Ends Boxing Day (inclusive) according to the email I got.

    • Would you be willing to upload a PDF of that email? I sorely need it for my price protection claim. I would be forever grateful!

      • I still have the email, if you PM me your email address I will just forward the email to you if you want.

        • I would greatly appreciate that! Done

  • Hmm…stick with Pixel 2 XL (still shrink wrapped), or return it, pay $200 more and get Pixel 3?

Btw OP, deal ends 1st of January/while stocks last according to a FB post by JB.

      Cheers, added to description.

      • Sorry, I was wrong. JB's post about ending January 1st was general - the Pixel 3 deals are Boxing Day only - they made a follow up post regarding specifically this phone. aja12 is right.

I'd say the biggest deciding factors would be:

      • End of official support period. You'll get an extra year with the Pixel 3.
      • Device size. Pixel 3 is fairly compact (145.6 x 68.2 x 7.9mm), while the Pixel 2 XL is exactly what it says on the tin (157.9 x 76.7 x 7.9mm).

2 XL has 1440p, but super high resolution on a phone sized device isn't as big of a deal as most make it out to be.

SD835 vs 45 is also a fairly minor difference. They'll both be more than competent for most tasks.

I'd say 2 XL if you don't care about the excessively large size of modern smartphones (or if you're a big screen guy) and the 3 if you are willing to pay extra for a more compact package.

    • The 3 will get photo storage for longer for free in original size than the 2 if you hat bothers you.

For the small difference I think the 3 is worth it, but they're not the same devices.

      • Why longer storage? I thought all pixels had unlimited storage.

        • I think it's only for two years. Not too sure on the finer print though.

    • The screen on my pixel 2 xl is not worth the price. I'd swap if I was you.

  • Wonder if google will have a boxing day sale with the same price. Hopefully with the stand included too.

    • They are, I just got an email.

Would absolutely buy this through the Google store if I had to choose. There returns service is top notch. I haven't paid full price for a new phone since the 6P since when I had a problem (right at the end of the two years of own both the 6P and Pixel) I call them up and they gave me a new phone (A pixel when I had the 6P problem) or a complete refund (they refunded me the Day 1 price I paid for the 6P when my Pixel broke). Now on a Pixel 2 and really happy with that phone.

Sources? I’m wondering when it’s the best time to bite

      • Probably when the S10 is announced/released.

      • US Launch October 8 for $1499

US Black Friday = Buy 1 pixel phone get the second half price

AU December 25 below $1000 for the 64gb version

        enough proof?

February will be the next drop when the going gets tough for retailers..

        • That’s a fair observation. I guess I’m holding out then! Thank you! And yeah it’s a pretty strong drop since then..

    • Like all phones

      • except soooo fast…

  • Just what i've been waiting for, thanks!

  • Being an early adopter doesn't pay off.

    • +1

Early adopter means you get to use it early. More often than not you will pay for the privilege. Surprised?

      • Paying a premium to be a user test bed. Not worth it.

      Price protection FTW!

  • So many posts yet no obligatory "notch" post.

So, my Brother in law just bought this phone a couple of days ago from JB (I know, I know but his old phone broke and he didn't want to wait).

I've heard of others getting the difference back when a sale comes on shortly after (like this). What's the process and is it likely to be approved?

    • +1

I believe it's as simple as your brother in law taking his receipt in, with his method of payment (so.. his credit card etc), and making mention of the paid price and advertised price at the counter. From memory if it's within 30 days it's okay?

      • Are you sure jb hifi has a policy like that? I just bought a pixel 3 2 days ago :(

        • +1

Call your local store and find out. They'll be quite accommodating I'd think!

        • Not exactly a policy or written rule anywhere, but most managers would be willing to honour the price change for several weeks after the original purchase date

          • @lemonliam: I guess they do that because it's easier than having somebody return the original item and then buy it again at the discounted price?

            • @spaceflight: I suppose so, often makes people happy when they know they can do that though

  • So with the 64GB at $999, are they likely to offer the $500 off on a new plan for $1000 phones? If so that's enough to push it over the line for me.

  • Not sure if everyone realises (I didn't), but you don't need to wait for the stores to open to grab one of these on sale… you can just click and collect, so you can avoid the boxing day morning sales rush.

HN and Google store have done the same! Good for those that have the amex cashback for HN :)

  • Wouldn't budge on ticket price. Even with purchasing other items if anyone was curious.

    • It is the best price you can get on the phone, why would they go cheaper when they know you can't get it cheaper anywhere else?

  • Trying to buy this online using JB HI-FI Gift cards. It accepts 5 cards but wont allow me to add any more. Assuming there is a 5 gift card limit when using online. Does the same limit exist in store? Pity as I was hoping to buy the Pixel using gift cards whilst its $200 cheaper..

I'd like to claim the difference back from my credit card insurance via price protection but I need a copy of the offer in a physical catalogue and it doesn't look like JB has it published according to their online catalogue. Any ideas?

    • I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I wonder if anybody here could upload a PDF copy of the email advertisement? My CC provider would accept that…

    • A promotional rate is not acceptable anyway

  • I'm really tempted but the pixel 2 xl is just so good…
