is the case I'm sure the community won't mind if I make a post every couple of hours about some random website on the web having a free audiobook!

Go for it… Lots of others do.

@jv: I think it would be classed as Spam. Furthermore, I don't want to have to rely on Ozbargain "pressure points" to further the problem.

You can get almost any book for free if you want.

A setting to block religious deals would be great because it would not only weed out those just doing it for attention, it would also not affect those seriously upvoting the deal. Hence (in theory), we are just left with good religious content for those that want. And for those who don't want, they don't have any! Ozbargain becomes less toxic in these threads. Sounds like everyone is better off?

Is it posted from a Rep?

Is it something they normally charge for and now free, or is it always available for free?

              • -1

@jv: Is this a good image for Ozbargain?
Front page deal. This one just started 18 hours ago and look how's its blown up. This always happens.

                • @pennypincher98: Just because you're an atheist doesn't mean you should impose your beliefs on others.

                  • +3

@jv: Funnily enough I was raised Catholic/Anglican (different parents), attended Catholic education and would still classify as a Christian. I appreciate the morals and values its taught me and understand it's place in society.

However, I don't believe in using a bargaining website to market religion. It looks desperate and to be frank, it is. People can make up their own mind.

Something from 1838 should always be free. It's not copyrighted.

Copyright in text, images and music lasts for 70 years after the year of the creator's death, even if the creator does not own copyright. The period was extended from 50 to 70 years in 2005, but only for content that was still in copyright on 1 January 2005.

Why? We have freedom of religion in this country.

You're free to listen or ignore…

                      • +3

@jv: Yes, we have freedom of religion or not to choose a religion and everyone should respect that.

It's like waving a steak in front of a vegetarian all day and say you're free to look or you can ignore. We have freedom to choose but we can still pester you (I'm not a vegetarian btw).

People know the choice is there.

@jv: Everyone should respect someone's decision. They shouldn't be pestered by people (not just this post - think broader) so intent in their belief (which is great they are so faithful) that they spend their whole life trying to get others to change their ways and beliefs.

The door is open to everyone. People shouldn't feel obligated to go, they should go of their own free will.

                              Exactly.

                              • @jv: Oh sweet irony.
Here we are, saying we both should respect someone's decision.

Respecting doesn't mean accepting. But accept most people probably won't change their religion entirely and respect that.

Nobody's asking you to change your religion. Lots of people would appreciate the free audiobook though… They make great Kris Kringle presents for work. But then again, if you don't believe in Santa, that won't be much good to you either…

                                  • @jv:

Well that's exactly what they are trying to do. Spreading the word has been practiced for centuries. Everyone is convinced that their branch of Christianity is better so I don't worry about following any denomination in particular.
The matter is not with the denominations themselves, but the opinionated people who are within them.

                                      Here, try this instead…

@jv: This has gone full circle.
If atheists were to have as much of a presence as religious people, I'm willing to bet people wouldn't have the same mentality.

Obviously I don't endorse that, but can't we all just get along?
Realising people are different with different beliefs. A lot of people are backing out of religion (look at the Census) purely because it's getting too caught up in itself.

Btw I've already downloaded that, thanks for reminding me to upvote :)

Clogging? How did you figure that out? Black Friday was clogging Ozbargain with all those deals coming in by the minute. You would spend more time browsing through deals than actually working if you were going to look at all.

      • +1

Black Friday had its own section for those looking specifically at Black Friday deals.
To be honest, some black friday deals were actually great with actual savings.

        • This is not about it being great or bad, but about so many deals, that is clogging as they were coming in like it was rush hour. And this is not a complaint, but observation of how you complain that this is clogging your deals, when in fact there are few posts about religion here, and me stating that there was huge number of Black Friday posts that were clogging Ozbargain.

          • @bargainparker: Look at the net votes in comparison.

            • @pennypincher98: Votes about what?

              • @bargainparker: I couldn't post an updated version because you had already replied..
You know how the voting system works here, surely. People value their time.

Basically - there are certain things that are sure to create a shitstorm on Ozbargain. Politics, ethics, organic/free range etc, religion and guns namely.

There's no shortage on free religious material. I get handed something most days. There's a wealth of stuff on the internet. The Bible is free, but it's not a deal yes?

                • @pennypincher98: Well, I know how the voting system works, just that I don't see the connection as all I said was that you complained about too many religious deals clogging Ozbargain, when in fact there are very few being posted and giving an example of Black Friday deals which were in fact clogging Ozbargain, and it didn't have anything to do whether Black Friday deals were good or bad.

If you get handed something on most days, I guess they see you are an easy pick. But, that still has nothing to do with religion clogging your deals. You may get stuff handed to you most days, but I don't see religious post on Ozbargain every day.

I go through city centre every day, yet I am not being handed something religious most days, so you must do something for them to keep giving you something most days. One of things I don't do is, I don't make eye contact, though I haven't noticed any difference even if I do look at someone who propagate who knows what religion.

  • Have read this several times and it is still relevant and powerful for today's world. Will get this for commuting/driving. Thanks OP.

    • I've memorised and recite it when I'm sleeping.

I would pay for this audiobook narrated by Scab.

Didn't help me, I'm still sinning.

      • And you will, till the day you die. You are born sinner and you die sinner. Shaving won't help you either.
