  • Cheapest on StaticIce seems to be $409, so this could be another loss-leader at HN like their recent Saturday Promotion and Toshiba deals?

Anyone know how long has this camera been on market?

    • +2

This camera was reviewed in August 2010 and released in September 2010.

  • Previous ozbargain deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/41156 price was $288

At wow sight and sound for $298, free shipping too.

Bit more expensive but better availability.

  • loss leader once again, how are all these francises going to survive

    • it's HN what do you expect, he's probably making a few bucks out of this

    • +3

The francise stores do not have to honour this price. Only the store that the price was advertise at has to honour it. (For those who get the flyers from Auburn it's stated on the last page in the fine print, that the advertised price is only for the Auburn store.)

  • i saw these in japan last year and was so close to buying one, might pick one up when i am in sydney next. or try HN bundall

  • Bought one a couple of months ago from HN when they were $348, then took it back when I found they were going for around $220-250 new on ebay. I've had a lot of fun with mine!

what does a photo look like when it has been printed out? is there anything that differentiates it from a normal 2D photo?

      • Im not sure if we have it in Australia yet but in Japan you can print it out in 3D. Im fairly sure you can show the photos on a 3D tv as well…

      • Ahh. Well you can't print out glassesless 3D photos (yet). You could print out side-by-side images and view them using the crosseyed method (the same way magic eye images work) or by using viewing aids such as a Holmes viewer http://tinyurl.com/holmesviewerebay or an el-cheapo version http://tinyurl.com/elcheapoebay

Or you could convert the image into anaglyph using Stereo Photo Maker http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/so you can print it out and view it with red/cyan glasses.

      • I'd be interested in hearing where you can get affordable short-run lenticular prints. What I meant was you can't print them out from your home printer except using the methods I described ie: side-by-side or anaglyph.

  • I've been playing with the 3D photography feature in my Nintendo 3DS. It's a neat little gimmick. If I didn't already have a point-and-shoot camera to complement my DSLR I'd look to buy the W3. Nintendo's camera is far too low resolution and doesn't work well in low light, but Fuji's product looks great.

Harvey Norman at Moore Park also has a pile (quite literally http://www.flickr.com/photos/18672950@N00/5586406817) of them at a slightly higher $258.00ea.

My 2.2c* worth on these, in terms of image quality, great for entry-level 3D video but 2D stills look like results you'd get from a $79 Vivitar or yum-cha 'Panisonyanonpus' camera.

  • Great Camera

I got burned with an early Fuji digicam, so never again for me. The autofocus thought I lived in some american soap opera, really soft focus.

All manufacturers make some dud models. Fuji has made some of the best compacts in their class, you just need to do some research before you buy.

      • Yes, Fuji has their own CCD and COMS and perfect Lens.

    • Well it was a Fuji S602 zoom, I got it pretty much on release and it cost a fair bit. And I basically never got an auto mode in-focus shot out of the damn thing. Photos looked fine when reviewed zoomed in on the camera screen or TFT viewfinder, but were blurry when viewed on a PC later.

Based on that I swore never to buy Fuji ever again, and I haven't so far, thats been 5 digital cameras ago for me.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but it pissed me off no end, and those photos can't be taken again.

  • It's not a loss leader, just a great buy for the customer :)

  • seems pretty good, the camera has features that tick all the boxes. i just dont feel that interested in 3d anymore.

no serious film has or will be made in 3d i think. only fun and exciting ones are, and they get a bit boring at times.

  • I got one and it works very well

  • I struggle to find a use for having a "3D camera". Seems a bit gimmicky IMO.

  • That's a really funky looking cam!

  • Pardon my ignorance, but what's a "3D camera"?

  • Bad news if you bought one of these cameras and wanted prints in 3D.
At this stage a service in Australia for printing 3D images shot on the W1 and W3 cameras is in development, and we unfortunately do not have an ETA on when it will be ready, or any further details about costs or how the service will operate.
