        • What's defined an "enquiry"?

        • +3

Oh that’s quite a lot. Thank you for replying, this can serve as a guide as too how many enquires is required before a rejection.

      • +1

8(2 duplicates, to be fixed, but yeah, 8) in 6 months.

  • +3

I keep getting application error, so I can't actually apply.

    • Same….

      • Same here

        • Got around this error by letting them to allocate the credit limit instead of choosing my own.

          • @rvsure: I don't want them to allocate a $20k limit or something. No thank you, I never want to give them this much power.

            • @jaygee: As soon as you get the card you can reduce the limit to 15k via the online banking.

    • anyone manage to get around this with a choice of credit limit?

      • +1

Yep, worked fine for me, had to try like 3 times. Was showing errors.

  • Anyone know what 80k qantas points is worth?

    • +2

Around $800-$880 if you sell them. But can be worth more if you use it for something like round the world flights.

    • It's worth whatever you think you'll get the best value out of

  • hmm should i go for the 80000 qantas point or the 50 000 krisflyer…?

    • Depends

  • What to buy and refund in 2 months $4000?

    • +1

What about Business class flights somewhere? Book em for June / July then cancel / refund after you get your points paid out?

      • Can anyone confirm if this would actually even work?

  • +3

Sorry could you explain the 179 fee in the title?

  • +2

Can someone please provide any advice on what I can do..? I applied for this and the Westpac card and have been declined for both, with the reason having been that I have not been a Sole Trader for more than 18 months… (I am an IT contractor, earn 150k+ and have a contract with no end date..)
Previously while in Full Time employment, I had the ANZ and AMEX Platinum cards with no issues… So frustrating..

    • +1

      Stupidity of their criteria.

Someone earning 75k a year in a full time job is more stable than a contractor earning double, despite person in full time job able to be made redundant any time. A person contracting clearly has a high skill, yet they deem you useless.

  • got rejected I assume as a payg contract worker and not full time, although would earn double a fulltime worker in the same job.

I have this from last deal.

Approved me. Then put my card on hold for an audit within 3 days.

Didn't send the card to me, had to go in branch.

Got approved again, 8 days later. After 6 phones calls.

Seriously, never again with this bank!

80,000 points worth it? Probably, but gee, they do not make it easy.

I applied on Sunday 16th Dec, sent further info Monday 17th and got a call on 20th Thursday to pick up my card. I picked up my card today :)

can you switch to the QFF program after sign up and still get the bonus QFF points?

  • So am I reading this correctly? 80k QFF will attract a $179 annual fee in the first year.

    • Yes it seems so but it is very vague

  • So, I am doing an application right now…

On Page 1 of the form, there is the option to choose from Amplify Reward OR Qantas. If you select Qantas, you enter your QFF number. But when you get to the end of the whole application, it says that the promo is for the "Affiliate AmpSig AmpRewards 100k FYFW" assuming you clicked on the OP's link.

I think the form is forcing you to sign up for the Amplify 100K points with promo of zero annual fee. The Qantas choice on Page 1 appears to do nothing. If you go back to Page 1 of the form, your QFF member number data is no longer there, and the option defaults back to Amplify Rewards.

Otherwise, the Qantas promotion is, as the OP points out, one that will cost you $179 (instead of $279). The promo is found here :

    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-f…

I just rang them, and they said that is strange that it won't change the status to "Qantas Rewards" but they can change it for you manually BEFORE you submit the other paperwork. I don't know if this means that they will simply change the rewards scheme from Amplify to Qantas for you, and retain the $0 annual fee, or if they switch you to the $179 product.

  • Will you get the points if you opened a Westpac Altitude Black cards recently? seems St George is owned by Westpac?

    • “Existing customers who currently hold a Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.”

Looks like Westpac customers are fine

  • +2

Hmm, I applied twice and got declined both times … that's new! They ask some weird questions and I wonder if my answers made it auto-reject. Like, what's the credit limit on your current mortgage … wtf?

  • Had this card for a month and got the 100,000 amplify points.

Anyone know if they do any velocity points transfer promos. ANZ do them all the time but cannot find anywhere any westpac affiliated card does it?

  • +1

I got rejected for this card, instantly.
Called up, they couldn't offer any more information as to why, said if I was a St George or Bank of Melbourne customer I may have been successful.

I'm surprised, have had over a dozen credit cards over the past 20 years and never been rejected before, maybe that is part of the problem (too many cards, a history of always paying off my balance, and never incurring interest)?

Got to neg this on account of if being less transparent than the myriad of other similar applications I've done over the years.

    • +1

You sound exactly like me. I'm doing the yearly credit card churn (new card visa/mastercard every year for QFF points, but I always hold my amex qantas ultimate card for highest earn rate and yearly travel credit). I always overpay my credit cards every month, and have as such never paid a cent of interest. I think this can work against you as credit card companies are losing money for people like us (who are a very small minority).

    • Got rejected too. But we got told that it's because of the Royal Commission and that all banks have tightened lending ratios. Previously we could apply for another card whilst still holding the old one (waiting to cancel it after balance is paid off) but now it seems that we can only hold 1x card at a time because the new ratio requirements (income vs spend/debts) have increased. St George told us that we could get this card if we did a balance transfer, which would work-around this (i.e. we wouldn't be holding 2x cards at any point in time).

Had a similar issue with our current ANZ card too that we got a few months ago. Same $15K limit and plenty of room to move with income. We had to ring back and they modified downwards some of the expenses to qualify. This has never been a problem before. In fact we had 3 or 4 cards going at the same time not too long ago.

      • Got rejected too :(

  • These guys are a pain to deal with.

How does one get the qantas lounge passes? Just tried to call but there was a long wait so figured I’d ask you helpful lot first!

  • Signed up for Qantas but application was for Amplify rewards instead - credit application line did not know which was which kept asking me to refer to website
Sent in all paperwork and initially approved - was told card will come in the post
Then had a "review" by senior card team about details provided - pretty much repeated what I had said on my application
No word for a week and suddenly card application declined
    What a useless exercise

  • I wanted to know how does one's credit rating behaves if we jump from card to card? I have ANZ Black card at the moment and looking to jump.

    • +1

If you don't miss payments, a few different cards each year won't make a difference.

If you do want to apply for a home loan, it might be worth not churning cards for 6 months though.

      • Thanks. No plans for a home loan yet. But maybe after 2-3 years.

        • Every time I apply for a new card, my credit rating takes a small hit - but it recovers a few weeks later.

          • @Powls: Where do we see our ratings?

            • @zeoko: (Not related / associated FYI) But you can check your credit rating at sites like CreditSimple.

              • @Powls: Thanks. Much appreciated.

        • Every time I apply for a new card, my credit rating takes a small hit - but it recovers a few weeks later. I wouldnt worry (might be worth only having one black card at a time though).

  • Has anyone actually got his/her annual fee wavied for the Qantas version? The whole T&C looks pretty ambiguous to me.

    • Me but I applied at the start of December when the previous deal was on.

      • Good to know mate. Did you simply go via the OP link and switch to Qantas reward program inside the application?

  • Can you get this whilst having a Westpac card?

    • +1

Yep! Just not bank of Melbourne or bankSA

  • Has someone found a way to order a card for additional cardholder? Went through all the menus and search as well, couldnt find it.

    • The additional card holder needs to fill out a form and be verified by st George. You can’t do it online.

  • Does anyone know if it is it possible to sell Priority Pass somehow?

  • Got a similar deal almost 12 months ago - just called to try and get a reduction on the annual fee (someone on ozb said they got it down to $139 from $279). They said no - will transfer all the points over to Krisflyer and call to cancel next week. May as well reapply in 12mths. Perhaps when I call to actually cancel they'll come to the party.

    • Do you know if the birthday bonus is on all points earned in the previous 12 months i.e includeing the bonus points earned or just on regular points?

      • Regular points

  • -1

    Anyone got the cashback yet?

  • How long has everyone waited till their bonus points have come through?
I paid off last statement balance but no bonus points as of yet

    • I hit the min spend on 19th December; still no bonus points.
The t&cs say it may take up to 3 months though

      • +1

My bonus points just came in. Exactly 1 month after hitting the 4k spend (24/12, I paid the balance off about a week or so after, points arrived today)

        Happy days!

        • Thanks for the update - been checking daily and mine have just come through today too

  • I applied for the card (amplify rewards), had annoying request to provide provide more payslips ext. Received the card today but on the offer it doesn't say anything about a waived annual fee..?

    • +1

The paperwork i received in mail said that i have to pay 279. Called them and they confirmed that 1st years fee is waived.
      Confusing indeed

      • Cool, yea its like that with other cc's ive applied for.

  • What happens if you receive a refund after receiving the bonus amplify points?

  • Can't find the expiry for the application?

  • Does high credit card limit really impact future loans although credit card gets fully paid every month?

    • +1

      Yes. Reduces your borrowing capacity.
But paying off each is good too as it builds your credit file history

      • ooh wow :( ok

  • I got approved instantly… Dont really earn much money myself…

  • Word of warning - I was charged the full annual card fee for one month into getting the card. Check your statements. I called to dispute and they waived it.

  • Anyone got the birthday points yet? Does anyone know if it is calculated on total points earned or EXCLUDES bonus points? @blonky

    • +1

Yes I got my birthday points, no doesn’t include bonus points (also mentions this in the t&cs)

      • Thanks Blonky. Any idea if paying rates/ land tax etc are disqualified?

    • Birthday points?

      • You get 10% bonus points on your birthday. Calculated on the points earned in the previous 12 months. Excludes bonus 100k that you receive.

  • On the paperwork I received, it says nothing about the bonus points, minimum spend plus it says I have to pay the annual fee?? What even…

  • I think the offer has changed! it says Pay a reduced annual card fee of $179 in the first year ($279 usually). Can someone confirm?

    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/affiliate/…

    • Yep this deal has ended; there was another deal posted a week ago so looks like it comes up pretty often

    • Yep I've screenshotted everything during my application in case they pull a dodgy
