  • Kind of wanted one for a while, cheap enough to give it a shot. Hopefully I can get it to work with my air con unit and I can turn it on and off remotely.

    • +4

I've had one for a while, had no issues setting it up with my aircon. We had a 38 degree day last week, used the app to turn it on before I left work and it worked well, came home to a nice cool house :)

Also integrates with Google Home as well for when I'm feeling even lazier still.

    • Perfect timing for me, been waiting to get another. I've mine integrated with Home assistant and it works brilliantly.

      • +1

Does it require any bridge with HA?

  • Supposedly the Rf isn't that great on these based on YouTube reviews

    • +3

I've got one and haven't noticed any issues with range or anything - I should note I use it solely with "Home Assistant", I've never used their software/phone app.

      • What do you use on rf

    • Yeah, I can't get my RF to work at all. When I try to learn a RF signal, it just fails..

      • This is dependent on the security level of the RF codes used. Situations requiring higher security (e.g. garage roller door, car door locks) require a secure RF system, so for this manufactures use 'rolling codes' where the system transmits a different code each time, making it hard to copy. At least that's how I have understood it.

The RM Pro is only able to learn simple RF codes, like the Jaycar RF wall sockets.

        • -1

I’m trying to learn a Bose sound system remote which uses RF, does that classify as higher security?

    • I have it tucked at the back of the arm of my couch and I've been able to control my media stuff no problem, even though it seems like it might be partially obscured by cushions and stuff. But that's only about 2m away, so I can't say how effective it is with a longer distance.

It works great, I've programmed some custom commands with a Homebridge plugin to better automate my media setup and have it work with HomeKit and Siri.

      • RF doesnt require line of sight, thats the point of it

Found the below in the description…

"There are two of the old version and new version for RM2 PRO, and it will be sent at random. Please make sure that you would not mind about that before purchase. Thanks for your order and understanding!"

    • Thanks have updated OP

    • +1

So pot luck whether it will work with Alexa then…

      • Should be able to do a firmware update on them to get them to work with Alexa

      • +3

Integrate it with home assistant. You'll be able to control either model with Alexa, Google or Siri!!!

    • What is the difference between the old and new version?

  • Their remote learning on this is a bit iffy. There is a trick to get it working and you may have to do it a few times. When in learning mode, I found that I needed to press the button on my remote and count to 3 mississippis, otherwise it won't learn the remote button code properly.

Also, for some reason, it can turn my aircon on and off using the app, but Google Assistant will say it doesn't know anything about the mode when I try to turn my aircon off using Google Assistant, but Google Assistant can turn on my aircon just fine.

    • +1

Google Assistant (and Amazon Echo too for that matter) is very finicky with which words you use. I can't get it to turn on/off my TV saying "TV" or "television" so I have to say "telly" instead which it hears as "telli" so that's what I've set it to. It's real PITA.

      • Well, the dumb thing is, "Hey Google, turn on the aircon" works perfectly fine, but if I say "Hey Google, turn off the aircon", it says the mode is unsupported or something similar. I have a feeling this has to do with the Broadlink device API rather than Google Assistant. My aircon settings in the app is a pre-defined set of controls, whereas controlling my fan, commands are learned through learning mode, it works perfectly fine.

        • Have had this issue too. Sometimes it helps to say it around the other way. e.g. "Hey Google turn the aircon off"
          Might be worth a try.

          • @full0085: Or go into the Home app on your phone and setup some single command routines. "Routines" normally allow you to input a phrase to GH that can run multiple commands at once, but you can also use it to run just one command with a new phrase.

Broadlink support is well known to be poor. It's like the child that seems smart and shows promise but never quite meets expectations.

  • From memory Xiaomi have a similar product in their range but can't remember what it is called or how much?

  • +1

Anyone know if this model works with Foxtel remotes (the old IR style remotes, not the newer Bluetooth remotes)… have previously bought the black bean mini Broadlink and the Xiaomi Universal remote and neither of these would work :(

    • +1

The broadlink app doesn't seem to work with my iQ3 despite having "Foxtel" listed in pre-configured devices. I will use my old IR remote to program it at some stage.

I currently have an RM2 Pro controlling my Fujitsu aircon, Big Ass fan, Samsung TV, and Yamaha receiver. Would not work with my Acmeda roller blinds unfortuntely. The Broadlink app is pretty good for aircon, allowing you to set temps, fan speeds, etc.

    • IR is a pretty simple technology, you should be able to program it manually if the presets don't work.

  • -3

I use this to integrate with Google Home. Very good indeed after some initial setup.

  • Does anyone know if this will work with 5GhZ wifi? I had one of the broadlink mini 3's the little black cylinder one and it doesn't work with my wifi anymore. (I use a dual 2.4 / 5ghz network with band steering enabled).

    • +1

Unfortunately it only supports 2.4Ghz. It is still a good unit.I have it controlling a few things in my home office. I bought one from this deal for the lounge room.

  • possible 5% cashback through cashrewards. But this discount coupon isn't listed on cashrewards, so might not work.

  • This is such a great deal! I bought one from lightinthebox for USD $29.66 only 2 weeks ago.
But at his price, I should buy some more (to give to family for smart-home control). I tried to buy 2 in one purchase but the code wouldn't apply to both. So I bought one, then bought a second using the code.

    • Received mine today. 28th Dec.

careful of rosegal. i get systray popups from them about sales when i never installed any add ons or anything with my permission. Their site (that i dont have open) somehow sends popups to my computer. Their response is they dont isntall anything and to clear my cache even though i get it with no internet browsers open….

    • +2

It sounds like you may have opted into notifications for their site. Check your browser settings.

      • checked everywhere including plugins. their response was they dont do any of that yet here i get notifications. some dodgey $hite

    • +1

Yeah definitely got their notifications enabled.. need to go to chrome settings > content settings > notifications and find it in the allow list

  • I have one, its pot luck whether it will work with your air con. Mine was a new Mitsubishi and I had to program he buttons manually. pain in the ass

  • +1

    I have one, its ok.

RF - it's not great at learning from some devices. Anything that sends a one time broadcast will be a pain. You have to trick it into going into learning mode using something else that has a constant broadcast.

IR - Works as expected. Haven't had issues there.

Google Home integration is crap. You have to make "scenes" which then trigger the actual function. So to turn on a fan you'd tell Google "Activate fan switch scene". Luckily you can tell Google Home to infer another command like "Turn on fan" to really mean "Activate X scene"

    • Surprised it took so long for someone to say this instead of the blind praise at the start the comments

Many peopl who bought this will be very disappointed with the shitty google home integration which requires you to read forums which should simple to do

Someones i wonder about half the comments on posts like these. Just plain wrong or they are talking about a different product

    • Btw i can get google to recognise them as lamps but no dice on the scenes.. how did yoh do it?

      • +1

Scenes are activated in Google home. So…

In the ihc app, make your scene do what you need it to. Call the scene something descriptive - ie "fan on"

In Google Home app go to settings > Assistant > Routines and make a new routine.

When I say "turn on fan"
My Assistant should "active fan on"

Repeat for all the actions you want to be usable in a sane way.

  • I have found that all these Broadlink based devices seem to only have limited functions for the two types of air conditions we have. It doesn't support the Panasonic Powerful/Quite modes. On the Mitsubishi it often seems to point the horizontal vanes when not requested to.

If you aren't using the RF side of things, you might be better off with the Mini. The only item you would also miss is the thermometer, which I have found isn't particularly accurate. I think once it was lucky enough to almost have the correct temperature. I ended up installing a dedicated and more accurate WiFi connected thermometer and humidity sensor.

    • Wait, this thing has a built-in thermometer? How do I access it?

      • The version I have. It just shows up in the Broadlink app on the page for air conditioner controls.

        • Ah ok, I don't use it for aircon but I would like to be able to see temperature regardless.

  • So are most people using these to control stuff while they are at home or when they are away and want to remotely control something?

  • I cannot get it connected to my Hisense P7 TV. Anyone has better luck? If I cannot pass this hurdle, it is next to useless to me with Alexa or Google.

  • How do these people get away with sending you one or the other at random? What if that's crap and they are sending everyone the old one?

  • RF is useless for garage door because of rolling code.
Therefore, I’m after the IR only version on sale.

  • I been looking at getting one of these for a long time, hoping to use with RF and Alexa. I have a few RF power points and a couple of X10 light fittings. In the past, searches indicated it would not do what I wanted with Alexa. Yesterday I spent a lot of time researching and it now seems it should work with my power points and possibly even X10. For the price I'm going to give it a try. Will report back on how it goes.

  • Received my one of these today. For what it's worth I left a message asking for the newer model and that's what I received.

  • I cant get this POS to do anything? TV is like 2.5m away within line of sight but still won't control it… Let alone the air con or sound bar. Don't know if it's faulty or just a terrible product.

    • I think the IR blaster is in the middle of the unit, try facing the 'top' triangle at he tv, if that works just wall mount it

  • Got mine today, already have it installed in the ceiling, and its controlling my TV, air con and even garage door! Had to kinda trick it to get the garage door to work, but its working nether the less

    • Does your garage door use rolling codes? If it does, how did you get this to work with it?

  • I said I would report back once I had set mine up. I have 3 power points and 2 ceiling X10 lights, all controlled by RF. They were cheap but work well except I haven't been able to control them with Alexa.

The bad news: setting up was an absolute pain. It took me about 4 hours to get them all working with the Broadlink Pro, with multiple attempts for each device. For example, I'd get the ON button working but when I'd try to set up OFF I'd get failed, or check network, or no RF detected. Didn't matter how many times I went to Retry it would not work, so I would have to delete the device (and lose the setup ON button) close the app completely and start again.

The good news: Once I had them setup I linked with Alexa and this worked perfectly straight away. I was even able to use IFTTT to trigger all power points off (as we do each night). I'm thrilled, everything is now working flawlessly and was well worth the frustration of setting up the RF.
