[Android, iOS] $0 - Moasure - The Smart Tape Measure (Was $9.99) @ Google Play/iTunes

2720

This very useful app has never been posted on Ozbargain. No ads or IAP.

iOS link.

Convenient and easy to use, Moasure is a 300m/1000ft tape measure, ruler, protractor and a goniometer (angle measurer) - all in one simple app.

Simply move your phone from one point to another point and Moasure displays the distance or height difference between the two points, or the angle between them.

There’s no tape, no string, no laser beam or camera images. Instead Moasure uses the same technology found in space rocket guidance systems – the phone’s accelerometers and gyroscopes – to calculate precisely how far you have moved your phone. Moasure really is rocket science!

Please read the reviews before installing

    • +3

Can you give us a summary please?

    • +5

No dont read the reviews. They are mostly good apart from a few which say its a bit fiddly, and all of which have a response from the company thanking for the feedback and asking to contact them for further support. For a free app you should just try it.

Why does the app need to know my location?

    • +1

      Measures via satellite :)

      • +3

So you haven't used it then?

"Moasure uses the motion sensors - accelerometers and gyros - in your phone to measure. It does not use GPS, the camera or the internet to measure."

    • +1

“Measurements are affected by the precise location at which they are taken. Gravity, measured by the accelerometers within Moasure, alters with altitude and latitude (you weigh about 0.5% more at the poles than on the equator) . But rest assured, we promise Moasure will never share your location data.”

      • we promise Moasure will never share your location data

… because Google will share it anyway after you turn location sharing off.

Yet another "rogue engineer" making privacy "snafus" that effects every single user so Google violates their privacy while the user believes they have location tracking turned off.

        • +1

Can you please give one example where Google has shared any data with any third party?

            • @leetguy101: Did you read the article? Google didn't choose to share any data, customers did. People deliberately gave specific third parties access to read their emails - on a case by case basis, you have to give each company access individually - and then those companies read those emails. There's nothing mysterious, concealed or underhanded about it.

Once you give a third party access to those emails, obviously your relationship is with that company and that company's privacy policy applies. How could Google know what other companies do with the data you have given them? Google can vet those companies to make sure they are above board - which they do - but that's about it.

The whole premise of the article is strange. If you downloaded a program by a third party on your computer to read emails in your Outlook inbox, I don't see how Microsoft would be responsible for what that company did with your data.

Exodus Privacy reports Moasure has 5 trackers, 4 of which are Farcebook. Coarse and fine location access.

    • Yeah I find it funny that the first prompt I get from the app is to allow it to use my location anytime even when app is minimsed and the next page they are claiming they never use GPS for measurements… 🤔
Things that make you go hmmmm 🤔🤔🤔

      • Location is not just determined by GPS but can also be found by trilateration from mobile towers and WiFi networks you're connected to.

It's entirely possible to get your location not using GPS, using it just increases accuracy.

    • in case you are measuring out a nuclear weapon

Just tried it.. Works excellent (I compared it with my tape measure). Make sure you get the phone orientation right when measuring (landscape). It includes the dimensions of the phone itself into the equation and "should" automatically detect it etc. Otherwise add it in along with the case dimensions to be better accuracy.

Has tutorials and training videos within to give you best accuracy.

  • +3

Jesus can't believe it's so precise! Much better than I expected! Just got one!

    • +1

Yep, I thought it was just another gimmick, but I have to admit, I am impressed and as an app, it is definitely a keeper. Good job.

  • +2

    "goniometer"?

    Gonads per metre?

    • +1

      Just 2 preferably.

  • +2

    What sorcery is this?
I just installed, didn't have a tape measure handy but remembered I had some measurements in a spreadsheet on my phone. Took the measurements with this app - 160 & 163cm and then checked the spreadsheet - 1600 & 1627mm, freaky!

WOW, my Huawei is not suitable for download, do i need to upgrade a 12 month old phone?

    • What model is it? Maybe it doesn't have the required sensors.

      • Y7

        • +3

Yeah you don't have a gyro, hall or barometer.

    • Merry Christmas

  • Ruler app needed right now. Thanks OP.

This is by far the best deal I’ve come across in the last 5 minutes.

This isnt compatible with Ozbargin, I am getting "not compatible" message on Play store as it says works on "premium Android smartphones".

I need the cheap chinease import knock-off version!

    • +2

      This isnt compatible with Ozbargin

      That's correct, you're on OzBargain.

    • Same! Bizzare that it won't work on my phone running Oreo Android.

  • +4

If you rate it, you will "unlock" mm measurements.

    • Thanks that's what I required

  • Not compatible with my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

  • +1

Thanks OP. Interesting and potentially useful app.
Not compatible with Samsung tab S, ok with Moto g5+.

    • +1

Strange, I'm getting not compatible with a Moto g5s +

The s must have ruined it…

  • I grabbed the ios version and had to upgrade bluestacks to get my virtual android phone compatible. It technically wasn't an old phone. got it in the library now though, thanks

  • This is fantastic! Very accurate!

  • "Your device isn't compatible with this version"

  • +1

Note 4 isn't compatible with this version 😣😣

    • It works on my Redmi Note 4 International with Android 7.0 NRD90M and MIUI Global 10.1 | Stable, 10.1.1.0(NCFMIFI).

  • Why does it need access to photos, media, and files?

    • +1

To measure how popular you are.

  • -2

Ugly ass app. Should have followed Apple app design guidelines.

  • +1

If you only want linear measurements, then the measure app on iOS already does this

  • S8+ cant use… so sad

  • Not compatible :'(

  • SSL Certificate expired May 2018, 226 days ago. Any concerns here from our expert panel?
    iPhone with Safari being used.

  • Not compatible with Moto G3-TE :(
(probably because it's old AF but I wonder what specifically?)

    • Incompatible with my Axon 7 :(

Installed on my iPod lol -_-

  • -1

No longer free on Android, still free on IOS

    • ?? I just installed for free on my Android from Google Play Store

Not sure if any different, but because I'm OzB'ing on my laptop, I didn't use link above, but rather searched for "Moasure" in my phone's PlayStore App.

  • Thanks.
