Covers an area of 1.5 square meters

That's only if you apply it at a 1 inch thickness…

If you buy a m³ instead, it will cost about half that per 40 ltr bag…

    • Also consider mulch is available for free from many council refuse sites (tips), and it does the same general thing. Maximum haul is at least 2 million tons free.

      • +5

The only problem with the mulch from the council refuse sites is that it has seeds of invasive plants in it which can then grow in your garden.

And the problem gets worse. Ants took over our homes, maniac bush, crazy ants, everywhere for years, but the mulch was free so the cheap approach is possibly not worth it.
I guess you might need to wrap up the mulch for a year to kill everything in it, don't really know, but I just keep getting it anyway when needed.

@[Deactivated]: i chuck it into the chicken pen for my chooks to dig up and eat any weeds or insects. Then use it after the chooks have turned it and manured it.

you guys are lucky, brisbane council doesnt have tip with free wood chips anymore.

As well as your local park.

There were piles of it dumped at ours early November… BYO wheelbarrow though.

Also I asked a couple of tree loppers once, and one delivered a truckload free.
As it was convenient/cheaper for them than the tip.

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks…

I'll drop buy our local lumberjack club next time they meet and see what work they have coming up locally.

  • 40L of Acacia acuminata bark for $5, now that would be encouraging and illuminating.

    Remember pine is termite food

      This, would never use it.

Think only Cypress Pine is termite-resistant.

This is why I come to Ozbargain, forever learning stuff I never knew.

    • Where I live was previously paddocks. Do I need to think about termites at all in a new house landscaping considering not a tree within a few K? So far been putting down red gum chips are they ok?

      • +3

Red Gum is one of the better ones.

But all mulches can be attractive to termites as they provide a moist, warm and stable environment.

  • If you have the time to wait and aren’t concerned about what trees are in your mulch, I’ve used https://www.mulchnet.com/ for verges and large areas of exposed soil that would otherwise be overwhelmed by weeds.

  • Where's MathNerd when you need them?

    Half price would be $4.49, not $4.95 (44.88%) ;)

Ohh yeah.. I can add Almost ;-)

Thank OP. Loaded my car to the Windows last night and they needed to price match the website. Was going to head back after work today for more but the price has gone back up to $8.98
