  • I have a feeling that eBay is going to find out and this deal thing is going to be shut down quite soon.. so make the most out of it while you can xd

  • Does this work on a Macbook?

    • Nope, officeworks removed their MacBooks from their eBay store.. otherwise this would have been an absolute steal

      • No, the hard drive is it compatible with Mac's?

        • Oh yeah it is. Just need to format the drive properly before using it.

        • I don't see why not. You'll need either a USB-A to USB-C dongle like this or a micro-USB-B to USB-C cable if they are available. As for file system, these used to come formatted in NTFS; you might need to format it to exFAT or HFS to use it on a Mac.

          P.S.: I don't use a Mac

@borealis: nonono don't get that 'adapter' dongle. - bad quality and will loosen very easily. just get a proper usb c cable for the HD.

If you double the price, then it will instantly become MacBook compatible.

    Good deal buddy..

To Everyone : If you are able to score 15% off GC cards from here then use 15% GC + 5% P5OFF (Approx $63.79) at eBay AU to gain max benefit or For others who are unlucky with GC cards or issue with Paypal then this 15% off code is the best option to gain max benefit

  • Do NOT buy Seagate!! I work for Tabcorp and would only recommend WD if you're in the market for something cheaper that's great in the long run! I used to have a couple of Seagate hard drives and they went out after a couple of months usage…. I use commercial ones now (due to work) but go WD or something more top end if you're in the market for a hard drive.

@ArnieD11 What is a commercial hard drive?

Last year I had 3 Seagates from the same batch all die within a few months of each other. But they had been in service 24x7 for eight years so had reached EOL and showed very good consistency in their predictable life. A fourth from that batch is still in service, but on a different machine and had much less actual use. Around the mid 2000's I had one 20GB fail on first power up which was a power component issue, but apart from that have 30 odd Seagate drives that still all work. In that time I have one other drive that died early and it was a WD. External drive power supply failure also used to be common, but this was not a hard drive issue and generally a third party product killed by heat.

In the early 2000's the business I worked at had continual returns of WD 40GB drives. This turned out to be an issue admitted by WD and the drives were discontinued. None of the many Seagates sold over years had ever failed.

So by your analysis method no one should ever buy a Western Digital. But it doesn't work like that.

      • They're essentially hdd's that Tabcorp (and bigger companies alike) get specially made for our machines (slot machines etc.) Pretty much just HDD's that run 24/7 but we're getting ssd's now as that seems to be where this technology is headed in terms of durability.

And in terms of what you mentioned, that's just been my experience with Seagate… never had problems with WD. I guess you're right in saying it doesn't work like that… guess it just depends.

May I ask what model Seagate you were using at the time? I have a setup with some older 1tb drives from WD that I've had working fine for years after my Seagate one's all died.
