  • I’m a bit out of the loop and have been trying to catch up.

Consensus seems that with XBox you really need the X but with the PS4 the Slim is sufficient, and PS4 seems more popular overall.

    Is this a fair assesment?

    • +3

Nothing wrong with an S. Of course the X is nicer. PS4 vs Xbox One is another debate but ultimately comes down preference.

    • +7

If it is for pure entertainment HUB, get the Xbox.

If it is for online gaming, get whatever your friends have, that simple.

      • +5

What happens if you have no friends?

    • I have both XBox one S and PS 4. I play more of PS 4 than Xbox One S. If it is only for a game, PS 4 is a better choice but if you want a game and 4k movie player, Xbox One S is the one for you.

    • +4

Xbox One S is a great affordable media player.

      -4K support
      -HECV support
      -4K Blu Ray player
      -Better overall for media

I have both PS4 and Xbox One S. I rarely game, but I have always been team PS4 for gaming. I bought the Xbox when I needed a blu-ray/media player for other room. PS4 sucks for media tbh. The provided media player can barely play anything I throw at it. I use Plex on both and it's better on the Xbox as it can overlay subtitles, which the PS4 cannot.

    • Xbone vs ps4, look at the exclusives. If that doesn't sway you one way, the ps4 is probably better as it's got a nicer controller, cleaner interface with less advertising, there are more games.

Ps4 has very affordable vr (psvr) which is a plus, and if your firmware is low enough, you can hack it and use homebrew/play your legal game backups if that's your thing.

I have both consoles and much prefer the ps4 this generation. I preferred your xbox360 last gen.

The difference between the ps4 slim and pro is less significant than the difference between the xbone vs xbone x, yes.

P.s. Unless you want 4k bluray, I'd just get a xiaomi mi box for cheap, quiet 4k media.

        ADVERTISING ?
        (does google search)
Daaaaaamn console users really get a raw deal
Bummer, I wanna play RDR2 sometime this century. :(

      • +2

the ps4 is probably better as it's got a nicer controller, cleaner interface with less advertising, there are more games.

this is extremely subjective, its pretty known knowledge that the Xbox is usually the better controller and the elite controller is a league ahead of any PS4 controller imo

        • Yeah, controller aside, everything else is true. Xbox UI is horrid.

          • +2

            @RocketSwitch:

            Xbox UI is horrid.

It was nice of Microsoft to reassign the Windows 8 UI team rather than firing them though ;)

        • this is extremely subjective

You're right about that one, my bad. I tried to separate the facts from opinions but that one slipped through.

    • i have the one x for multiplats while ps4 slim for sony exclusives. Best of both worlds imo

    • +1

Online: Get what your friends have.

      Single player: Playstation.

      Performance/graphics/emulation/mmos: PC.

      Back compat: Xbox One.

I personally use an Xbox one for family share with the family + Halo/Gears cross play with me on the PC.

I dont have a switch so dont have an opinion on it.

    • A lot of people have given good answers but I don't think they took into account the context of your question, so allow me to clarify for you.

The general consensus is PS4 was more popular at launch, therefore if you're going to online game, get what your friends have which is most likely a PS4.

The Xbox One X is regarded as the better 4K console, so if you want to game in 4K get a OneX but most people still want to online game with their friends as well, so they will have a PS4 slim (no point spending the extra money on 4K console there) then get a One X for their stunning games.

Then you have the X factor of exculsiuve titles and what ones youd rather play more, leaning you more towards one cosole.

That's my understanding and hopefully allows you to understand that it's not as simple as one console being better.

      • How do you know his friends have PS4 consoles? That's a little creepy! ;)

In all seriousness, Microsoft has sold around 40 million XB1 consoles. Chances are some of those owners have friends. Not everyone who plays online with mates has a PS4…

        [Disclaimer: I've got both consoles]

        • I'm not a PS4 fanboy trying to make him buy a PS4…

In response to him saying his perception is PS4 is more popular overall, I said it's mostly due to people getting what their friends have, so they can online game and the better exclusives if you're not into car games.

I literally said get what your friends have which is most likely a PS4, I didn't say it was for a fact

[Disclaimer: All my friends have PS4 and yet I do not, so it sucks for online gaming and PS4 has out sold XBO (fact)]

  • Nice one OP!

  • Cheap 4K player that also supports VLC great value at this price !!

  • Waiting for another X deal. Missed out on some bangers recently. This is good price for S though.

    • I've had them all so far apart from the PS4 pro. The X is the only one worth my money. I sold the rest.

      • Why is the X king?

        • Native 4K in RDR2 is a huge one, PS4 can only do 1440p I'm pretty sure.

          • +1

@Mooncakes: I'm playing it at the moment. It really is stunning at times.

          • @Mooncakes: @Jetship: For the same reason I went with the XboneX, and I've not regretted it at all! RDR2 looks beyond stunning.

          • @Mooncakes: Pro does 1920x2160p then upscaled
I have it, doesn't look too impressive

        • It can manage true 4k gaming at acceptable frame rates, plays 4k media and gamepass is amazing value. Plus play anywhere games I've bought on PC are playable for free on the one X. I haven't played the latest Sony exclusives, but it's a trade off I'm willing to make.

  • Thinking to buy, that controller sells at 79,plus a 4k player.so tempting.

  • Nice price!

  • One of the cheaper 4K Blu Ray players, plus I think you might still be able to get that $1 for a month of Game Pass deal. I was going to buy one of these but I ended up getting a great deal on an X last time around.

    • I think you can trial Game Pass for 14 days, then $1 for a month. Get some extra mileage out if it.

  • It's say $269

    • Not for me

      • +1

        $269 here as well.

It changed. So have to be fast with Amazon!

  • Price changed as I was activating Free Amazon Prime trial. Was thinking this deal was too good :/

    • Yep, stupid good with CR.

  • Thanks mate, ordered one for my son!

  • +4

    Damn I missed out!
    I knew I shouldn't have blinked

  • Dang I missed it again. haha.

  • +1

If they can do this price now then I'm expecting at least $199 on boxing day. 9 more sleeps.

  • -4

WOW so cheap. The thirst is not so real with this one. Microsoft needs to buy more AAA gaming studios to be competitive next gen.

    • They just bought half a dozen studios…

      • -3

Let see, MS bought Undead Labs, Playground Games, Ninja Theory, and Compulsion Games. Is any of these gaming studio looks like AAA gaming studio to you? Good luck coming up with the equivalent of God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn with those studios.

        • +1

Lmao did you really just come in here to spam that bs? you honestly think any of the Forza games aren't AAA? also Undead Labs, Ninja Theory and Compulsion Games were all small companies but now they've been bought buy the giant MS they will have MUCH more funding to pump out AAA games. We all know that the Xbox One X is the king console of all because it does more native 4K games than PS4 Pro and that matters, I'm expecting MS to hit it out of the park next gen. The only thing MS is down on is exclusive games but they can easily fix that.

          • -2

@Mooncakes: If I want pure eye candy then I play it on my PC with true HDR (unlike the fake HDR on the Xbone X)which make the Xbox One X looks like a few generations behind. Sales wise the the PS4 is still King selling like hotcake worldwide meanwhile Xbone couldn't even sell 1000 units in Japan last month. When it comes to exclusive games; God of War , Spiderman, Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn all cracked more than 10 millions unit sold through to customers. Xbone don't even have one single exclusive that sells that much this generation. Commercially and critically, the Xbone has lost this generation. Good luck facing The Last of Us 2 next year where it will break sales record and win all the awards just like God of War did earlier this month.

            • @Wolfofwallstreet: My God, you reek of fanboyism. It's so toxic it's making me sick.

              Fake HDR? Nice try.

Microsoft also acquired inXile and Obsidian (Fallout New Vegas, South Park Stick of Truth), so they now have 13 studios including The Initiative which has Devs from Crystal Dynamics and Insomniac.

You can expect Microsoft to be much stronger next gen. Or you can just keep being a fanboy and look immature. Oh, and I just recently got a PS4 during Black Friday, so good luck trying to paint me as a fanboy. That said, the X1X is still my main and favourite.

  • -2

game pass on xbox rules ps4 has titles micro gives a library pretty cheap - and the 1x kicks ass

    • +3

      What?

    • I guess this is how most Xbox fanboys talks in real life.

    • Dude gamepass on xbox is filled with crappy old 360 backwards compatible games that no one plays. Not even worth $10.

Don't plug it, you look like an idiot and lose any credibility straight away.

      • Says the guy who clearly doesn't have Gamepass. I'm guessing you're a PS4 only owner (I have both however).

PUBG, Ashen, Mutant Year Zero, Strange Brigade, Hellblade, Ori… all added/will be added this month. That's on top of Forza Horizon 4 and a tonne of other Xbox One games. Currently 6 months for $30. That's $5 a month…for all that.

So what did you say about it all being crappy 360 games? Gamepass is absolutely amazing value. I'm sure if PS4 had a similar service, you'd be praising it. Oh wait, there's PS Now..which is much better than Gamepass right?

  • That's a great price - $186 for 1TB Xbox One S "normal" after cashback.

As good as the $179 Xbox One S deal was, the Minecraft controller (not so much the console) is not a hit for me. A skin fixed up a bit - but the buttons are still annoying.

  • Wow these sold like hot cakes. Out of stock in 3 hours hahah

    • +1

Yeah, because it was an excellent deal!
I have the Xbox One 1TB OG and never use it, but I was still tempted lol.

  • I wonder if it was a pricing error. Or were they matching a price from somewhere else.

  • the price it is still at now $269 with cashback is still pretty decent.
