wow a lot cheaper but Harvey Norman $168

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1255509370672/psp--bl…

Japan really needs more money back.

    • You get accessory pack at JB so ends up around the same.

And HN ends tomorrow. "Offer ends 10/04/11 or until sold, whichever occurs first. See in-store for more deta"

    • great price

    • where can i get info on HN specials? I couldn't find an online catalogue or something like that… how did you know HN had this psp for $168?

  • seems like a good deal!

  • -2

    HN cheaper therefore Neg invoked.

HN deal ends tomorrow. Jb hifi deal ends 19th and has an accessory pack. Depends if you can make it to the store tomorrow really but they end up about the same.

      two things with harvey norman

1: they are slow to restock a shelf once its sold and it maybe out the back
2:they have no idea about the special deal, or thier franchise isnt running it

  • Can the PSP 3000 be hacked?

    • +2

Hit up pspcustomfirmware.com (yeah.. pretty obvious name right?) and have a look around. Some of the descriptions confuse me (read: it's all confusing) but there's probably info hidden in there somewhere ;)

      • Thanks.

It looks like a 3000 is partially hackable - the older the firmware the better.

        • +1

Yea, I know it can be temporarily hacked using chickHen, but you'd have to do it everytime you turn it off.

        • That's not to hard, remember PSP goes on Standby and lasts months without a recharge.

Sony should revolutionize the industry and allow homebrew apps by default.

        • Yep, so most people just put it to standby when they want to turn it off. Strangely though, in terms of battery drainage, the standby mode is pretty much the same as having the PSP off, at least for my PSP (like 2% a day).

PSP 2000 is the best model. I was fortunate enough to score a brand new TA-085V1 (very first PSP 2000 model) on ebay a couple years back for just under $200. The seller somehow had a whole bunch of them.

    • All the PSPs can be hacked to run all emulators and homebrew made for the PSP aswell as ISO backups.
Just don't update your firmware because they always bring out new updates with everything patched.

  • Not 3002 but 3000 I think so.

I was going to get EB Games to price match this which they would do, but the lady explained the reason the console is so cheap is that the next version, which doesn't use discs at all, is coming out before Xmas.

Also the new games won't work on the old console, a bit like the Dsi 3ds games won't work on older Dsi's

For info on the new console see http://www.pcworld.com/article/217919-2/sony_psp_next_genera…

    • I'm sure others realise this, but you still might be attracted to the low price and low cost of games as compared to the new one.

    • +1

Although a bit OT, you do realise that the 3DS is a new generation console? It's not the same as the DS/DS Lite/DSi/DSi XL, but it is backwards compatible with them.

    • Well PSPGO which doesn't use the UMDs at all has been out ages now. The great thing about it is that it brought down the price of UMDs. We pick up 4 or 5 preowned games a month for under $5 a pop. We've spent under $500 and have over 100 games. For somebody younger, or someone who isn't obsessed with having all their consoles completely up to date, a 2000/3000 is fabulous.

      • just how many games do you play

100 is a bit excessive given there are no 3 for 1 trade ins with the PSP. I game quite a bit on the PC but I still don't have/played 100 games(unless you count all my games which I haven't played on Steam)

        • +2

Neither of us really play at all, haha. Maybe a few hours a week at most. We just like having an extensive collection. :P

        • +3

I spend more time buying games than actually playing them..

        • Yup, me too. By a long shot.

        • +1

have never touched my psp since last year

      • We've spent under $500 and have over 100 games.

        2 psp's in our household

spent $0 on games ;), have a collection of over 1000

        • PSP 2000 or 3000 with CFW FTW
although I find my type of games hard to find given I hate anime games. No offence to Full Metal Alchemist though!

  • The version from HN is PSP3002. Got mine last night from Nunawarding HN and the sales offered me a PSP case for extra $5.

  • They had pink ones with hannah chick game going for $150 a year ago, i dont get these prices.

  • Target have the red Toy Story pack for $199, comes with Toy Story game and voucher for Toy Story movie from PSN.

  • just an update for everyone since people has been voicing different things, but ive been in the PSP scene for a bit and pretty much ALL psps can be hacked, as long as you dont update to the latest firmware. Hence all these old stock psps will have old firmwares (probably 6.20, highly unlikely but possibly 6.35, but everything up to 6.37 can be hacked)

    • I'm running stock official firmware 6.35 with signed HEN exploits.
      works 100% no problems.

if you're on 6.20 then you have the option to run custom firmware as well.

      • Guys can you point us to a site with an easy to understand tutorial?

Also can you play the games online with the exploits, or only offline?

        • +1

I've written up a blog post for running the exploits on PSP (because I prefer to run standard firmware which can be upgraded at any time without any problems).

I don't play online because my PSP doesn't support WPA2 wireless encryption and I'm too lazy to change my router settings every time I wanna do that.

I'd tell u to PM me but I don't have a choice here lol

          Sorry for the blogspam.

  • You can downgrade from 6.35 to 6.20 and use 6.20Tn-D its a permanent CFW so when you reboot you don't have to jailbreak again. Don't forget to install AudioBoost to boost your psp sound!

    • 6.37 anyone?
My brother thought it would be cool to get "unlimited music by qurocity"

      • There's 6.37 ME (CFW) from Neur0n but it requires an old PSP that can be flashed with the pandora battery.

  • Hey dudes, not sure if everyone is aware but the PSP2 codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable) is coming: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_Generation_Portable. The original PSP technology is quite old - circa 2005 I believe, and definitely at the late maturity (perhaps even decline phase given graphical improvements in smartphones etc… ) of its product cycle. I've always wanted a PSP but kept putting it off to wait for a new version. Rumour has it that day is sometime in 2012, but no doubt will be delayed due to the crisis in Japan. Nonetheless $188.00 is a pretty good price, and cheapest for this unit by far (well unless you decide to buy it from the streets of HK or something). So a positive for the OP!

  • Saw this post, and went on ebay to look for a psp 2000, got a hackable one for $155 including postage. Also comes with 7 games and a case :D (Supposely no scratches and hardly used)

  • Guys,

Does anybody know where i can find the Little Big Planet PSP bundle? I want that blue coloured PSP. :D

    • I reckon the harry potter bundle gives you the blue one as well

  • Guys I got one and it is running system software 5.02….

    • hackable CFW..woohoo lucky mofo!

      • I know where I can get another one exactly the same.

So if I am on 5.02 should I install 6.35 and then hack it or what?

  • I think 6.35 is not hackable or CFW is not very good

    CFW all updates
